Chapter 9 - Chapter 9: Wanda and Quicksilver

As Han Yu pondered, he suddenly felt a gaze fixed upon him. Turning his head, he found Kingpin staring at him intently.

Recalling Kingpin's words, Han Yu didn't intend to argue. Instead, he said straightforwardly, "I'm very interested in that woman among them. Does Mr. Kingpin intend to compete with me?"

Observing Han Yu's calm smile, which seemed to deepen with each passing moment, Kingpin felt more convinced that this young man was no ordinary person.

Kingpin had reviewed the surveillance footage from the intersection where Han Yu had saved his son. Han Yu had instantaneously rushed from over a hundred meters away to snatch the boy off the crosswalk at a traffic light, appearing as a mere gust of wind to ordinary eyes.

"What's this guy's background? He must be a powerful metahuman too!"

After obtaining the information from Kingpin, Han Yu bid him farewell and set out to find the siblings, Quicksilver and Scarlet Witch, based on the address provided.

As night fell, beneath a bustling bridge, a man and a woman sat on a dilapidated sofa discarded at the bridge's base.

Despite the dirtiness of her clothes, the woman's beauty was undeniable. Her over-the-knee socks and short skirt accentuated her shapely legs, making her identity as Scarlet Witch, Wanda, unmistakable.

Beside Wanda, a silver-haired man handed her a piece of bread, saying, "Wanda, eat something."

It was her brother, Quicksilver, Pietro.

"How long must we keep doing this?" Wanda glanced at the moldy bread Quicksilver offered, burying her head in her knees, looking dispirited.

The past few days of fleeing had left her physically and mentally exhausted, unable to eat properly, starving one meal after another.

Quicksilver sighed; he had no better solution. Although their previous life hadn't been luxurious, they hadn't had to worry about food and shelter.

Now, with the Avengers having destroyed their "home," they were left to wander, lest they be captured and imprisoned again.

"Eat a little, at least. I'll try to find a job in a few days. With a steady income, we can live comfortably again," Quicksilver reassured her.

Wanda sighed softly, reaching for the bread when her peripheral vision caught sight of several approaching figures.

Looking up, she saw three ragged men, apparently from the nearby slums.

Quicksilver had also noticed them, sensing danger as they headed straight for them. He pulled Wanda to leave, but as they stood up, two more ragged men approached from the front, clearly part of the same group.

"Don't rush off. We've been eyeing you for days. This is our territory. Sleeping comfortably, were you?" said a black man with a brown turban among the trio.

Quicksilver didn't want trouble and said, "Sorry, we didn't know this was your turf. We'll leave now."

But as Quicksilver and Wanda tried to move, the other four men blocked their way, encircling them.

"Did I say you could leave?" The turbaned black man approached, scrutinizing Quicksilver and Wanda before his gaze settled on Wanda.

Seeing such a beautiful woman here, a flash of amazement crossed the turbaned man's eyes, and he said, "After sleeping here for so many days, it's time to pay up, don't you think?"

Quicksilver stepped in front of Wanda, sensing the man's lecherous gaze. As a man, he knew exactly what the other was thinking.

And being near the slums, the police wouldn't interfere unless it was something serious.

But Wanda was his sister, and he would never hand her over for his own safety.

"Should I use my abilities?" Quicksilver clenched his fists. He had used his powers sparingly, only stealing a takeout a few days ago, which had already attracted the attention of unknown pursuers.

"He didn't want to use it anymore, fearing that he might attract unwanted attention and endanger Wanda's safety.

Seeing Quicksilver's silence, the hooded black man lost patience and strode forward, reaching out to grab Wanda.

A flash of red light emanated from Wanda's hand, but Quicksilver quickly pressed it down, turning to look at him. Quicksilver shook his head slightly, signaling her not to use her superpowers.

Before the offending hand could even touch Wanda, a faint rustling of wind echoed, followed by a piercing scream from the hooded man.

A bloody, half-inch-long hole had appeared in the center of his outstretched palm.

'Leave now, and you might still make it,' came a magnetic, light chuckle from behind them. Turning around, they saw a young man carrying a bag of groceries standing there, smiling as he tossed pebbles in his hand.

'Against these kinds of people, why not use your abilities? Their words would hardly be believed by anyone anyway.'

It was Han Yu who had punctured the hooded man's palm with a pebble.

Possessing the Immortal Seal, his physical strength was also superhuman, allowing him to throw stones with the velocity of rifle shots.

'What are you standing there for? Attack! Kill him!' the hooded man cried out in pain, holding his wounded hand.

The others exchanged glances, hesitated for half a minute, then gritted their teeth and drew out spring knives from their pockets. With a battle cry to boost their morale, they charged towards Han Yu.

'Is that all you've got?' Han Yu chuckled, calmly rotating the pebbles in his hand as he watched the rushing figures with a serene expression.

The men, who had barely taken five steps, suddenly let out cries of agony and collapsed to the ground, clutching their knees in pain.

Wanda looked puzzled. 'What just happened?'

From her perspective, they had simply run and then suddenly fallen, without any warning.

Only Quicksilver's eyes flashed with surprise as he exclaimed, 'How fast!'

As the only speed-based superhuman on the scene, Quicksilver's own movement speed could reach the speed of sound. Yet, even with that speed, he had barely caught a glimpse of a blur when Han Yu moved.

Han Yu approached slowly, smiling. 'Are you all right?'

'We're fine... thank you,' Wanda replied gratefully."

Han Yu's appearance and gentle words were more than Wanda, a girl who had never even been in a relationship before, could handle. His eyes were crystal clear, devoid of the leering glances other men often cast at her. This innocence was somewhat disconcerting for Wanda, causing her to blush and turn away.

"And who might you be?" Quicksilver, more cautious, pulled Wanda behind him and regarded Han Yu warily.

Sensing Quicksilver's vigilance, Han Yu halted his approach and maintained a safe distance, smiling reassuringly. "Just a passing small grocery store owner."

Unsatisfied with merely leaving it at that, Quicksilver thanked Han Yu and started to lead Wanda away.

But just as they were about to step off, both of their stomachs growled simultaneously.

Han Yu chuckled. "If you don't mind, feel free to join me for dinner. No charge, just help me out for a few days in the store."

Quicksilver and Wanda blushed, their hunger finally overcoming their pride. Han Yu's offer was too tempting to refuse.

On the way, Han Yu pretended to ask for their names, though he already knew them. Through this brief conversation, he managed to ease Quicksilver's suspicions further.

Wanda, with her naturally bubbly personality, was much more receptive to Han Yu, especially coming from a developed entertainment-focused world like his. The scoundrels of the Marvel universe paled in comparison to those from his former life.

To put them at ease, Han Yu voluntarily disclosed his own supernatural abilities. Learning that they shared this bond, they began to feel less resistant towards him.

Upon returning to the grocery store, Han Yu quickly prepared two dishes: spicy diced chicken and mapo tofu. As soon as they were set on the table, the enticing aroma filled the room, making their mouths water.

"It's so spicy and numbing, but it goes so well with rice!" exclaimed Quicksilver, who had initially been the most cautious, now shoveling spoonfuls of chicken and rice into his mouth with relish.

"Glad you enjoy it. These are dishes from my hometown, not easily found elsewhere," Han Yu said, laughing as he ate alongside them. He hadn't had dinner yet and matched Quicksilver's ravenous pace.

Watching the two of them devour their meals, Wanda couldn't help but laugh, feeling a sense of relaxation she couldn't quite explain. Somehow, being in this small grocery store made her feel inexplicably at ease, almost like being home.
