Kofi pulled on his tie, adjusting it slowly. His eyes were on the ropes as he thought.
"Hey," he called out to the lady bound to the chair.
"Are you still able to hear me?"
The lady stared at the air in front of her, unresponsive. Her pupils were dilating in front of him.
Kofi moved towards her.
His hovering book followed him, the fountain pen floating alongside it.
Arlene barely registered his presence. And when he raised his hands to her shoulder and nudged her, her head simply tilted backwards in response.
The ropes around her weren't simply meant to cause physical distress. A Blessed could endure far more than ordinary humans could. It would take more than constraining ropes to leave her like this.
Then again, five days of mental torture probably hadn't helped.
The fountain pen moved.
From the side of the book, it floated towards the book's centre. Its tip was inches away from a blank line on a page.
It waited there.
