On the low table at the Old Secretary's home, there was a dish of cornmeal cakes, stewed potatoes, and a bowl of dried radish pickles.
The cave was warm in winter and cool in summer, and quite comfortable.
The Old Secretary smiled awkwardly, "There's not much good food in the village, please make do and have a bite..."
This meal didn't look luxurious at all, yet it was the best they could offer. In fact, most of the time they didn't eat vegetables at all, and the main food wasn't pure cornmeal cakes but mixed wild vegetable dumplings.
The meal was actually prepared when the Old Secretary went to pick up Lin Nianhe and the others, as they were still uncertain whether they could dig a well for themselves.
"Please don't say that, it's us who suddenly visited and troubled the villagers." Lin Nianhe said, picking up a cornmeal cake.
Others also picked up the cakes one after another, eating without any disdain.
