Title: The Unknown Woman of Faith
Bible Verse: Mark 5:25-34; Matthew 9:20-22
Mark 5:25-34
25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years.
26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse.
27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak,
28 because she thought, "If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed."
29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.
30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, "Who touched my clothes?"
31 "You see the people crowding against you," his disciples answered, "and yet you can ask, 'Who touched me?' "
32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it.
33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth.
34 He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."
Matthew 9:20-22
20 Just then a woman who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years came up behind him and touched the edge of his cloak.
21 She said to herself, "If I only touch his cloak, I will be healed."
22 Jesus turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed at that moment.
Introduction:
Believing that God exists is only the beginning
God will not settle for mere acknowledgement of His existence
He wants a personal dynamic relationship with you that will transform your life
Hebrews 11:6
6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
I. Jesus Turned To The Woman
(vv. Matthew 9:22)
22 Jesus turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed at that moment.
Faith will never go unnoticed nor be ignored by God
When a person places his faith in Jesus and His power, it touches Jesus and He infuses His power into that person
II. Jesus Saw The Woman
(vv. Mark 5:32; Matthew 9:22)
Mark 5: 32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it.
Matthew 9:22 Jesus turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed at that moment.
Jesus saw her desperation, her confession of hopelessness, her need, her faith, and His heart went out to her from depths of compassion
The Lord cares for all, no matter how rejected, cut off, or ostracized we are.
Sometimes we feel that our problems will keep us from God. but He sees us and He is always there for us
We should never allow our fears to keep us from approaching Him
III. Jesus Adopted The Woman
(vv. Mark 5:34; Matthew 9:22)
Mark 5:34 He said to her, "Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering."
Matthew 9:22 Jesus turned and saw her. "Take heart, daughter," he said, "your faith has healed you." And the woman was healed at that moment.
By the time Jesus finished speaking to her, she experience something more than physical healing
Jesus called her 'daughter' and sent on her way with a benediction of peace
We may not always feel as though we belong to God, but the Holy Spirit is our witness.
His inward presence reminds us of who we are and encourages us with God's love.
Romans 8:14-17
14 For those who are led by the Spirit of God are the children of God.
15 The Spirit you received does not make you slaves, so that you live in fear again; rather, the Spirit you received brought about your adoption to sonship.[a] And by him we cry, "Abba,[b] Father."
16 The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God's children.
17 Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory.
Conclusion:
