I hit the patrol line after lunch, and the whole damn field froze when I saw Leo standing on the other side all by himself.
My feet locked up immediately, and my shield buzzed in my palms while my chest went tight as hell.
Leo never rolled anywhere alone, and every wolf in my pack knew he always had a reason hiding behind his face.
“What the fuck are you doing here?” I fired at him.
He kept his hands behind his back, and he wore a calm face like he had come to shop for apples instead of cause trouble.
“I came about Lily,” he answered, and his voice stayed smooth like syrup. “The north has a duty here, and I need to examine her powers.”
I drew in one hard breath, and anger shot through me so fast I almost laughed.
“Hell, you really do love acting like you own the planet,” I shot back. “You do zero things for anyone else, and you sure as shit get to walk up here asking for my daughter like she is some royal project experiment.”
