Darkness.
Everywhere Shen Yelan looked, that was all she saw. She felt like she was standing inside a void where light had never existed. The sound of water dripping echoed through the space, but it seemed to come from everywhere.
She was barefoot and she could feel the surface beneath her feet. It was wet and smooth and felt slightly cool against her skin.
Where was she?
For a brief moment, she felt disoriented, caught off guard by finding herself in this strange dark space. But with her years of experience, she did not panic.
Knowing there was no use standing in one place, chose a direction at random and began walking. Her fingers played with the metallic ring she always had on her right hand's index finger.
