Chapter 239 Guild Insignia
Aleshia grabbed the papers and was directed to a corner table to fill out her information. After quickly reviewing the contents, she realized it was a fairly simple form. Determining not everyone in the adventuring business had received the same education she had, she filled in the relevant information on the guild card and left the optional sections blank.
As Aleshia approached the counter, she noticed Daniel and Linda engaged in what appeared to be a friendly chat. However, as she got closer, she realized their conversation was serious. She overheard Linda saying, "I'll go report this to the guildmaster. Thank you for bringing this matter to my attention." Just as Linda was about to leave, Aleshia stepped forward.
The atmosphere shifted immediately around Daniel and Linda, as if they were suddenly no longer discussing anything important. "You're back! Was everything okay? Nothing there that confused you?" Linda asked, adopting the demeanor of a concerned friend.
"Nope, not at all," Aleshia replied while handing her the completed form.
Linda received her form and walked to the back, inserting it into a crystal-like device that scanned the document. After the scan was complete, she pulled out a copper card and inserted it into the device. When the device chimed, Linda retrieved the imprinted plate and returned to the counter. She handed the copper card to Aleshia and said, "Here is your guild card. Your rank is True Copper. With the quests you completed earlier and Daniel's support, you were able to skip the lower copper rank."
Aleshia politely accepted the card and examined it, flipping it back and forth. The most noticeable feature was the insignia in the top right corner, which depicted a dragon's scales with motes of flame above it.
Curious, she asked, "What does this design represent?"
"The design looked cool, so the insignia looks that way," Linda replied, with a perfectly straight face, the most serious expression Aleshia had ever seen.
"Really?" Aleshia questioned, skeptical.
"No, that was just a joke," Linda said, breaking into a smile. "In reality, this guild was inspired by the strength of a dragon's scales, suggesting that the guild is as tough as those scales and that the heat of battle could never bring it down. Or something like that," she concluded, her voice tinged with warmth.
Aleshia nodded, "I have the quest monsters in my bag. Should I lay them out on the counter or store them in another room for convenience?"
"Oh, that. If privacy is a concern, we can move to another room for the transaction," Linda said, pausing briefly before continuing, "and it is. Please follow me." Linda left the reception booth and headed toward a room further inside the guild, with Aleshia following closely behind and Daniel trailing her.
