After giving Philip a respectful bow and achieving his goal, William left Buckingham Palace with a satisfied smile and drove back to his estate.
Although he had gained official authority and privileges, William had no intention of taking on both werewolves and vampires simultaneously. Fighting on two fronts was a critical mistake he wasn't willing to make.
He was well aware that while it was relatively simple to clear out werewolves, completely eradicating their species was an entirely different challenge. However, shrinking their space for survival? That was a much more achievable goal.
All he had to do was install detection devices in major cities and rural areas. As soon as a werewolf was detected, he'd send people to eliminate it. Over time, all of England could become a no-go zone for these creatures. And in the process, he could even make a fortune by selling the detection devices.
As his car pulled into the estate, William sat in the driver's seat for a moment, thinking it over. He decided that initially, he would cooperate with the vampires to deal with the werewolves. Once the werewolves were cleared out, he would reassess the situation to determine whether to deal with the vampires as well.
Having made up his mind, he instructed Sunday, "Focus all resources on manufacturing spherical detection devices over the next few days. Start by scanning London's underground sewer system, then move on to Oxford and other cities. Once the werewolves are located, deploy spider drones to build a database of every werewolf in England. Wait for my order before making a move."
"Understood, sir," Sunday replied.
After a brief pause, William added, "Produce 100,000 silver bullets and notify all personnel to remain on standby and stay quiet until further notice. Also, manufacture a Devonshire MK-3 Combat Suit for each individual based on their body measurements. By the way, what's the current market price for a ton of silver?"
Sunday responded, "Production orders have been initiated. Based on today's silver spot price, a ton of silver costs £190,000."
"So cheap?" William raised an eyebrow before breaking into a grin. "In that case, buy 10 tons for reserves."
After taking care of these matters, William stretched, went to his bedroom, and fell asleep in Abigail's arms after a relaxing bath.
For the next ten days, everything remained quiet on William's end, with no unusual activity. After Christmas, Philip, having waited anxiously for over a week, couldn't hold back any longer and called William to ask about his plans. Unfortunately for Philip, all he got was a curt response: "I'm still preparing." Frustrated but helpless, the king had no choice but to calm himself and wait.
On New Year's Day 2001, England was enveloped in a festive atmosphere. However, the weather refused to cooperate, as heavy rain began early in the morning. By evening, the rain had intensified, forcing many celebrations to be canceled.
At 8 PM, the skies were completely dark, and most citizens had retreated to their homes to celebrate with family and friends. The streets grew increasingly empty.
Inside a large truck moving through London's city center, Kingsman agents Eggsy, Wesley, and Laura were having a heated discussion. Eggsy, visibly annoyed, vented his frustration.
"What kind of mission needs to happen today of all days? My mum and sister are waiting for me at home for dinner!"
Wesley glanced at Laura, who was busy checking her weapons and attaching reactive armor plates to her suit. Seeing that she ignored Eggsy, Wesley shrugged and whispered, "Mate, are you looking to get yourself killed?"
He smirked and leaned closer to Eggsy, lowering his voice further. "Don't forget, Laura's father, Earl Croft, has been missing for years. If you don't want to piss her off, I'd suggest you shut your mouth."
Eggsy immediately shrank back, clamping his mouth shut. He cast a cautious glance at Laura, and only when he saw that she wasn't paying attention did he let out a small sigh of relief.
Amused by Eggsy's nervous expression, Wesley continued, "Besides, complaining won't change anything. This is a mission from the boss. Would you really dare say no? Could you even afford to?"
Eggsy was about to retort when memories of the past month surfaced. In that short time, he and his teammates had been effortlessly beaten to the ground by William three separate times. The thought sent a shiver down his spine.
On top of that, William had promised them between $10,000 and $100,000 for every mission, depending on their performance. For someone like Eggsy, who had grown up poor, the lure of such money was irresistible.
Rubbing his fingers together as if counting imaginary bills, Eggsy asked in a hushed voice, "How much are we getting paid for this mission?"
Wesley's eyes lit up. "The payout depends on Merlin's evaluation. If we want to earn more, we'll have to take out as many werewolves as we can."
"Bloody hell," Eggsy muttered, his face a mix of disbelief and frustration. "I still can't wrap my head around the fact that werewolves and vampires are real. Ever since that day when they blindfolded us and brought us to that secret base, I haven't been to a single nightclub in over ten days!"
"Enough chatter, gentlemen," Merlin's voice came over the comms. "We're five minutes away from Greens Station. Eggsy, you're the primary striker tonight. Equip the Type-3 Assault Reactive Armor and dual wrist-mounted machine guns. Bring as many silver bullets as you can carry."
"Understood," Eggsy said quickly, then turned to Wesley in a panic. "Mate, help me swap to the Type-3!"
Wesley rolled his eyes but began assisting him without complaint. Watching the two of them fumble around, Laura muttered under her breath, "Idiots."
When they arrived outside Greens Station, Merlin parked the truck near the platform and waited silently for Sunday's signal.
After a few minutes, a virtual figure appeared on the helmet displays of Laura, Eggsy, and Wesley. Seeing the image of a handsome man, Eggsy couldn't help but read the data aloud. "Michael Corvinus. A surgeon at East London Hospital. Sunday, is he our target?"
"Yes," Sunday confirmed. "Mission objective one: Eliminate Michael Corvinus."
Before Eggsy could ask why, Sunday continued, "Michael's genes have the potential to merge werewolf and vampire DNA, creating a new hybrid species that combines the strengths of both. Your mission is to kill Michael and assist the vampires in wiping out all werewolves."
"Assist the vampires? Why?" This time, even Laura, who rarely spoke, couldn't help but ask.
Before Sunday could respond, Merlin's voice cut through the comms sharply. "Damn it, your job is to follow orders, not ask questions!"
As Eggsy and Laura fell silent, an unexpected voice came through the channel. It was William.
"I'll tell you why," William said, his tone calm yet commanding. "But listen carefully—this will be the first and last time I explain myself. If you question orders again, you'll be subjected to a memory wipe. Is that clear?"
"Understood, sir," the three agents replied in unison, standing at attention.
"Werewolves and vampires are mortal enemies. Our current objective is to purge all werewolves from England. Do you understand?"
"Yes, sir!" they replied again.
Two kilometers away, two more trucks identical to Merlin's were parked by the roadside. Inside, William gave instructions to Barney, who was clad in a Devonshire MK-3 Combat Suit.
"If you can capture Lucian alive, do it. If not, bring back his corpse."
"Got it, boss," Barney replied. After a moment's hesitation, he asked, "Are you sure you don't want us to help Eggsy and the others? If it's just about capturing Lucian, Christmas, Gunnar, and I can handle it."
"No," William said with a smile. "They'll be fine. If anything happens, Sunday will assist them. Your job is not only to capture Lucian but also to block the werewolves' escape routes. Remember, I want them all dead."
