Chapter 658 - Chapter 659: The Three Cold Artifacts (Part 1)

"Jing, could this guy be an ancestor of Jing Tian?"

After hearing Han Lingsha's introduction to this man, Jingyang, the young master who sells paintings and calligraphy, Daniel Davis immediately thought of this possibility. He couldn't help but carefully examine this young master. Jingyang had the typical scholar's appearance, the kind that seemed incapable of even hurting a chicken. Even though this was a world of immortals, in the mundane world of the imperial dynasty, the idea still prevailed that all other pursuits were inferior, with only scholarly endeavors being exalted.

In the martial world, people sought immortality and the Dao, often seen as unworthy pursuits. For example, Yun Tianqing was once treated as such by his family, who even cast him out. The Yun family, though not too large, was still considered a prominent family in the imperial court, and was awarded by the emperor.

"Let's go, to Baoqi Bank."

After briefly explaining Jingyang's background and situation, Han Lingsha immediately led the group to Baoqi Bank in Chenzhou, intending to withdraw money to lend to Jingyang.

It turned out that Jingyang's father, Jing Huan, was once the Minister of Rites in the court. He was a top scholar, having passed the imperial examination with the highest honors. However, due to offending the powerful prime minister, he was framed and stripped of his office. Subsequently, he fell seriously ill. Because he had been an honest official and had not accumulated much wealth, he now found himself unable to even afford medical treatment.

Of course, part of the reason was that his situation had changed. When Jing Huan was still the Minister of Rites, he had many visitors, but after losing his position, his house became desolate. Even his relatives ignored him, and it was in this situation that Jingyang had to give up his pride as the young master and start selling paintings and calligraphy.

The paintings and calligraphy he sold were ones he had created himself. When Jing Huan was still the Minister of Rites, his works—both paintings and poetry—were greatly admired, and the title of Chenzhou's first talent was bestowed upon him under such circumstances. However, in reality, Jingyang's art was only slightly better than that of an amateur painter.

"Boss, withdraw five hundred taels."

Arriving at Baoqi Bank, Han Lingsha immediately took out her voucher to withdraw money. Upon seeing the voucher, the staff at the counter greeted them with smiles and ushered the group into a private room, where the boss was called over. The amount on the voucher had a long string of zeros, clearly indicating that Han Lingsha was a wealthy lady.

In this world, money had great purchasing power. Five hundred taels didn't sound like much, but in reality, it was quite a large sum.

In the world of the Immortal Sword, one tael of silver could be exchanged for a thousand wen. Five hundred taels would be fifty thousand wen. When Yun Tianhe first descended the mountain, he had bought a zongzi for one wen each. If converted, five hundred taels would indeed be a huge amount of money.

"Fake number one beauty, are you interested in me? Even though you're a martial artist and not the real number one beauty in the world, I don't mind marrying you and making you my main wife, I won't let you suffer."

Seeing the huge sum of money that Han Lingsha was lending him, Jingyang was very shocked. Ever since his father had lost his official position, he had truly experienced the coldness of the world. Now, Han Lingsha was helping him in his time of need, and Jingyang's first impression was that she had developed feelings for him, otherwise, why would she lend him such a large sum?

"Shut up. This money isn't for you, it's a loan. It comes with interest, and it's for a period of ten years. You must repay it with interest; otherwise, the interest will keep accumulating."

Jingyang's words nearly made Han Lingsha jump up in anger. She had initially intended to lend him the money without any conditions.

"Don't worry." Jingyang, hearing Han Lingsha's demands, seemed unconcerned. He confidently replied, "I will definitely repay this money. When I was nine years old, I met a Daoist who read my fortune. He told me that from my family onwards, one of my descendants would become a great wealthy person in Shu. A few hundred taels is nothing."

With this, Jingyang asked the bank's owner for paper and a pen, wrote a promissory note and the terms of interest, then took the money he had withdrawn, along with a voucher for the remaining funds, and turned to leave. With the money, he could now buy medicine for his father.

Due to his weak physique, Jingyang couldn't carry the five hundred taels himself.

"By the way." As Jingyang was about to exit, he suddenly turned around and said, "My family is located on the western shore of Longhu Lake outside Chenzhou City. You can ask around there if you need to find it." After saying this, Jingyang immediately left.

"This guy, I never expected him to push the repayment to the next life, or even the next few generations. Who knows if a wealthy person will really appear in his family?"

After Jingyang left, Han Lingsha was feeling quite frustrated. The ten-year deadline she had set was meant only in response to Jingyang's previous words, but now, he had brought up the fortune-teller's words.

"Generations from now, a great fortune in Shu… Wasn't Jing Tian's successor supposed to be a wealthy person? Looks like he really is an ancestor of Jing Tian." Jing Tian's reincarnations were many. For example, the elder brother of Mo Jianlong, who had been around during the Warring States period, was one of them. However, among all these reincarnations, only Jing Tian had recovered his cultivation.

"Do you really want to marry him?" As Han Lingsha was still mulling over Jingyang's repayment issue, Yun Tianhe suddenly spoke up.

"Yun Tianhe, you idiot!" Han Lingsha exploded upon hearing Yun Tianhe's words and angrily stormed out of Baoqi Bank.

"Sigh." Looking at Yun Tianhe, who was scratching his head, not knowing what he had said wrong, Liu Mengli shook her head helplessly.

"Don't tear it up. If you don't want it, just give it to me," Daniel Davis said as he followed Han Lingsha out of the bank. He noticed that Han Lingsha was about to tear up Jingyang's promissory note, and immediately intervened.

Han Lingsha had never intended to have Jingyang repay the money. The reason she had lent it to him was because his father, Jing Huan, had been a good official. Over the years, Han Lingsha had helped many people.

"Do you really want him to repay it?"

"Of course not. I just thought of something interesting," Daniel Davis said, extending his hand for the promissory note.

"Then it's yours." Han Lingsha didn't think much about it and handed him the note.

"I wonder how Jing Tian will feel when he sees this promissory note. Will he repay it or not?" Once he had the note in hand, Daniel Davis smiled meaningfully as he thought about how, with the interest on the loan, after hundreds of years, Jing Tian would probably go bankrupt if he had to pay it back.

Daniel Davis had no intention of having Jing Tian repay the loan. His only thought was to tease Jing Tian if he ever met him in the future. After all, if he had already come to the world of Immortal Sword and met Yun Tianhe and Liu Mengli, it was possible that he would run into Jing Tian, Wang Xiaohu, Li Xiaoyao, Zhao Ling'er, Lin Yueru, and others.

"What are you thinking? You look so sinister." Han Lingsha, who had been walking ahead, tilted her head to look at Daniel Davis.

"Sneaky?" Daniel Davis was just about to speak, but Yun Tianhe and Liu Mengli came out and interrupted him.

"Alright, now it's time for the girls' secret time. You two go wait for us outside the city," Han Lingsha said as she walked up to Liu Mengli and grabbed her arm.

"Han Lingsha, it's almost time. Shouldn't we go back?"

"I know, that's why I told them to wait outside the city. We need to go buy some things." Han Lingsha whispered something in Liu Mengli's ear, and Liu Mengli immediately nodded.

"Got it." Daniel Davis could roughly guess what Han Lingsha and Liu Mengli were going to do—buy some feminine products. So he didn't wait for Yun Tianhe to start speaking and directly dragged him away.

They didn't have to wait long outside the city before Han Lingsha and Liu Mengli returned together. Neither of them were the type to enjoy shopping, so they were done quickly.

The four of them then flew back to the Qionghua Sect on their swords without causing any stir. Time continued to pass as they continued their training at Qionghua. Since they could fly on swords, Yun Tianhe felt more at ease and no longer complained about the sect's food. If it was unbearable, he could simply hunt or fly out for a meal.

For some time afterward, the four of them did not always act together. Yun Tianhe would sometimes accompany Han Lingsha, sometimes Liu Mengli.

Daniel Davis occasionally went off by himself, or had a meal with Yun Tianhe and Liu Mengli.
