Luke felt a shifting unease settle over him under Iskander's glare.
"How did you manage to get here, Yohana? I assumed this kind of event wasn't really your thing," Luke remarked, flashing a familiar smile. "By the way, I must say you look beautiful in that dress. You always had that rare quality where any color looks perfect on you."
He slipped easily back into his usual flirting. Even in the past, he had never been able to help himself whenever Yohana was around. It wasn't a habit he practiced with just any woman—only her. She had captured his heart a long time ago, and the feeling hadn't faded.
"Alpha Luke, you haven't changed at all. You don't look half bad yourself today," Yohana said, neatly deflecting his compliment while offering a polite one of her own.
"Yohana, can't you just once respond to my feelings?" Luke asked, arching an eyebrow.
Before she could answer, Iskander suddenly appeared beside them, having abandoned his conversation with an elder Alpha mid-sentence.
