Chapter 17 - chapter 16

Roe had gone invisible for a while… and just like that, he came back.

Mawra had been searching for him everywhere.

When Roe finally reappeared in his room, Mawra barged in, clearly upset.

"Where were you?!" Mawra shouted, his voice sharp but not hurtful. "Do you know how worried I was?"

Roe looked down, silent.

Mawra took a deep breath, calming down. His anger wasn't just frustration—it was care.

Seeing that, Roe's eyes welled up. Without a word, he stepped forward and hugged Mawra tightly.

Mawra paused, then gently patted his head.

There was more to this bond. Mawra once had a younger brother, William, who passed away in an accident. Roe reminded him so much of William—his eyes, his quiet nature… maybe even his pain.

Because of that, Roe had a special place in Mawra's heart. Maybe it was fate. Maybe a mistake. Or maybe a blessing. No one knew yet.

Later that day, they went to Mawra's favorite spot—a quiet garden with a view of the sea. A few steps down, and the beach waited.

They sat on the bench as the breeze carried the scent of salt and flowers.

Mawra turned to Roe. "Hey… tell me more about yourself."

Roe blinked. "Like what?"

"Your life before this. Was it okay? Is there anything you want now?"

Roe looked away for a second, thinking. But before he could answer, Mawra's phone rang.

"Sorry," he said after checking the screen. "I need to take this. Might have to leave."

Roe nodded with a small smile. "It's okay. We'll talk later."

Mawra returned the smile, gave him a quick nod, and left.

Roe watched him go… then turned toward the sound of waves and walked quietly down to the beach.
