Chapter 20 - Chapter Twenty

Lady Genesis struggled desperately to pull her little hand out of Landmark's grasp.

"I don't want to go back there". She told him when he turned his head to her with raised brows. "I'm not going back there". She cried, her body shaking with fear and timidity. Marlon was her confidence and backing at social gatherings plus meetings but now that she didn't know if he was dead or still alive, the confidence paved way to the broken soul, her real form; the broken soul who tried to stay sane and tried to act normal, pretending to be the proud and disgusted Noble she was not in public.

Lady Genesis squatted to go down on her knees but she was yanked back to her feet and pulled closely like she was giving a hug to a best friend who had been lost in battle.

"Never". Landmark started, his arm wrapped round her waist as he whispered what he had been meaning to tell her when he saw her go down on both knees.

"Never no matter the situation kneel to anyone lower or higher than you in position regardless of the situation even if it entails your last breath or your head. Always keep your head high even though you may be in the wrong". He whispered lowly into her ear, his eyes glaring at the busy-body guards manning the door and parading the hall.

"You don't understand". She pulled back, her gaze never straying from the polished floor.

"I am no one in their sight, a lowly peasant; someone lower than a Commoner, so I have no right in defending myself Lord Landmark".

"Hmm". He hummed, draping something warm on her shoulders making her look up in surprise.

"Let's change that". He fixed his black coat that shrouded her height, tying the knot securely to hold the oversized coat on her.

"W-What do you mean?". She asked perplexed, watching incredulously as he pulled her black locks down from the side and over her shoulders, ruffling the top and patting it back down to add more curls.

"Much better". She was frozen in position, too shocked and too scared to say anything.

"L-Lord what a-are you doing?" She spoke when she found her voice, oddly comfortable speaking because of the friendly aura present around him now and not the terrifying one always surrounding George.

"Let's say you've found favor in my sight".

What did that mean?

"What do you mean?". She voiced her thoughts out. "You mean like f-friends?". Landmark chuckled, too amused to correct her.

"Yes like friends".

The guards present in the hall almost coughed up blood. Did they mistake a doppelganger for the notorious Landmark?

[-] What era do you live in?. They all questioned or chastised Lady Genesis in their minds, shocked that she didn't understand the meaning of finding favor in the sight of a Noble in higher rank.

"Are you ready?". He asked watching her contemplate and bite her lips timidly until she nodded tentatively and subtly.

Landmark nodded at the guards manning the door, the look in his eyes changing for a brief second.

"Keep your eyes ahead, shoulders relaxed and not slouching". His palm flattened on her back to adjust the timid position she wore.

"Lastly, stare down anyone who gives you a nasty look".

Was he crazy?
