Chapter 24 - Chapter Twenty Four

Dusk was breaking through but that couldn't be known with the angry dark clouds that hung over the sky, glaring down at the events that happened at different locations of the woods. The frenzied snort and stomping of the horses had calmed down as one out of the four calmed and caressed the flange of the horses, whispering sweet words. Slowly, the warm goopy liquid soaked her tattered sleeve while some leaked down her hand; she could feel particles of glass shards embedded in her wounds when she flexed or clenched her hand out of fear at the sword held against her neck, almost tearing through the already tender skin.

"Dispose the body". The figure behind her ordered and her body moved on its own.

"No!!!". Lady Genesis screamed, driving her body forward and making the edge of the sword break into her skin when the four others moved to dispose the maimed corpse. The sword was pulled away quickly and stabbed into the earth below them before more damage was done.

"Little bitch!!". She was yanked backwards by her hair.

"Let me go!". She struggled against the grip on her hair, adrenaline pumped high as she stomped down on his foot, making the tight grip loosen for her to drive her head backwards. It stung like hell but her survival instinct kicked in as she took off in the other direction, deep into the woods although she knew she wouldn't make it far with the limp still present. Her glazed-teary gaze frantically searched everywhere as she ran, the coat floating behind her and acting as a burden due to the strong wind of the upcoming rain that had started to drizzle lightly. Clearly she could hear their heavy footsteps stomping on and snapping twigs, and their panicked shouts while they gained in on her. One tried to reach for her by grabbing the coat but he had miscalculated, not knowing she fiddled with the knot as she ran until it came loose and she let it go, making the former stumble and fall, weighing back the others and giving her an advantage.

From behind a massive fallen tree trunk in a crouch, Autumn's fox- like eyes watched every move of the guards at a distance. They had lost the former ones only to meet these ones making her curse luck; Bridget beside her had her body leaning heavily against the trunk for support as fatigue weighed down on her. The grueling headache was starting to form but she knew better than anyone than to open her eyes or move a limb.

Please not now...Not now! She begged as dizziness and bile swarmed in. Slowly, she lay herself to rest sideway, on the soil while she kept her injured ankle outstretched . A pained grunt left her mouth, alerting Autumn who moved in her direction.

"Bridget? Are you alright?". she placed her palm flat on Bridget's forehead only to panic. "You're burning up!!!". She exclaimed going down on all fours.

"Sorry". Bridget apologized. "It's something that happens when I skip my dosage".

"Why didn't you take it?!". Autumn questioned still panicking with her palm not leaving Bridget's forehead, noticing how her temperature seemed to ride up.

"Couldn't take it with Finnegan not giving breaks in between punishments".

"He would pay". Bridget laughed at Autumn's threat but groaned when pain wacked her head like it was tearing open. She could feel faint heartbeat on her forehead doubled with pain in her head.

Racking her brain for solutions, Autumn returned back to watching the guards who had a crying woman on her knees in their midst holding onto two little ones in both arms with their faces pressed flush against her chest as she pleaded. Autumn didn't need to strain her ears when she could hear every conversation and whisper clearly. Drizzle had began and the screams of the woman paused her wandering mind but that wasn't what distracted her, the second scream had sounded far away from their current location but she still heard it although very faint but carried by the wind.

"Hold on B, don't die on me". She tapped Bridget's cheek as she tuned in on the ongoing conversation of plea.

"Make it quick, it's gonna rain cat and dog". A guard told the others as he gazed at the dark clouds that spat drops of rain down and on his face. They were five in total; recruited by Finnegan to end the family of the previous guard that had come to deliver the message of Bridget's disappearance in the meeting room. So here they stood, before his family- wife and fraternal twin kids. Although it would be a pity to kill a pretty lady like this one.

"Tell me". Her chin was grabbed while a twin was yanked from her arms with a dagger pointed to his throat. "Who should we start with first?".
