Chapter 2 - WHO ARE YOU?

For centuries before Kauleen was born, the night creatures had lived in the shadows only few having the knowledge of their existence.

The first female King.

Marigold King.

She'd brought them into limelight...reason unknown.

The night creatures, locally vampires, have been coexisting with humans for years now; although they have a community of their own behind a big wall -almost as great as the great wall of china. It was heavily guarded and filled with bobbytraps, only designated vamps were allowed in and out anyhow they liked while others had a curfew.

Walking through the biting cold, Kauleen admired the scenery for a while until she heard the familiar snarls she was waiting for...

Rogues.

Rogues are exiled vampires who'd gone wild over time. There's always been cases about their violent killings in the city, and the joint police force -humans and vampires- and soldiers, worked towards the eradication with great difficulty.

For Kauleen? It was a piece of cake.

Her father had been the one to create a special type of drug to enable the vampires walk in the sunlight -made her question how old her father was- and it had been of great help to night creatures. The King family also helped the issue with the rogues as the men in the family had been trained to become rogue hunters and they worked with the joint forces.

But when the entire lineage had been wiped out, it had become a major problem -well not all- but no one knew she was alive afterall.

Whirling around, Kauleen was met with a large army of snarling gross faces. Their red eyes were dull, compared to a normal vampire. The rogues usually turn one when they've suffered from bloodlust for too long or a slight deformity in their turning.

They attacked...Kauleen defended...

Kauleen attacked...they died.

She made use of a silent gun, wanting this over with as soon as possible; and no they weren't filled with normal bullets, but with silver bullets.

Few minutes later, she was surrounded by a sea of dead bodies, slowly turning to dust -as vampires did when they died.

According to history, it had all started as a virus, which had mutated and created super humans, but it came with a price. Over the years, the virus proved to be stronger and there is no cure as the core had never been discovered. A vampire is turned and can be done by another vampire using the venom in their fangs. But all females that have been experimented on had either died or turned into something worse than the rogues...

A swift whoosh had Kauleen turning. Keeping her whole weight on the top of their toes, she bounced up using two trees and landed on a high branch as the bullet which had been aimed for her but another tree. She narrowed her eyes and watched as a set of vampires in all black uniform walked to the position she'd been standing. She recognized the stripes of purple on their uniforms...

THE SECRET LEAGUE.

A team of highly trained vampires headed by The prime four.

The prime four was a name give to the only four pure breds in the whole of vampire history. No one knew how it had happened, but these boys had been said to be born right out of the virus. It had been on a certain experimentation on three pregnant women. They'd died, but the babies survived.

They were rumoured to be lethal and ruthless. Even the council had no right over them no matter how much they tried.

A pair of twins -identical, and two others.

Kauleen had never met them but they were bad news for her. She knew she'd been on the radar of the joint forces and the council of the vampires ever since she'd been on the self given mission, but she sure as hell didn't want to be in the radar of these four.

She moved.

Atop the trees, she jumped from branch to branch, but they were hot on her tail. No matter how skilled she was, she could never outrun a vampire; talk less of the strongest in history. Cursing, she led them to the cliff area and landed gracefully on her feet and she whirled around to face her chasers.

Four tall men stood before her.

They all should be around 6'7 feet if she wasn't mistaken. Their eyes were red and a sense of pride filled her knowing they skill needed their vampire side to catch up with her.

"You're not a vampire", a deep voice sounded.

She couldn't tell who exactly spoke given they were all wearing nose masks which only exposed their blood red eyes, but she suspected it was the one who looked the most ominous; he had long brown hair, flowing all the way to his shoulders, and it looked lighter as it was dusted in snow -like the rest of them.

"Don't smell human either", another voice to the left. He was a blonde.

"The suit hides your scent", a similar voice to the blonde sounded, just lighter. He was blonde too and Kauleen guessed out of the four these two might be the twins.

"You're as fast as a vampire", the last one who hadn't spoken said. This one had short black hair that framed his face.

They never asked questions.

They only stated the obvious.

"Who are you?", the first one who had spoken asked the question Kauleen had been awaiting.

She said nothing.

They stared at her awaiting an answer.

When she gave none, they attacked to capture. But Kauleen had read all the signs already. So she defended herself.

They were so in sync.

All four of them attacked her at once and she defended from all sides.

It looked like a lethal dance where you could never determine the outcome.

They paused.

Surprised by her speed and skill.

Kauleen watched as their ears perked up and her hands moved faster than her eyes as she armed the bow with an arrow towards the direction of one of the blondes. He had misread and moved and Kauleen immediately fired another, diverting the first arrow and both taking their hit on her target.

It happened so fast that all was quiet for a while, as though time froze.

One moment they were in the middle of a no-distraction-allowed fight and the next a dead rogue laid on the floor where one of the boys stood.

When they turned to face her, they were met with an empty space.

She was gone...

...leaving one Question on their mind...

Who was she?...
