Chapter 4 - GOT YOU

Clad in thesame leather jumpsuit from earlier, Kauleen sat at the edge of a large rock that faced the moon. It was her usual habit to take a shot of rum after each mission's success, but for tonight, she changed her plans and decided to actually go clubbing. She got bored within minutes and found herself staring up at the sky in melancholy. She felt a bit tipsy even though she'd barely had anything to drink.

She sighed

Rubbing her brow, she cursed at her horrible alcohol tolerance and the heavy pressure against her eyes resulting from the headache she was currently nursing.

Looking down at her watch, she counted seconds until twelve

"Happy new year to me" she whispered softly as memories flashed through her mind.

Her quiet musings were interrupted by a high pitched shrill female voice

"Just how disgustingly pathetic can you be?? What the hell are you doing her Kauleen??"

"Since when do i need to inform you about my whereabouts? Last i remember i don't answer to you" Kauleen's voice dripped with obvious disdain

Bridget Bones

A childhood friend... and a deserter

The moment the Kings were wiped out with Kauleen being the only survivor, she'd gone around labelling her the murderer and the Bones family tried to take over all properties and power the Kings held

They failed

They'd suffered a heavy backlash instead which almost got them bankrupt.

Bridget blamed her for it.

Her nostrils flared

"You're following us aren't you?? You knew Ethan was going to be here. You came to stop my proposal didn't you?"

Kauleen almost retched in disgust.

Ethan Knight

Yet another childhood friend

A fraud

He had tried to take advantage of Kauleen on her fifteenth birthday in the thought of latching unto the precious princess of the Kings household but Bridget had caught him in the act and seeing him through rose-tinted glasses, placed all blame on Kauleen as being 'slutty' and 'abusing her power'. That had been the complete fall out between them all.

"I am no fly" said Kauleen as she rolled her eyes and jumped down from the rock

Bridget's face reddened in anger

"You disgust me. Who the hell are you pretending for?! You disappear for years and suddenly reappear on the day of my proposal. Just how pathetic has the sole heir of the great Kings fallen..."

"Say my last name one more time. I dare you", her voice was a soft menace and the winter air suddenly became colder.

Bridget paled and took a few steps backwards and she gulped audibly. Her heart raced and fear filled her mind

what is this...

With a last glance, Kauleen walked off, her boots barely making any footprints in the snow due to her innate light foot work.

She walked into the woods where her ears picked up quiet snarls and low groans-telltale signs of rogues...

A feral grin formed on her face.

Three hours later, she sat on the branch of a large tree with a bottle of pills in her hand. The bottle once holding three pills at the beginning of her killing spree now held just one.

Her small mouth pursed beneath the handkerchief serving as a makeshift mask. It seems she might need to take a trip the next day... calling for importation will take too long and she won't make it.

She sighed and leaned back against the tree and closed her eyes. Still as the wind, she blended effortlessly into the forest.

For as long as she could remember, those little white pills had been a constant in her life. All she knew was that they suppressed her overpowered emotions and helped the symptoms of her 'illness'.

What illness though?

She had no clue.

All data and records about it had gone missing on the day of her sixteenth birthday. All they had were the medicine's prescription, method of production and technology needed for it. Anything concerning what exactly it is for had been wiped clean and so she gave up her search.

Kauleen had barely slept for an hour when the smell of smoke hit her.

She frowned in annoyance and looked below to see a human girl dressed in a skimpy rumpled black gown with a bleeding neck, holding a signal flare. Around her stood six male vampires, their eyes gleaming with greed and desire as they eyed the blood on her neck.

Kauleen frowned

The smell of blood will definitely attract more vampires and rogues

"D...d...don't... don't come a...any c...c...closer" the girl stuttered as she waved the flare frantically

Kauleen rolled her eyes and swallowed her disdain for her own inability to mind her business as she jumped down from the tree, landing right in the middle of the circle and next to the girl.

The girl gasped wildly in shock and stared at Kauleen with wide eyes. Kauleen yawned languidly and popped a chewing gum into her mouth. She rooted out a bandage and slapped it over the girl's bleeding neck.

The vampires growled in anger and attacked without warning, seeing them as two defenceless women

"Duck"

The girl's response was immediate despite her fear as she slammed her self flat to the ground to avoid the brawl.

Halfway through the fight, a heavy wave of dizziness washed over Kauleen and she missed a step. Unable to dodge in time, the venom coated claws of a vampire swipped at her hand. The clothing sizzled and melted as though doused in acid

Damn it

My favourite outfit

Shaking away the dizziness, she attacked more ruthlessly than before. Unknowingly, her green eyes, took on flashed with an eerie aqua blue and crimson red bled into the rims slowly. The sickening crunch of broken bones and agonizing wails of terror and pain filled the once quiet air.

After the fight, Kauleen took a deep breath and pulled the girl to her feet

"Run. Don't look back. Now!"

The girl who had been worried about her saviour's safety immediately fled with terror.

Kauleen turned around to face the incoming horde of snarling rogues

"Dammit", she cursed softly

On another she'd have been ecstatic to get rid of them without needing to bait and hunt but definitely not today.

With a resigned groan, she rooted out a slender katana and a whip. She hadn't brought her bow with her since she hadn't exactly planned on doing any heavy work tonight...

just had to go play the hero didn't you?

Idiot

Two hours later

Kauleen leaned against a tree and panted heavily. She glanced at her watch and cursed. It was almost six... she had to leave

Shaking out the dizziness, she took a staggering step forward and then retreated three steps. With a slight tap of her foot, she jumped up the tree and began jumping from branch to branch as she dodged the darts and spikes aimed her way. Frustration flared in her chest when she missed a step and had to drop from the tree. Four figures dropped too and Kauleen swallowed the string of curses that rose to her throat

Goddammit

She locked eyes with a certain arrogant pair of hazel eyes

Got you
