Kira PoV
My eyes widened as several of the villagers were sent flying– their makeshift armor charred.
I shook my head as I recognized some of them. Amongst them was the florist, he was one of the few people in the village that was nice to me. He had fallen to the ground, struggling to get back up, and it felt as though my heart had been wrenched from my chest. I couldn't just stand by and watch as the people I cared for were hurt.
"Kira?" Florencio said, eyes wide. He smiled weakly as blood trickled down his mouth.
I looked on in horror as an enemy soldier thrust his spear into his chest, finishing the job.
"No!" I yelled, my voice cracking as I watched the life fade from Florencio's eyes. My heart shattered into a million pieces, the weight of despair crashing down on me like a tidal wave. I felt a mixture of grief and rage boiling up inside me, threatening to consume me whole.
