"What did you say?" Nina Walsh thought she was hearing things.
Declan Grant said, his voice laced with pain, "Last night, a worker forgot to turn off the main breaker, and a fire started in the workshop... By the time the fire department arrived, the entire factory was in flames."
"I don't believe you!" Nina shouted, shaking her head. "That's impossible! Take me there. I want to see for myself."
Nina scrambled to her feet and rushed desperately for the door, but she barely took two steps before her legs gave out and she collapsed. Declan Grant quickly caught her.
"I'll take you. Just calm down."
Unable to dissuade her, Declan had no choice but to drive her to Maelie Apparel Co.
Forty minutes later, the car stopped at the main gate. The familiar building was gone, replaced by a charred, condemned structure.
The ravages of the fire were everywhere. Nina couldn't believe the scene before her. She tried to open the door, but Declan kept the locks engaged.
