Chapter 9 - Part 8

*Haruhi's first day*

Kyoya was a tiny bit excited about having his childhood friend come to Ouran. She had earned it, and he had given her study tips and a few reference books. And he may have anonymously given a reference to Tamaki's father, the Chairman.

*After classes in Ouran Host Club*

"Kyoya, you seem less tense today," said Tamaki.

"Tamaki, I have no idea what you mean,"

"Mommy won't tell Papa what's going on,"

"Oh, boss," sighed the Twins.

The door creaks open.

*With Haruhi*

Haruhi is walking around the halls, looking for a place to study. She told Kyoya she would meet up with him after club activities. Standing in front of one of the school's four library rooms, none of them were quiet. Internal sigh How are things in heaven, Mom? I can't believe it has been ten years already. I'm beginning to think rich kids only come to school to have a good time. In an abandoned music room, I guess this will be the only place I'll be able to study in peace.

*with Kyoya*

"Tamaki, the door is opening. Get into position,"

Tamaki was in his little corner of misery growing mushrooms until Kyoya told him the door had opened.

"Okay, men, everyone in positions,"

The rose petals were thrown, and the fan was on low to make it look whimsical.

"Welcome," said all the hosts.

*Haruhi's pov*

When I opened the door, I found the host club. The wait, isn't that the club Kyoya's in?

*Tamaki Pov*

"Only those with excellent social standings and those from filthy rich families are lucky enough to spend their time at the elite private school Ouran Academy. The Ouran host Club is where the school's most handsome boys with too much time on their hands entertain young ladies who all have too much time on their hands. Think of it as Ouran Academy's elegant playground for the super-rich and beautiful."

The clock began ticking.

*Kyoya's Pov*

What happened to Haruhi's hair? I didn't think it would be cut, and now it looks like a disaster. I'll help her fix it later.

*Third person POV*

Big red arrow pointing at a beautiful, probably expensive vase. Haruhi was trembling with her back to the door.

"This is a host club?" Said Haruhi, trembling trying to stand straight Kyoya hadn't said we were the club and just to pretend she didn't know him or she might be attacked by his rapid fan girls he knew he had.

"Oh wow, it's a boy," said the twins, a bit surprised.

"Hikaru, Kaoru, I believe this young man is in the same class as you, isn't he," said Kyoya.

"Yea, but he's shy; he doesn't act very sociable, so we don't know much about him,"

"Humph," a light bulb goes off.

"Well, that wasn't a very polite welcome to the Ouran Host Club Mister Honor student,"

Haruhi wasn't surprised by Kyoya's weak voice and poker Face. He did that all the time in public, but he was relatively relaxed when alone.

"What you must be, Haruhi Fujioka; you're the exceptional honour student we've heard about,"

Haruhi was struggling to get the door open. She had figured the man speaking was Tamaki, and she seriously didn't want to meet this person. Haruhi turned her head, and her face was pale.

"How did you know my name,"

"Why are your infamous it's not every day that a commoner gains entrance into our academy,"

The red arrow is still pointed at the vase. Haruhi knew that Kyoya was not trying to insult her, but still, he owed her Dango after this. The word commoner appeared beside her face.

"You must have an audacious nerve to work to fight your way into this school,"

Audacious appeared with the word commoner.

"As an Honor student Mister Fujioka."

Kyoya knew that he now owed Haruhi a dozen dango for this.

"Well, a thank you-I guess,"

Haruhi's eyebrow was twitching.

"You're welcome your a hero to other poor people, Fujioka; you have shown the world even a poor person can excel at an elite private Academy,"

Two lines pop out of Haruhi's head, and she sidesteps away from Tamaki.

"It must be hard for you to be constantly looked down upon by others,"

Tamari and Haruhi continue their one-step forward and two-step-back approach.

"Think you're taking this poor thing too far,"

"spur neglected, but that doesn't matter now. Long live the poor we welcome you, poor man, into our world of beauty,"

"I'm outta here,"

"Hey, come back here, Haru-chan; you must be like a superhero, or sometimes that's so cool,"

"I'm not a hero; I'm an honour student," two lines come up from Haruhi's head when she realizes what the short blond has said, "and who are you calling Haru-chan."

"I never would have imagined the famous scholar would be so openly gay,"

Haruhi looked over at Tamaki's detection.

"Openly what," Haruhi whispered; the only one to hear was Kyoya because of his heightened hearing.

"So tell me what kind of guys you're into. Do you like the strong silent type, the boy Lolita? How about the naughty type or the cool type...."

Haruhi interrupted, "ah ah, it's not like that. I was just looking for a quiet place to study,"

"Or maybe you're into a guy like me; what do you say,"

Haruhi backs off, repulsed by Tamaki right into, you guessed it, the vase.

"Huh," in slow motion, Haruhi tries to grab the now-falling vase. It hit the ground and shattered.

"Ah,"

"We were going to feature that renaissance vase in an upcoming school auction,"

"Oh, now you've done it, commoner, the bidding on that vase was supposed to start at eight million yen,"

"What eight million yen(Haruhi bangs her head on the podium and starts using her hands to calculate). How many thousand yen is that? How many thousands are in a million? Ah, I'm going to have to pay you back,"

"With what money, you can't even afford a school uniform,"

Kyoya had gotten her a uniform, but it was such an ugly shade of yellow that she had refused to wear it. Her father and Kyoya agreed, took back the uniform, and ensured that she could wear whatever she wanted as long as it was alright with the dress code.

"What's with that chubby outfit you have on anyway,"

Haruhi was breathing lightly and shaking like a leaf.

"Well, what do you think we should do, Tamaki," questioned Kyoya, knowing he now owed her a bubble tea and French chocolate.

"Well, there is a famous saying you may have heard, Fujioka When in Romans you should do as the Romans do since you have no money, you can pay with your body. That means starting today, tour the host clubs dog,"

*Haruhi POV*

I don't know if I can handle this, Mom. I've been captured by many boys calling themselves a host club. Haruhi fainted from all the stress and shock.

*Kyoya's POV*

I now owe her a homemade meal, and I can now cook well, so she always asks for it.

*Host Club has now started*

Girls were cheating at tables, elegantly sipping tea and talking about the latest gossip.

"Um, Tamaki, what's your favourite song,"

"What song, the one that reminds me of you, of course,"

"I baked you a cake today. Would you like to taste it,"

"Only if you'll feed it to me, darling,"

"Oh, how you're so dreamy,"

"May I have a word with you, Tamaki,"

Tamari turned to look at one of the other guests that sat there on the couch with him.

"I've recently heard the host club is keeping a little kitten without any Pedigree,"

"I don't know if I'd call him that speaks of the devil; thanks for doing the shopping, little piglet,"

*Kyoya POV*

Kyoya was tending to some guests when he smelt Haruhi, a mixture of mango and chocolate, a delicious combination. He inwardly sighed, his poker face never giving way. This was the worst; he wondered why he had even agreed to start the host club with Tamaki when he was the one only doing the work.

*Regular POV*

"Did you get everything on our list,"

"What piglet,"

"Hey, wait a minute, what is this,"

"Just what it looks like, it's coffee,"

"I've never seen this brand before. Is this the kind that's already ground,"

"What do you mean it's instant coffee,"

"It's instant,"

"Wow, I have heard of this before; it's commoners' coffee. You just add hot water,"

"I didn't know there was such a thing,"

"so it true then poor people don't even have enough free time to grind their coffee beans,"

"Hmmm," a crowd of girls nodded in sync.

"Commoners are pretty smart,"

Kyoya already knew of this and had been drinking commoners' coffee since Haruhi first made it for him. He even bought the company that produces the coffee currently in Tamaki's hands.

"100g for 300 yen,"

"That's a lot less than we normally pay,"

"I'll go back and get something else to excuse me for not buying you expensive coffee,"

"No, I'll keep it. I'm going to give it a try,"

Everyone around Tamaki was gasping.

"I will drink this coffee,"

Everyone begins to clap for him except Haruhi and Kyoya.

"Alright, Haruhi, get over her and make some of this commoner coffee,"

'I hate all these damn rich people,'

"Oh, Tamaki, now you're taking the joke too far; your pallet won't be able to stomach that crap. You don't have to drink it just because he bought it," said the girl from earlier, "I'm sorry, I was talking to myself,"

"Ahh," Haruhi just stared at her blankly.

*Kyoya POV*

He heard that she would be blocked at this rate which would make her go bankrupt and get expelled. I would light her on with my magic if I knew it wouldn't Haruhi hate me. Haruhi shouldn't be here; he knew this was going to take much more to make Haruhi happy later. He wished he hadn't asked her to pretend he didn't know her. He was crying because he wanted her famous head pats and for her not to be bullied like that. (If you haven't guessed, Kyoya\Natsu has turned into tsundere and is in love with Haruhi).

*Regular POV*

Haruhi placed a teaspoon of instant coffee into the fancy china. It took two seconds, the coffee was made, and Haruhi began serving it.

"Here,"

"Let the tasting begin,"

"I'm a little scared to drink this stuff,"

"I'm afraid if I drink this, my father will yell at me,"

"What if I let you drink it from my mouth,"

"Well, then I would drink it,"

"Ahhh," the girls screamed.

*with Hikaru and Karou*

"So he had this nightmare that made him bolt upright out of bed,"

"Hikaru, don't tell them that story. I asked you not to tell anyone why you are so mean to me,"

"I'm sorry, Karou. I didn't mean to upset you, but you were so adorable when it happened I had to tell them I'm sorry,"

"I forgive you,"

"Ahh, I haven't seen brotherly love quite like that," said the two girls at the twin's table.

*with Haruhi*

"What are they so excited about? I don't get it," said Haruhi as she walked past their table.

*with Honey and Mori*

"Aww, sorry, we're running late,"

"Hello, Honey. Hey Mori,"

"We've been waiting here for you guys. Hi,"

"I'm sorry I was waiting for Takashi to finish his kendo meeting, and I fell asleep, and I'm still not completely awake,"

With his cuteness, Honey had captured all the girls' hearts at the table.

"So cute,"

*with Haruhi*

"Is that little boy a third-year student,"

"Honey-senpai may seem young and childish, but he is a prodigy, and then Mori-senpai's allure is his strong and silent disposition,"

"So what is going to happen to my debt,"

"You'll be the host club's dog, but I have already secretly paid for the vase; your only doing this because Tamaki asked, and I'll make sure he doesn't go too far,"

"Thanks, Kyoya,"

"I'll meet up with you later for compensation of this,"

"You know you don't have to, Kyoya,"

"Yes, but they can get troublesome and May cause more trouble later,"

"You want head pats to, don't you,"

Kyoya looked away with a slight blush on his face and lightly nodded.

"Fine, what are you compensating me with,"

"A homemade meal made by me, your Father won't be home till late, a dozen Dango and your favourite bubble tea,"

"Kyoya, you like to spoil me,"

Kyoya blushed a darker shade of red.

"What about transport,"

"Victor is coming with one of the more discrete cars, and He'll pick you up around the corner, and I'll switch cars two blocks from here,"

"Well thought through,"

Honey decided to run up to her.

"Haru-chan,"

Thankfully she was pretty flexible and had some muscle from self-defence with Kyoya.

"Hey, Haru-chan do you want to go have some cake with me,"

"Thanks, but I don't really like cake,"

"Then how would you like to hold my bunny Usa-chan,"

"I'm not into bunnies,"

"You're saying you don't like Usa-chan,"

"Ah,"

The bunny seemed to bush well. Haruhi looked at him.

"I guess he is kinda cute,"

Honey had an expression that showed he realized the actual gender of Haruhi. Another light bulb lit up.

"Take good care of him, okay," said Honey as he jumped back onto the couch and into a client's lap.

"We use the host's unique personalities to cater to Customers' tastes,"

"Ah, so how many customers do you usually get,"

Kyoya blushed at that implication.

"You're the only one that ever sees me like that; not even the hosts have seen me like that,"

Kyoya was talking about how he was a sweet and lovable guy that loved cuddles.

"Oh, Kyoya, you'll get your hugs later,"

Kyoya blushes some more, looking away again.

"Tamaki holds the top spot though around here; he is the so-called king and is requested 70% of the time,"

"I figured as much,"

"And I'm sorry to say this, but you'll have to be the Ouran host clubs errand boy until I can get you out of it; by the way, did you get your passport renewed,"

"Yes,"

Tamaki Came by, not hearing anything Kyoya said, probably something about Fujioka's debt, not to run away because of his family's private police force and asked if he had a passport which he probably didn't. Tamari was so wrong.

"You're going to have to work hard to pay off that debt, my little nerd,"

Tamari blew on "his" neck, and Haruhi squealed and jumped.

"Hahaha, please don't do that again,"

"You need a makeover, or no girl is going to look twice at you,"

"Yeah, well, I'm not trying to get girls to look at me,"

"Are you kidding me? That's the most important thing you have to learn to be a gentleman and please the ladies like me,"

"I just don't think it's all that important,"

Tamari was taken aback by "his" words.

"Why should I care about appearances and labels anyway? I mean, all that matters is what's on the inside. I don't understand why you have a host club like this,"

"It's a cruel reality. Isn't it that often that God creates a perfect person like moi, beautiful both inside and out,"

"Say what,"

"I understand how you feel since not everyone is blessed as I am, but you must console yourself otherwise; how will you go on living and think about this, Haruhi? Why do you think they put works of art in museums because beauty should be shared with the world and those born beautiful...."

Haruhi couldn't take anymore and just zoned him out. There was one word I couldn't put my finger on. She wished she could remember. Tamaki then started talking about manners and niceties to impress the ladies. Maybe a pain in the neck. No, there is something that fits him perfectly.

"But above all else, Haruhi, you must remember how effective a glance to the side can be,"

Haruhi made the gesture of figuring out her plight about him.

"I got it...."

"Oh, did I strike a chord,"

"...obnoxious,"

Once the words were out of her mouth, Tamaki froze like a statue. Paling, he had curled up in a pit of his depression.

"I'm sorry, Tamaki-senpai,"

"Hahaha," laughed the twins.

"You're a hero, alright...."

"Ah huh,"

But he is a pain in the neck, thought Haruhi with a pained expression.

"I'm sorry, senpai, but your lesson did strike a small chord with me,"

And like a flower reblooming after a cold and cruel winter, Tamaki flowered again, reappearing as himself.

"It did let me teach you more, my friend,"

"Well, he got over that quick,"

"Boss?"

"Call me King,"

"You can teach him all the basics of hosting,"

"But he's not going to get very fair with the ladies if he doesn't look the part; you know he's not exactly host club material, but.." said Hikaru as he turned and began to take off "his" glasses, "maybe if we took off his glasses it'd help,"

"Hey, I need those. I used to have contacts, but I lost them on the first day of school,"

Tamaki came storming up behind the twins, pushing them both out of the way.

"Huh,"

Tamaki snapped his fingers.

"Hikaru, Karuo,"

"Got it," saluted the Twins.

The Twins grabbed Haruhi's wrists and raced her off in a cloud of smoke.

"Kyoya, my hair stylist, Mori Senpai, go to the eye doctor and get him some contact lenses,"

Kyoya dialled the number, and Mori ran off to do as Tamaki said.

"What about me, Tama-Chan,"

"Honey-senpai,"

"Yes, sir,"

"You go have some cake,"

Honey got a bit depressed.

"It's just us, Usa-Chan everyone else said they were too busy,"

*With Haruhi and the Twins*

They drew back the curtain and held out a uniform.

"Here, change into this uniform,"

"WHAT but why,"

"Don't ask questions," said the twins as they jumped on top of "him" to help "him" change.

They started chanting change, and Haruhi gave up.

"Alright, fine, I'll change, but you two have to get out,"

Haruhi tossed them both out. With them thrown out, they realized the truth about Haruhi. Two more light bulbs lit up.

*later*

It was now way past the end of club hosting time, and Honey was sighing satisfyingly with over a dozen plates beside him. The curtain was still drawn, and Haruhi was still behind it.

"Umm, senpai,"

"Aren't you done changing yet,"

Haruhi drew back the curtain to reveal her cuteness in a boy's uniform.

"Are you sure that it's okay for me to keep this uniform,"

Tamaki starts to cry.

"Cute, your as pretty as a girl, adorable,"

"Haru-chan, you look so cute,"

"If we had known that's how you looked...."

"We would have helped you out sooner,"

"Who knows, maybe he'll draw in some customers,"

"You know, that's just what I was thinking; our errand boy is moving up the ranks starting today; you're an official host club member. I'll personally train you to be a first-rate host if you can get one hundred customers to request your service, we will completely forget about your eight million yen debt,"

"A host,"

With that, Haruhi became a host.

"Well, that's it for today. Will see you tomorrow,"

Everyone left.

*at Kyoya and Haruhi meeting spot*

Kyoya opened the door to his car.

"Hop in,"

"Thanks for giving me a ride Kyoya,"

"Your welcome, Haruhi,"

"You must be exhausted,"

"Yes, dealing with that fool Tamaki is a mess,"

Haruhi patted her lap for him to lay his head on her lap. She knew even if it was much more manageable, he still got motion sick. Without complaints, Kyoya laid down his head, and Haruhi began running her fingers through his hair.

"I own you quite a bit for dealing with Tamaki,"

"Yes, but that can wait for another day; you're tired; I can cash that in on the weekend,"

Kyoya just nodded and snuggled into her lap as he was southed into a light sleep. Haruhi smiled as he fell asleep thankful to have met him that day.
