Chapter 21 - Chapter 21

Diana looked at her phone and just as she had hoped it was a text from Tina. She had wished that she would have called her, but she knew that was asking a lot and even if she had called her with the two guys, she knew that she couldn't talk to her freely. Not that she knew what to say to her at this point. She was still trying to decide what to tell her about coming back and the thing that they thought was in the car or she had with her.

That made her wonder if it was something that her dad gave her and told her to hide so that they would not get it. Did she know all about this already?

She hated the thought that she had just been left behind as the sacrificial lamb for the slaughter and was now just finding out about it. She was not sure if Tina had it in her heart to do that because of everything but she doubted that Sam would have set her up like that.

Diana opened her text and read it quickly and from the sounds of everything she didn't sound like she knew anything about having anything extra with her. That she was hiding, but it was not like she would go out of her way to mention that she was hiding things and that she was purposely screwing her over. The worst part of the text was it looked like she was not intending to be coming back anytime soon, or for that matter, it didn't sound like she was planning to come back ever.

That was the part that she figured was coming but really didn't want to face. She wondered if she let her know that there was something in the car that she needed, or the company needed or was looking for she might.

Then she thought if she looked and found it, she doubted that she would drive to bring it back she would probably just drop it off to be mailed to her. That would take off a little of the stress from her, but the leader was saying that they wanted her back as well.

Diana thought what if she knew that it was there and she was hiding it then she would be letting her know that someone was aware that not only it was missing that they were thinking that she had it.

Diana was torn at that thought in some ways she would want to let her know to be aware that she could have people looking for her but at the same time, she was thinking that if she was leaving her to take all the blame and punishment that she was wanting her to get caught. But the whole thing was how do you ask her without just coming out and saying it, especially with the two guys watching her every move and listening to every word she said.

They both were looking over her shoulder the whole time that she was on the phone and when Dave saw that it was Tina, he snatched the phone from her hand so that he could see the message and he read it over carefully to try and see if there were any hidden messages in it or if there was any clue to her location.

Diana was not happy about him snatching the phone out of her hand without asking but she knew that she was not going to be able to complain about it, but he could have at least let her read the message first. Before grabbing it out of her hand.

Dave took his time looking at her but even after looking at it and reading through it several times, he could not find any hidden message or even any type of clue to her location.

Ron said, "Go ahead and give it back there is nothing hidden in it. June, go ahead and send something. Telling her that you need her to call you over."

Dave gave Ron a dirty look like I was not done exanimating it as he handed the phone back to Diana and simply said, "Here."

Diana could tell just how young and rude Dave was, but she could see that Ron was more in charge, and she could also see that Dave wanted to be the one leading.

Diana knew that if she wanted to mess with them and get them to turn on each other. All that she would have to do was to question who was in charge and play them against each other based on that. Diana took the phone and sarcastically said, "Thanks."

She wanted to say a lot more but bit her tongue just to keep things on the happy side. She knew that she needed them both on her side if there was any chance for her to live through this.

Dave rolled his eyes he could tell that she was being sarcastic, but he really didn't care. They were told mostly just to watch her and stay out of the way. But the ultimate goal was to get the girl back home, and the device back into their possession. Dave was not sure what it did, but he knew that part didn't really matter. All that mattered to him is that he did a good job, and didn't miss anything, or mess this up. He wanted the promotion and was not going to let this stand in the way of getting it.

Ron saw the look that he gave her and just shook his head and thought that he needed to grow up a little. It was not like he was wrong to get the phone from her, but he could have asked her to hand it to him and he could have let her read the whole thing before taking it.

Diana wanted to correct them both on what to call her she was tired of being called by her sister's name, but she knew that she was just going to have to keep it the way it was at least, for now. The Leader and everyone else believed that she was her sister June. So, she was just going to have to deal with it. The top people at the company know that she is who she is, but she is not allowed to tell anyone else. Diana had thought about going to the police at one time when it first came up but seeing how the company just made everything disappear the way that they did make her quickly change her mind. Knowing that they could just do the same to her, no one else would come asking around to find out why or that it even happened.

Diana looked over at Ron, she was not exactly sure what to write. Especially knowing that no matter what she put they were going to read it. She knew that she was going to have to write something to her that was sugar-sweet and make it sound like she is devastated without her here and that she was really missing her every minute.

The main thing was she was going to have to hide all the things that Sam had blurted out on his death bed and knowing that was a lot of what was driving Tina away. She realized that she shouldn't have been that blunt with Tina when she explained it to her, but it had been so long in coming and she was so overwhelmed with what was going on with Sam it all just slipped out.

Diana knew that she could send her an open apology for a lot of things without it saying all the details saying that she just needed her to come back. The more she thought about it the more she knew that was going to be the only hope she had in trying to get the girl back on her own. Diana knew that the Leader said that he was going to give her time to convince her to come back, but he never told her how long he was going to give her. Diana doubted that the time would be much over a couple of days if he even waited that long.

Diana thought that he might have just said that just so that if Tina contacted her, she would try and convince her to come back on her own.

The more that Diana thought about what to write the more she knew that she was not going to be able to make it short. If they were best friends then something like that might have worked, but since they are the way that they are. She knew that the better option was to let her know all the things that are going on and all the work that needs to be done. The fact that she needs to be here for the funerals. Not just her father's, she needed to be her for Ken's as well. She figured that she could offer her some support to help her get through it all and that things could be different and a lot better between them.

The longer it got the better Diana felt like this was supposed to be. Diana realized that if she could get her talking to her a lot more than if she needed to slip something in to let her know the true things that are going on then it would be harder for anyone else to figure out what she was doing.

Not that she knew that she was going to have to do that, but she knew if it was needed and she had not prepared. Then there would be no way that she could other than do it bluntly and get caught doing it. That made her think harder about what she really felt for the child. Diana flashed on all the loving hugs and kisses that Tina had tried to give her through the years. It did affect her, but she still didn't know if she could, or would do something that would get her hurt, or killed to save her.

Diana was glad that she was not being asked to do it at this time. She hoped that she would be able to figure out something before it was time, But truth be told she was hoping that it would never come up. She really didn't want to make that kind of decision.

Diana looked at the two of them and said, "Well we might as well go. I can do this while we are eating. It is going to take some time to word everything the right way."

Dave opened his mouth and started to say, "We..."

When Diana cut him off and said, "Of course, I know you will have to read it before I send it."

A smile came to Ron's face as he looked away so that the others would not see him laughing. Dave on the other hand shot her a death look for her cutting him off. It didn't matter that they all knew what he was going to say, he didn't like her cutting him off. That was the reason that Ron was cracking up.

Diana saw that it was causing some friction so she changed the subject quickly by saying, "We can take my car. I'll drive to all the places that we are going to have to go and if anyone asks, I will just say that you are both out-of-state cousins that are visiting while I need the help. Is That okay?"

Ron thought about it and said, "Okay that will work."

It was not perfect because if she tried to give them the slip and managed to succeed then they would have no way to go after her. It was not like she was likely to run but if they were caught off guard then he said, "I have a better idea since someone has to be there to monitor you one of us will ride with you and the other will follow and wait in the car."

Diana looked at Ron and smiled at the quick thought of her being alone with him and then she looked at Dave and the smile faded because she knew at least at times she was going to have to be alone with him as well.

Dave had not noticed her face when he said that, but Ron was very aware of what she was doing. Ron just shook his head at the thoughts and asked, "Do you want to ride with her today?"

Diana thought (please no) say that you would rather follow. She made sure that she didn't say a word out loud, but she could not help the expression that was shown on her face for anyone that knew what to look for.

Since Dave had been looking at Ron and trying to decide what he was going to do he hadn't noticed a thing, but Ron did and he had to fight back a smile.

It really didn't matter to Ron what he did, and he knew that Dave got off on making all the decisions and just made his life easier to let him do most of them. At least till it came to the big important ones but most of them were made by higher-ups and then they just followed the orders.

Dave liked the thought of being there to make sure that she was not able to get or send any messages, but he knew that Ron would do the same thing, it was not like he was not going to do his job. But he didn't really care for the music that she listened to so he thought that it would be better for Ron to ride with her, and he could just keep a close eye on them from the car. Dave said, "I'll just follow today."

Ron shrugged his shoulders in a sign that he didn't care one way or the other and said, "Okay. Let's go."

They were on their way to the door when Diana's phone went off with another text.
