Chapter 27 - Chapter 27

Dave looked over at Ron and thought what is this lady going to spend all day on the phone? Damn, we are never going to get to eat. Diana looked down at the phone and was hoping to see that it was Tina trying to contact her or even one of her close friends that would be telling her something about Tina. But it was an unfamiliar number, it was not like she had not seen the number before, but it was definitely one that she did not remember to whom it belonged. She looked at the number on the phone and it did look somewhat familiar like she had seen it before, but she had called so many people trying to get a hold of Tina. She was not sure if it was one of them. Diana held up a finger letting the guys know that she was going to answer it, but she was only going to spend one minute on the phone talking to them.

Dave rolled his eyes knowing that there was no woman that was only going to talk for just one minute. Ron shot him a dirty look like behave just like he would have to a child that was doing something that he was displeased with. Dave saw him and just blew it off, it was not like he had to answer to Ron anyway. They had moved in close to Diana to read what she was getting and sending in the texts. At this point, Diana wished that she had added all the names of the people that she had texted into her contact lists so that she could tell who this was.

As Diana read the incoming texts it didn't look like it was going to matter who it was because it looked like all they wanted to do was chit-chat. She was one of Tina's old friends that had moved away, and she was more trying to get information on Tina and how to contact her than giving anything. Once that Diana saw that it was not Tina or anyone that was going to give her any information that she was going to be able to use she said, "Okay we can go this is just one of Tina's old friends and she knows nothing."

Diana saw Dave roll his eyes and she could tell that he really didn't care, once he found out that whoever it was, was not going to be giving him any information that he was going to be able to use to track down Tina. Diana herself was not interested in it at that point either, but she could tell how rude Dave was and she knew that he was only going to get worse.

Diana looked at them and asked, "Are we ready to go?" as she put on a huge fake smile trying to act as nice as she could.

Dave looked at her and returned a snarl as he shook his head, he was not buying the smile for a minute. Ron gave her a smile in return as he answered for both of them, by saying, "Let's go."

Dave was glad to be away from both of them for a while. He could just chill as he drove and followed them. He had been on his own most of his life and was happier that way. Not that he didn't date now and then, it was just that he was happier when he was just left alone. To do what he wanted, when he wanted to do it. He had not been with Ron all that long and he was still trying to get used to being part of a team. There were some aspects that were better than being alone, but most of the time it was just a drag. Either waiting on the other guy or having to clear everything with him before he did it. He was looking forward to the day that he was in charge of everything where he would pick and choose what he was going to do and who he was going to work with.

Ron saw that Dave was cheering up as they left and got into the cars, he was thinking it was going to be good for Dave to be by himself for a while. He had noticed that the kid needed alone time to keep his emotions in check. Ron just shook his head and hoped that Dave would grow up a little or get off the steroids or at least back off them so that they wouldn't affect his mood so much. He felt that things would get better as he matured at least they did for him once he reached the size that he had been shooting for.

Ron looked over at June and she was dressed all in black which he was expecting, but he was not expecting her to be in a low-cut short dress. He had not really noticed her before, because he knew that Dave was going to be watching his every move just like always. He always felt like Dave was just trying to get something on him to advance his own career. Dave didn't like the fact that even though they were more or less at the same level they would always rely on his reports more than the ones that Dave would provide. They would send the orders through Ron making him repeat them to Dave which seemed to piss him off a little every time.

Ron took a long look at her as they walked to the car and with the smile that she was giving him that he was not expecting out of a new widow. He thought that all that a new widow would be doing was crying, but he guessed that it would have to do with how much they cared about the one that they were married to. After all some plan for their husband's death, and he didn't think that those would cry all that much unless it was fake and for show.

As he looked into her eyes, he could see that the smile that she had on her face was fake. Her eyes showed how much pain she was really in and then he wondered just how much of what she was doing was just because she was scared of what they were going to do to her. As he thought about it, part of what she had on didn't really match just why did she have on the sexy dress? Was she trying to seduce him, or was it just that she didn't have all that many black dresses? After all her husband had a sudden death. Most women don't plan on having that many dresses for all the mourning that they will be doing. He thought that he had to check out her closet sometime just to see if he could tell what she was doing. He knew that even if he did that, he probably would not understand what was going on in her head.

As she started the car Ron could see the expression on her face change as she thought about what she was going to be doing after breakfast was over. She sat there for a long minute as the music played at first, he didn't understand and just as he was about to ask if she was okay, he noticed that she had tears streaming down her cheeks. He realized that the song that was playing on the radio had to have some special meaning to her as she had frozen and all she could do was listen and cry.

Knowing how impatient Dave was, Ron knew that he was going to have to do something, either he was going to have to get her moving or he was going to have to do the driving for her. Ron reached over and touched her hand lightly and that made her jump and brought her back to reality from the past moment that she was reliving in her mind. Diana wiped away the tears and said, "I'm sorry it was just that song..."

She trailed off not wanting to say anymore but she really didn't have to they both knew that it had brought up memories from her past that she was still trying to face. She turned to look at Ron and gave him another weak smile to show that she had herself under control again and headed to the restaurant. Ron was glad when that song had ended and even though she was not exactly acting like she had before she was acting better than when it was playing.

Dave was just sitting there with the car running waiting for them to move. He could not believe that it was taking so long as he sat there. He had been ready to eat for over an hour, and he was really starting to get annoyed with her. He was not used to someone that was not ready when he was, and he found it very annoying that she was so slow. As he sat there watching they were just sitting there, and he had watched as she had started the car, but they still were not moving. He started to wonder just what the problem was. As he looked, he could not tell just what they were doing. It looked like they were just sitting there. He looked as close as he could, and he didn't even see their mouths moving to indicate that they were talking. It did not make sense to him, and he was about to honk his horn, but he knew that he shouldn't do that. He was supposed to follow in silence so as not to be observed by anyone.

Dave was relieved to see that the rearview lights came on and the car started backing out he figured that he was finally going to be getting his breakfast. Dave wondered why they were even treating her like she was likely to run. For the life of him, he thought that she was the most unlikely person in the world to try that on them. But as he followed, he knew why they had to keep it this way, and it was better to have just one of them around her at a time. When they both were with her it did tend to draw attention to their presence.

Dave was glad to be away from them both for a while even if he couldn't tell just what was going on. He knew that he had been around her enough to tell all she was going to be doing was crying over her dead husband and shaking in her boots every time she looked at them. It was not like he didn't like the feeling of power that he got when he was intimidating someone, he loved moving in close just to watch them back up and back down. Although he had to admit it was not as fun when the other person was already scared and in tears, and so afraid that they couldn't even talk to him without peeing themselves.

Just looking at the two of them together made him glad he had chosen to stay away from them and just watch. The last thing he wanted to do for the week was listen to her balling and her music. He didn't know why he was feeling so hostile toward the two of them. But he knew that once he is away from them and he gets something to eat he will not find them as annoying, at least for a while that is.

Dave had already decided that he was going to stop somewhere else to get something to eat. He was just going to pull through a drive-through and eat it in the car. That would make it easier for him to keep an eye on everything and not have to listen to her for a while.

He knew just where they were going to go to sit and eat. He made sure that once he had gotten the food he parked in a place where he could see everyone going in and out of the place whether it was through the front or back doors. He was glad that the back door was actually on the side of the building making it easy to see them both at the same time.

As the two of them walked into the restaurant Ron gave a nod to Dave letting him know that he was in a good place, and he knew where he was just in case.

Diana didn't care where he was sitting since she knew that he was going to be out there. Not to mention that he had been giving her so many dirty looks since she had started answering her phone and it was starting to get to her a little. They both had to know that was the only way that she was going to find out where Tina went. She knew that she had way too many other things to think about and she was just glad that he was out of the way.

As they walked through the door there was a sudden crash of dishes hitting the floor.
