The winery building was designed in a traditional countryside design on the outside, with refined iron walls, large windows and a refined iron roof that was translucent to let in the sunlight for the berries to grow. Each type of berry had its own section, with numbered barrels made of ent wood, that helped to age the wine naturally, yet faster.
The fragrance of the wines spread through the whole building, filling it with a refreshing smell. It's been so long since I last tasted aged wine...
"Are you sure they will let us buy from here directly?" Tommy asked, blinking in Morse code, trying to tell me about his concern about our fake identities getting exposed in case the vamps followed us.
That was indeed something to be concerned about; after all, they are in the dark while we walk in the light. The information we have on them is limited to their lower-ranked crew members. They could be watching us right now and we wouldn't even know anything.
"I hope they do," I answered, walking ahead of him to talk to a staff.
The workers and staff members wore hair covers on their heads and fully sanitised clothing with shoe covers, rubber gloves and masks on their faces.
"Hello there, I am looking to buy a few barrels of wine. Can I please speak to your manager?" Tommy asked, walking up to one of the staff members.
"You... Uh, want to buy barrels? That is a special request, I can send it to you in a few hours if you give me the address," the male staff said, looking a bit confused with our sudden order, certainly not prepared to have any guests.
"Don't bother, we will take it with us from here. Just show him where we can do the transaction, and I will get the barrels," I said.
"Right this way, Ellias! Show this gentleman to the storage!" the staff called out.
As soon as he called out the name, a young boy with pale skin and red eyes came running towards us and stopped right in front of the staff member, he wore the same clothing that the staff had, just a bit smaller.
"You have kids here?" I asked in a sarcastic tone.
"He is a volunteer worker, helps us out a lot," the staff member said. "He will take you to the storage room."
The boy didn't speak; he looked a bit nervous as if he wanted to ask something but couldn't. I quietly followed behind him as well, thinking that he might not be able to say anything because of someone's presence.
"Do you want to say something?" I asked him after we had gone inside the hallway and made sure there wasn't anyone around us.
"I-I wasn't expecting anyone to stop by our winery to buy directly from here, that's all," the kid said, nervously.
"Well, you have to blame the FBI for not allowing us to drink wine on duty," I complained.
"You are from the FBI?" the kid asked, looking at me with bright eyes. "Is it fun to be in the FBI?"
"Hah! Fun? You will find out that there is way more to that job than fun; it's dangerous, that's what it is," I laughed a bit.
"Then why do you do it? Why do you have to be an FBI agent?" the kid asked curiously.
"I wonder that sometimes but someone has to do it, if it's not me, then maybe someone else," I explained with a smile on my face on accident.
For a second I had forgotten about my disguise and reverted back to my original personality. Sometimes distractions like these are dangerous, why am I even talking to this kid... Something... Something is strange.
This kid, something is strange with this kid.
'Ryuk? Are you there?' I asked, but received no reply from him, which confirmed my suspicions.
"So, where is the room?" I asked, keeping up my act.
"Right here," the kid pointed towards the barrel room.
Ok, let's see what you prepared for me... That's what you think I would do right? Yeah no, too much trouble.
Bang
I grabbed his head from behind his back and pressed him down to the ground, and said, "Listen here, you little shit if you wanna test your powers on somebody, do that on someone who isn't me."
"Took you long enough, but did you need to do that to a kid?" Ryuk commented.
'The kid you are talking about tried to use illusion magic on me, the strange thing is he isn't the illusionist I researched about. He might be a rookie,' I explained. "I am gonna arrest you and then I am gonna take my wine and head out. Then I am gonna interrogate you, or I might just hand you over to the best interrogator I know, but you would seriously not want that, so do cooperate."
"You know, I don't think he can talk by the way you are holding him," Ryuk stated.
"Oh... Right... I think he passed out," I said, holding him up by the collar. "Those two will probably be pissed at me if I bring back a kid. Should I prepare a script? Fuck it, I want my wine, all I wanted was my wine, why does everything go wrong at the critical moment?"
Bang Crack
I punched a hole in the ground in anger, hurting my hand in the process, which regenerated in an instant and got up, heading inside the room with the boy hanging from my hand as I dragged him by the collar.
The storage room was filled with different types of wines, arranged perfectly in an alphabetical order.
"Wally take as much as you can," I commanded, following which Wally appeared in his visible form and stored one barrel from each section in his storage. "Didn't I ask you to store as much as possible?"
"Addiction to wine is bad for your health," Wally replied.
"Ok, too much compassion I assume, gonna have to fix that later," I stated.
