Night fell soon enough as I spent my time thinking about how to explain myself to Sylvia. Tommy wasn't hard to deal with but Sylvia on the other hand could detect my lies... Now I could phase my heart to counter that ability of her but that would make her suspicious of me. Man, I hate lie detectors and mind readers.
"Didn't you say that you already planned what to tell her?" Ryuk sneered.
'Women are difficult to deal with, especially Syl. She isn't someone who cannot spot an obvious excuse,' I replied.
"Why are you both quiet all of a sudden?" Sylvia asked.
"Should I explain it or..?" Tommy looked at me, giving me a hand sign.
"What are you two mumbling about?" Sylvia looked at both of us, eyes filled with doubt.
"So the thing is...-"
"I didn't expect to see the both of you here," a voice came from behind me, cutting me off at the right moment.
As the three of us turned around to see who it was, I was surprised to find Roger standing behind us with his group of lackeys. I was so distracted in my thoughts that I failed to notice who they were.
"I am Roger Silverheart, I believe you have heard of me. Mr Wayne, I believe we got off on the wrong foot, for my apology-" Roger bowed slightly, putting his right hand on his left. "I brought you an Orange zone."
Everyone around us was shocked to see him handing over the rights of an Orange zone so easily, although most of them were nobles, none of them could easily buy or sell the rights of a high-ranked zone so easily. Having complete control over a zone was enough to make someone a noble.
'Is my life worth that much?' Tom thought to himself.
'Don't take the bait, it's a trap,' I warned Tommy with a telepathic message.
'How did you?' Tommy tried to ask but I cut him off.
'I will explain it later on, do what I tell you to,' I said.
Tom walked up and stood in front of Roger, before putting his hands on his shoulders and raising him.
"You don't need to do that, my friend. I understand that the demon had messed with our minds, it was but a small misunderstanding. Don't worry about it, your gift is not something the likes of me could receive," Tommy blurted out with a smile on his face.
What the fuck? Was the thought that was written on everyone's faces.
A person like Tom who didn't show proper etiquette in the elimination exams was acting like a gentleman all of a sudden? That was completely unexpected.
"Did you do something?" Sylvia whispered while lightly jabbing me on my right arm.
"Just watch the show," I whispered back, smiling in my mind.
"It seems that I had misinterpreted the situation back then, but even if you don't accept it, I wish you and I could fight side by side shortly. Let the bygones be bygones," Roger said, presenting his hand forward for a shake. 'Putting on a show in front of everyone to ruin my image, huh?'
"Of course, something as light as that can't possibly ruin the ties between two comrades," Tom replied, shaking hands with Roger. 'Just you wait you son of a bitch...'
'I will end (kill) you soon enough.' both of them thought simultaneously.
"Well then, I shall take my leave now, Mr Wayne, Mr Allen and Miss Zor El. I am sorry I didn't have time to chat with you today," Roger slightly bowed once again before turning around. "I believe we will see each other soon enough."
"What the fuck was that?" Tom asked, after sitting down.
"Basic telepathy, by forming an invisible connection between the neurons, I can transmit my thoughts directly to your mind though my beautiful gadget here," I said, showing off my TWG to him.
"And apparently he made it to not visit a doctor ever again," Sylvia added. "He hates doctors."
"I don't hate them, I just... Yeah I hate them," I corrected myself.
"Wait a minute, you said something about a trap, right? Was the Orange zone the trap you mentioned?" Tom asked.
"Yes, he was trying to give you the ownership of a mid level zone to not only mend the relationship between the both of you in front of the public, but also to pull over the greedy students to his side. After all, once he establishes a contract with all of the useful students, the zones wouldn't even matter much.
How many students do you think are talented enough to clear one on their own? Those students who establish a contract with Roger are bound to need his support. He is a sly fox...
Even if you have took the gift, nothing would have changed. However, if both of you were to fight before the public, he would get a reason to stop the fight. You on the other hand would just look bad in front of everyone, ruining your image in the process," I explained.
"I hate nobles..." Tom sighed in response. "I never expected there to be such a disadvantage in a simple gift."
"There are many things that are difficult for people like us to understand," Sylvia added. "There is a reason why they are the geniuses."
"Try managing thirty one different companies and you will be able to call yourself a genius," I replied. "Hard work is a more preferable word in my opinion."
"Anyways what were you going to tell me?" Sylvia asked.
The nervousness hit me back once again.
"Ray! There you are!" another voice came from my back interrupting me once again. This voice however was unlike the previous one that was filled with malice, this voice was purely filled with happiness.
"Sam, my good friend how have you been?" I asked, while turning around and quickly rushing off to him. "Let's talk while we walk, I believe we have a lot to talk about."
'I have never been happier for your timely appearance, I guess I will torture you less than I had planned,' I thought.
