Volume 7 Chapter 9: The Hoarse-Voiced Rabbit Bard
(Walson)
Our available fighting strength has increased as Krista has joined our side.
Flame, Water, Earth, Forest, and Light—now we have five Vassals on our team. This is a good thing, as our enemy is an unknown force, and fierce battles are inevitable.
However, three of them are members of the Mutual Aid Association.
To be honest, I really don't want to get involved with them, but unfortunately, I have no choice.
After all, both Belle and Krista have already signed the Milky Way Treaty and are part of the Golden Apple Ring.
Vassals are still a very mysterious presence in this world, so when our group is all together, it's not really appropriate to stay in public places. So, we moved inside the Red Mushroom House.
"I mean, how did this axe break like this? The damage is pretty severe." I said, pulling hard on the axe handle with both hands, finally managing to move it only a short distance.
Even though the Anti-Melon Spear Prototype 1.0 is made entirely of Orihalcum—while I can't use it, I can at least carry it. But with this double-headed axe, just dragging it by the handle is my limit. How heavy is this thing?
This double-headed axe is entirely bone-white, made of bone material. The handle is over two meters long, and the double-edged head is unusually large and incredibly heavy—I can't lift it at all.
The design is bizarre, with no regard for balance, purely pursuing the ultimate destructive power from sheer weight.
No ordinary person could wield this.
As for the damage I mentioned, the axe blade is shattered to pieces—it's hard to imagine what kind of battle caused this.
"That snow elf is stronger than the last time we met. I didn't expect things to turn out like this either." Krista sat backward on her chair, gripping the backrest with both hands, watching me work with interest, smoke rings drifting from the pipe in her mouth.
"Snow elf?" I examined the giant axe closely.
Its appearance was simple, not looking like any sort of artifact. If I had to point out a feature, it's that Krista's name is carved into the blade. Uh...
Imagine a red-haired rabbit woman in a leather cloak wearing a skull mask, swinging a giant battle axe into a crowd, cutting enemies in half, their blood staining her name red.
Wow, though her personality is intense, that's pretty terrifying.
"Yeah, the Dawn Hunters I blocked for you last time—the snow elf Kediss. Her Prototype Entity is a Stray. Whenever she appears, she brings a blizzard with her. Oh, and because of our battle, the labyrinth city suffered considerable damage. I wonder if the repairs are finished."
Wait, so the sudden blizzard when we left the labyrinth city was because of this!?
A Stray Skeleton reincarnate with the power to create such climate disasters!?
I had heard from Alice about the city becoming a land of ice and fire afterward. So that was the result of Krista's battle with that snow elf... Fire versus ice—geez, are you two Akainu and Aokiji?
"Uh, well, thank you for that," I said.
"Just doing my job. Part of why the snow elf came after you was because I led her your way. But enough about that." Krista waved her pipe around. "So, how's my axe? Can you fix it?"
She brought the conversation back to the weapon.
"I'd recommend making a new one. The damage is really severe." I set the axe down, dusting off my hands.
"Can't fix it, huh? I thought if anyone could, it'd be you." Krista sighed, blowing out a smoke ring. "Oh well, it's still usable for now."
"I never said I couldn't." I shrugged. "Alright, I'll fix it, and I'll even upgrade it a bit."
"Thanks. How much do I owe you?"
"Nothing. Consider it a return favor." I replied.
A fierce battle is coming up soon, so this isn't the time to haggle over these things.
Since we're both reincarnates with special abilities, I've got no reason to hold back—fulfilling my duty as the village craftsman is my responsibility.
"Eh? I thought I'd have to sleep with you or something to pay you."
"Hey!? Where did that idea come from?"
"Belle told me." Krista shrugged, puffing on her pipe.
"That jerk!"
"Zakarina also said you're a pervert who forcibly kissed her." Krista said as she sized me up and down, rubbing her chin. "For a dwarf, you're quite capable."
... Should I feel glad she didn't accuse me of being a goblin?
"That was a misunderstanding! I only did it to save her."
"Forcing kisses to save the world, gathering wives throughout your journey... Hmm, I like this idea. Hey, you've given me some inspiration. Let me, a part-time bard, compose a song about it."
Krista removed her pipe, exhaled a smoke ring, and after a few coughs, began to sing.
A part-time bard, huh?
Come to think of it, she was singing when she showed up earlier this morning.
Speaking of bards, aren't they the ones who sing about the hero's deeds by a fountain in the park...
"Once there was a dwarf ♫—he was a happy goblin ♫, kissed the maid ♫—and punched the lizard lady fighter ♫"
"Enough! Shut up!"
