Volume 7 Chapter 10: The Master and Slave Who Never Changed
(Walson)
A bone-made axe... the blade is severely damaged, seemingly from some external force. Without replacing parts, the only way to fix it might be through crafting, like in Minecraft.
The highest-quality materials I have on hand are Orichalcum steel, obsidian, and some holy silver I scraped off Belle's Oathkeeper — X Curry Stick.
After my analysis, I finally understood why the front end of this bone giant axe is so heavy—there's a mysterious iron ball, engraved with runes, embedded inside the front.
Apparently, it was inlaid during its creation.
After having Grace take a look, it was confirmed to be a magical rune for manipulating gravity.
Manipulating gravity, huh... Now that I think about it, Zakarina mentioned her Vassal of The Earth also involved gravity manipulation. Plus, besides being a reincarnated Silverfish, she's also a dwarf... I have a strong feeling this weapon's creation has a lot to do with that ill-tempered maid.
In any case, setting aside the gravity-manipulating iron ball, the bone axe itself is quite lightweight. Without changing its balance, I decided to use obsidian as the main material for the repair.
First, I performed a synthesis, and then I placed it in the furnace for re-smelting, completing the restoration of the giant axe.
With that, my commission was fulfilled.
But just fixing it seemed too plain, not my style...
Since she'll soon be fighting alongside us, adding a little something extra shouldn't be a problem, right?
I enchanted it with three books: Flame II, Sharpness V, and Knockback I.
Flame II adds a burning effect to attacks, which should pair well with her being a fire familiar. The effect of Sharpness V is obvious, so I won't elaborate. As for Knockback I, it gives a small knockback effect during attacks.
Considering a giant axe is a mid-range weapon, having enemies too close isn't ideal.
Level 2 knockback would send them flying too far, so I chose this one.
Alright, done!
What was the name of this axe again? Krista didn't seem to mention it.
I put it into the inventory and checked the item name... Uh, it's called Krista.
Seriously? The axe has the same name as her—just how much does she enjoy soaking her name in the blood of her enemies!?
I decided not to comment any further, feeling too drained to continue.
Having completed the crafting work, night had fallen, and the street lights flickered on once again.
The Red Mushroom Village, filled with adventurers, didn't quiet down.
On the contrary, the drinking adventurers shouted, and bards sang, as an impromptu party started in the open dining area of the inn.
Uncle Orc roared with laughter, holding Miss Jesvi in one arm and hoisting the little bandit on his shoulder, watching the bard's performance... It's a wholesome family scene!
Grace, Resa, Barella, and Belle were also outside enjoying the lively atmosphere—No wonder the house had been so quiet for so long.
Only now did I realize I tend to lose myself when I start crafting—an old habit of mine.
"Master, have you finished your work?" At that moment, I heard Melon's voice. "I've prepared some fruit for you."
When I entered the living room, the first thing I saw was Melon in her simple, elegant clothes, holding a plate neatly arranged with sliced apples.
Seeing me emerge from my room, Melon bowed respectfully and placed the plate on the table.
"Melon, why aren't you outside with the others?"
"I believe drinking would hinder my ability to serve you, my master," Melon replied.
Hearing this, I couldn't help but smile. That response was so typically Melon.
Come to think of it, I've never seen her drink. Well, there was that one time... but I don't remember what happened afterward.
Oh well. I sat down on the sofa, reaching for an apple slice, but then I noticed Melon sitting beside me, holding a slice and offering it directly to me.
"Master, say 'ah—'"
"Ah—" I obediently opened my mouth and accepted her service.
Seeing this, Melon's eyes curved into a lovely arc, and her thin lips lifted into a smile.
As I chewed the apple, I paused, slightly entranced by her beautiful smile.
"Master, you're still the same. You've always liked eating something sweet after finishing your work," Melon said, smiling.
"Uh, really?"
"Yes, like cookies, chocolate, and other treats. Whenever you created something new and delicious, it was always right after you finished making an item," Melon said.
Such keen observation—truly deserving of her ultra-dedicated maid spirit.
"That's why I say, master, you haven't changed at all." Melon said, suddenly blinking as if she'd noticed something. "Ah, master, your hair has grown again."
"Huh? Didn't I just cut it two months ago?"
"Master, two months without trimming your hair is quite a long time for a man," Melon remarked, focusing on the top of my head. As she spoke, her hands gently rubbed and ruffled my hair.
Ugh, this is kind of embarrassing—I feel like a child who hasn't grown up... But Melon seemed quite happy.
She took a clean pair of long scissors from her waist pouch, smiled at me, and said,
"Let's move to another place, master," Melon suggested, "I'll give you a proper trim."
