Chapter 17: Decision
"Do you think what that young clan leader from the Uzumaki Clan said is true?" asked one of the elders, his voice breaking the heavy silence in the room.
The others looked at one another, uncertain. The chamber, once hosted a member of Uzumaki as a guest, had fallen completely quiet after the Uzumaki Clan Leader had left with his group. The topic was too shocking and unexpected, regarding the information that Senju, Uzumaki and Uchiha is the descendant of Hagoromo Otsutsuki.
"I'm not sure," another elder responded while adjusting his yukata. "But let's not ignore the proposal, he wanted intermarriage between our clans. He's not suggesting an easy thing to do, our two clan had long been an enemy. He wants the Uchiha and the Uzumaki bloodlines to be united."
The others leaned forward slightly, now listening more intently while carresing their chin.
"Think about it," he continued. "The Sharingan, the pride of our clan, passed down from Indra Ōtsutsuki himself… and the Uzumaki bloodline, descended from Asura Ōtsutsuki, holds the strongest physical vitality and immense chakra reserves. If we combine them, it might be possible to awaken power far greater than anything we've seen in our history."
"It's tempting, no doubt," the first elder said again, this time more contemplative. "But is it really that easy? Even in Hashirama and Madara time—two of the greatest shinobi of our world, they couldn't bridge the gap between our clans through marriage or alliance. And now, a boy—young, just 16 years old, but still a boy—thinks he can succeed where they failed?"
A thoughtful silence followed. They can accept to marry two clan together, but will the other Uchiha agreed? For generations, mistrust and competition had shaped the relationship between the Uchiha and Senju, and by extension, the Uzumaki as well.
But times were changing.
The room remained quiet until Uchiha Hikaku, the current clan leader and one of the few remaining old man from the Warring States period, spoke up.
"Let's be rational," he said, folding his hands calmly on the table. "If this alliance is genuine and agreed upon, it could change our position in Konoha. Think about the potential of our descendants. Think about the strength we could pass on to the next generation. Perhaps this is an opportunity we've never dared to consider."
He looked around the room before continuing. "There are clear benefits. First, gaining access to the Uzumaki Clan's sealing techniques—one of the rarest and most valued seal in the shinobi world. Second, strengthening our bloodline and giving our children the chance to surpass anything we've seen before. And third, it might bring us closer to the political power."
After a brief pause, he added, "If you agree with this proposal, raise your hand."
There was a moment of hesitation, but slowly, deliberately, six of the seven elders raised their hands.
Only one elder remained unmoved—Uchiha Reijurou, the grandfather of Uchiha Fugaku.
He looked around at the others, his face unreadable, then finally spoke. His voice was deep and firm.
"I understand that you all want what's best for the clan, and so do I," Reijurou said. "But before we rush into this decision, we must clarify a few important things."
The others listened and Hikaku also nodded signaling him to speak more.
"First, ask Raiken directly—are they willing to teach us their sealing jutsu as part of this alliance? Sealing techniques are not something to be given freely. If this is a true partnership, there must be trust and mutual benefit."
The other elders nodded slightly at this point, seeing the logic in his words.
"Second," Reijurou continued, "if this is going to be a real alliance, the young clan leader himself, Raiken, should marry into our clan. That will serve as a symbol of goodwill and unity. It will also ensure that both clans truly invest in this future together."
"And lastly, we must ask, what surname will the children take? Will they be Uzumaki or Uchiha? That detail matters, especially when inheritance, succession, and identity are at stake."
Uchiha Hikaku gave a slow nod. "You raise valid points. I'll call Raiken again tomorrow and bring up these matters."
---Granddaughter Mikoto---
In the original timeline, Uchiha Fugaku was chosen to marry Uchiha Mikoto, a marriage arrangement decided by Uchiha Reijurou and Uchiha Hikaku themselves.
As Mikoto grandfather, Hikaku wanted only the best for her. She was his pride. The Uchiha Clan, however, traditionally never allowed women to inherit the position of clan leader. This wasn't uncommon in other clans either. In most shinobi societies, men were viewed as the preferred leaders due to their physical strength, battle prowess, and political leverage.
The exception, of course, was the Senju Clan, where the unofficial leader had long been Uzumaki Mito. She stood out not because of raw strength but due to her wisdom, political aptitude, and mastery of sealing arts. Still, with the disbandment of the Senju Clan, there was no clear precedent anymore.
As for Mikoto, she was raised with a traditional mindset. Refined, elegant, and dutiful—she was the epitome of what an ideal Uchiha woman should be. Her beauty was admired across the village, but it wasn't just her appearance. She was known for her skill in cooking, her kindness, and most importantly, her quiet loyalty. She wasn't the type to flirt or chase attention. She carried herself with dignity.
Naturally, she had become the most sought-after woman within the clan. Suitors from inside and even outside the clan dreamed of marrying her, but her status as the granddaughter of the clan leader made her unreachable for most.
After much consideration, Hikaku had narrowed down his choice to one name: Uchiha Fugaku.
Fugaku was young, disciplined, and incredibly talented. He had already shown signs of becoming one of the most capable shinobi in the clan. Politically, he had ties with the Hokage inner circle by befriending a few people outside the clan, which made him invaluable.
With Uchiha Kagami gone, someone needed to fill the role of liaison between the clan and the village especially the higher up from Hokage faction. Fugaku, calm and easy to approach, was the ideal successor to carry that responsibility.
But with the arrival of the Uzumaki Clan, everything had changed.
Hikaku questioned himself.
'Would Mikoto still marry Fugaku?'
'Or would Raiken, the unexpected clan leader of the Uzumaki, become her new suitor?'
'The next meeting would decide the future of both clans and perhaps, the future of the Hidden Leaf itself.'
He need to meet with Raiken one more time before deciding what to do in the future.
