Chapter 18: Kekkei Genkai
---Uzumaki Kekkei Genkai---
As they stepped outside the Senju residence, the three of them immediately sensed the familiar feeling, they are being watched. They had a kekkei genkai that the Uzumaki Clan had grown accustomed to, which is the ability use mind eyes.
Because of this kekei genkai, they had been known as some of the most skilled sensory ninja in the world, even surpassing the Senju in this area, it was no surprise they could detect these hidden ninja who are watching them from a tree.
The Uzumaki Clan possessed three unique kekkei genkai—abilities that were awakened through centuries of deep research into fuinjutsu.
The first was Mind Eyes, similar to the concept of Observation Haki in One Piece or Spider-Man's "spider-sense." It allowed them to instinctively sense when someone was watching them and gauge the strength of that individual based on their chakra signature.
The second was the Chakra Golden Chains, a kekkei genkai unique to the Uzumaki bloodline. These chains, born from their relentless studies in sealing techniques, manifested as powerful tools in combat and containment. Only those with red hair, a sign of strong Uzumaki blood, could awaken this power band only after studying fuinjutsu diligently.
The third and rarest was the Healing Bite. This ability allowed the user to transfer chakra through a bite to heal others. It was so rare that even Kushina Uzumaki had never awakened it.
As such, the three of them—Raiken, Kenshiro, and Hiroki—were already aware that they were being monitored the moment they exited the residence.
"They're still here. I thought they would have left by now," muttered Kenshiro.
"Don't act rashly," Raiken whispered. "They're likely here under orders from the Hokage."
The others nodded silently. Without further action, they turned and returned to the Senju Residence.
---Danzo---
The fact that the Uzumaki Clan Leader went to meet the Uchiha Clan did not escape Konoha surveillance, especially not the eyes of Root.
Both ANBU and Root had been watching closely ever since the Uzumaki entered the village.
The Uchiha political status was delicate. Ever since the death of Uchiha Kagami, Danzo had been subtly suppressing the clan, limiting their access to high-ranking missions, weakening their authority, and isolating them from village leadership.
However, this was not yet the era after the Nine-Tails attack, so Danzo had not gone as far as spreading slander or orchestrating open distrust against the Uchiha. He remained restrained—for now. The clan hadn't done anything out of line yet.
Their role as Konoha Military Police was a double-edged sword. While the position gave them official authority, it also placed a target on their back. It centralized power within one clan—a dangerous thing in any system. Even if another clan like the Nara or Aburame had taken the role, they would have been equally resented. Ideally, the police force should have been a cooperative unit involving all clans and civilians.
Now, Danzo had just received a classified report from his Root about the young clan leader of Uzumaki Clan. His expression darkened. Crumpling the scroll in his hand, he stormed toward the Hokage office.
"Hiruzen!" Danzo barked, slamming the door open without knocking.
Inside, the Hokage was already seated with Mitokado Homura and Utatane Koharu.
"Danzo," said Hiruzen calmly. "I had a feeling you would show up."
Danzo's single eye scanned the room. "So, you were already discussing the Uzumaki Clan."
"Sit, Danzo," Hiruzen instructed, gesturing toward a seat.
Danzo sat beside Homura without a word.
Hiruzen folded his hands. "What are your thoughts on this developing relationship between the Uzumaki and the Uchiha?"
"We must prevent it," Danzo said immediately. "They cannot be allowed to form an alliance."
"Why?" asked Hiruzen, raising an eyebrow.
"You remember what our sensei said about the Uchiha. The more powerful their eyes become, the more unstable they get, just like Madara," Danzo replied.
But what Danzo didn't say was that he had a personal reason for his paranoia. He had betrayed Uzushiogakure himself. He feared the Uzumaki would eventually uncover the truth—that it was his actions that led to their destruction. He feared they would break the Root secrecy seals, and expose him. He also feared their influence would reignite the long-buried power of the Senju.
Danzo viewed Root success as synonymous with Konoha strength. He could betray other clans, but never the village itself. Still, in his mind, his personal survival came first, if he was given a choice to fight to death or destroying Konoha, he would choose to destroy Konoha.
"Don't do anything rash, Danzo," Koharu warned. "The Uchiha have behaved responsibly so far. There's no reason they shouldn't build relationships with other clans."
"I agree," said Hiruzen. "Even if our sensei distrusted them, we shouldn't let old prejudices dictate our decisions."
"But we don't have Kagami anymore," Homura added with a grim expression. "He was the bridge between the Uchiha and us. Without him, we're blind to what's happening inside their clan."
At the mention of Kagami name, everyone grew solemn. Kagami had been a rare Uchiha—loyal, wise, and a personal student of the Second Hokage, Tobirama Senju.
Danzo frowned slightly. He had ordered Kagami assassination. His Root agents had killed not only Kagami, but also Uchiha Kureha and her husband, Uchiha Ryu—son of Uchiha Clan Leader Hikaku. All three had gone on a mission and never returned. The investigation found nothing and eventually claimed the enemy had taken their bodies, but in truth, Danzo had their corpses destroyed. He even removed Kagami Sharingan, keeping it as a personal trophy. He hadn't implanted it yet—it was still too early—but he had plans.
Danzo justified the assassination with cold logic. With Kagami alive, suppressing the Uchiha was difficult. He would always be there to speak up, to advocate for the clan. Removing him cleared the path.
"That's exactly why we must stop this alliance," Danzo said. "Without Kagami, there's no one to tell us what the Uchiha are planning and now suddenly Uzumaki had visited them, it was suspicious.."
To Danzo, it was clear. The Uzumaki were not making peace.
"Danzo, Uzumaki Clan are still under Mito sama. She is the most experienced Uzumaki, so maybe they came to meet Uchiha is because of her instruction" replied Hiruzen.
Danzo face tightened, he can't tell them the truth.
