Chapter 8 - Business Time

Business Time

The following week, a massive iceberg floated into the harbor. Inside were several men in grey suits, frozen in time. When Finn and Jake thawed them out, the "Businessmen" immediately started "optimizing" the brothers' lives.

"They're so helpful!" Finn cheered. One businessman was sharpening his sword, another was cooking a perfect breakfast, and a third was even doing Finn's hair.

"We can just relax, Kael!" Jake said, sitting in a reclining chair made of businessmen. "No more chores!"

The Danger of Comfort

Kael watched them with a frown. His Accelerated Learning showed him the truth: these men weren't helpful; they were a virus of laziness. "Finn, look at you. You haven't trained in days. Your reflexes are getting slow. These guys are from the old world a world that focused so much on 'efficiency' that they forgot how to be heroes."

Suddenly, a giant Fire-Vulture attacked the Treehouse.

"Businessmen! Deal with it!" Finn ordered.

The businessmen marched out. They tried to give the vulture a "performance review." They tried to schedule a "meeting" to discuss the fire. The vulture just shrieked and breathed a blast of blue flame, sending the men scurrying in fear.

"They can't fight, Finn!" Kael shouted. He ran into the blue flames. His Elemental Resistance turned his skin a dull, heat-treated grey. He walked through the fire as if it were a cool breeze, grabbing the vulture by its neck.

"Finn! Jake! Now!"

The sight of Kael standing in the fire woke them up. Finn grabbed his sword, feeling the weight of it again. Jake shed his extra "lazy" weight and turned into a giant fist. Together, they drove the vulture away.

They sent the Businessmen back to the ice, realizing that a life without struggle wasn't a hero's life at all. "The hard way is the only way," Kael said, handing Finn a sponge to start the dishes.
