The classroom door buzzed open as student still continue to discuss about the maths test and some mostly about Evan drop.
It was something that was a shock to everyone , because it had always been a procedure .
Joshua was first in math grades
While Evan was second now he was third .
Jane grinning while sitting beside Raye ". Fifth place, baby! I'd like to thank caffeine, panic, and my one functioning brain cell".
Raye turned to her groaning dramatically " Sixth place… This is a hate crime. I'm reporting Mr. William to the Department of Student Emotional Health"
" Please. You barely remembered which formula was for surface area and which was for your GPA's funeral" Jane said scoffing she flipped her hair backwards before saying " beside don't even think about that ok " .
"Of course I won't, am just being dramatic I don't want to have zero through out my test score thanks ".
Evan strides in ever so slowly looking like the world was about to end .
" You know the guy is so dramatic , I would be the happiest person if I got third too ".
Raye hummed a yes before saying " that's true though he kinda of gets second all the time and secondly his pride won't let him too ".
Since their seat was a little bit close, Evan walked slowly propping his butt on the chair trying to ignore them .
Jane mockingly gasped like she was clearly suprised before saying .
"Oh look, it's the grammar king with a bruised ego! "
"Evan? Third ? What happened? Did your calculator betray you? " Raye asked chuckling softly with her friend while watching Evan break slowly .
One . Two.
three ....
" I suspect an error in the correction rubric. Or a brief blackout of academic integrity across the teaching board. Nothing else could justify this heresy" Evan deadpanned eyes narrowed before he hissed loudly .
"Wow , I almost thought dumbness struck him too , Evan was never going to stay mute without something stupid to say " Jane said while her friend nodded slowly .
"Heresy, he says. Someone call the Vatican."
"Meanwhile, Simi is out here eating all of us like a brainy queen. Second place? She snapped." Raye said snapping her finger to give emphasis while Evan jerk suddenly on his chair he turned to her with an ugly glare .
It was hard Raye thought as she turned back to face the board .
He huffed smoothening his t-shirt which wasn't even crumpled as he tries to put on a brave face saying " The tables may turn, Miss Top Six" .
"I am Top Five, thank you. Don't lump me in with this slacker."
Raye gasped turning to look at Jane who smiled at her innocently " Wow. Sisterhood is dead".
She turned back glaring at Jane quietly who winked at her before turning to look at her book on the desk .
Later That Day – Library Corner
Raye is slumped dramatically over her math textbook, poking the edge of the page like it personally offended her.
She sighed tiredly before raising her head up to look at the text book .
Then she heard footsteps , she turned to look at Joshua who had just stepped in the library , she quickly sat upright seeing he was now approaching her table .
Joshua walked perfectly like he owned the whole place , he slide carefully into into the seat across from her .
"Need help, Raye?"
Raye perks up, trying to act unbothered before shrugging .
" Oh. It's you."
Joshua grinned showing his perfectly alined white teeth , the same old charm glint .
" Nice to see I still rate a 'you' and not a 'who?"
Raye offered him a small smile before looking down at her text book
"Depends. You offering snacks or solutions?"
"Just solutions this time. I saw your score. It's not… you know, catastrophic. Just slightly tragic"
Ouch Raye thought still holding her pen she could only offer him a small smile which didn't reach her eyes.
"That's very inspiring . Really ".
Jane appeared stopping in her track to see a new company she rolled her eyes before walking in slowly with a paper cup of tea and an eyebrow arched high.
"Tell me he's not offering you remedial math with a side of deception" Jane said staring at Raye who shrugged while she raised her head up to stare at Joshua with narrowed eyes .
It was very clear that she didn't like him Joshua thought still offering an innocent smile .
Well like he cared , he wasn't here for her .
"No games. Just offering help. We've studied together before" Joshua said smiling coolly .
Jane rolled her eyes she turned to Raye who was looking down at her textbook like she didn't know he was there .
Jane bent down whispering just enough for Raye to hear " Yeah, and the last time ended with him ghosting you for a Layla with extra lip gloss and no respect for boundaries. Think ".
"Look I just want to help , nothing more ".
Joshua said who didn't hear what Jane said raised his hand in defense.
"It better be nothing more like you said " Jane said scoffing loudly while muttering Curses under her breath ,she picked her back pack before saying .
"Raye am having a class now , take care of yourself ,and don't let people deceive you to ".
She gave one glance at Joshua before leaving the places clearly displeased.
"Ok Jane " Raye murmured turning back to look at Joshua who leaned forward to see what she was doing.
"So, you're mixing up coefficients and constants again. Just slow it down"
Raye smiled before groaning .
" Ugh. Why does x always have drama?"
"Because you and x have a lot in common. Complicated, impossible to solve, but still essential to the equation "
" Wow. That was corny but weirdly flattering." Raye said laughing despite herself .
For some reason , she wasn't feeling anxious or anything anymore when he was around .
Joshua grinned before saying .
"I've got layers"
They continue their lecture , and surprisingly joshua was very good at explaining things , making sure she understood before jumping into the next equation .
That was one of the reason Raye liked him , he had a very understanding nature , together with a warm smile too .
Raye mind unknowingly drifted to the mystery guy , he hadn't texted her and she wondered why .
Not like she wasn't curious and all _ she had even dropped a few text message but got no reply ...he didn't even read them .
Maybe he had finally giving up or something Raye thought staring at Joshua and then down at the book .
That was good at least she could now think straight ...but then why did it still hurt _...at the same time .
