"What!" Cassie jerked up from the bed after hearing what Jane said. She could not bring herself to comprehend what she had just heard.
Jane couldn't help but cry her eyes out as memories from that day came crashing through her head.
"Jane!" Cassie rushed to her and hugged her.
"I'm so sorry that you had to go through all of that. I'm sorry that I wasn't there to be with you and comfort you. And this was all my fault, if I had not left you there all alone. If I didn't suggest that we left the orphanage in the first place, that would not have happened." Cassie blamed herself as tears flowed down her eyes.
"No cassie, please don't blame yourself like that. It was bound to happen. None of it was your fault. There was nothing you could have done about it. Besides, something good came out of it. I had my son due to that." Jane said and paused.
"Jane are you okay?" Cassie asked taking her mind off her thoughts.
"I'm okay, I'm just feeling a little bit emotional. Whatever happened is now in the past. Though I must confess that it was not easy at first." Jane continued to talk.
"I struggled a lot raising Chris alone. Mrs Whitney helped me a lot, infact she saved my life. She found me the next morning after that horrible accident, and took me to a hospital."
"When I woke up, she allowed me to stay with her until the day I began working here at the mansion and had to move in with my son." Jane recounted with a smile on her face.
"Chris and I fell in love, and here we are, married and happy." Jane concluded and heaved a deep sigh.
"Does Chris know about what happened?" Cassie asked, and Jane shook her head.
"No! I've not had the chance to tell him yet. But I will soon, I plan on doing that tonight." Jane said and Cassie hugged her.
"I'm proud of how far you have come Jane. You are really strong. Oh! Before I forget? Who is the girl Chris calls his sister? Did you have two kids?" Cassie asked and Jane froze.
Her mind drifted to what the doctor said to both she and Grace the other day. She also remembered what Mrs Whitney said about forgiving her last night.
She really doesn't know what to do or how to approach this difficult situation.
"She's Chris's daughter from a past relationship. She's about the same age as Chris and surprisingly bears the same name as me." Jane said the realisation of what might be happening staring at her in the face.
"Hmmm…. That's good!" Cassie said.
"It's your turn to tell me about yourself." Jane said to cassie, and she giggled.
"Well there's nothing much to say. After that night, I searched for you for three days, but no one knew you or what happened to you. I lived on the street for a while and made friends." Cassie began.
One of them told me about a job opening abroad. I was excited, but when we arrived there, I was forced into becoming a night dancer." Cassie broke into tears as she spoke.
"It was horrible at first, but I got used to it. When I got tired of the job, I stole a customer's money and ran down here." Cassie chuckled.
"The bastard wouldn't let the money go and followed me down here. I met Jack while I was escaping from his men, trying to kill me one day." Cassie added, and Jane gasped in shock
"I escaped but was caught again, and this time it was Jack and your husband that came and rescued me. And now I'm here with you after all these years." She said and they hugged each other for a while not letting go.
"I'm so glad that you made it out from that horrible place. Now that we have found each other. We are going to put the past behind us and live life to the fullest." Jane said, and cassie nodded.
"Yes my friend, we will fulfil all our dreams and goals."Cassie agreed, and they both hugged each giggling and grinning.
Hours passed before Jane and Cassie stopped talking and filling each other with memories of the times they were apart from each other.
"I have to go now. I'm sure our men are looking for us by now. And also I should find the children, I have not seen them all day." Jane said.
"You are right about that. I can tell Jack is in a bad mood already. I will see you later at dinner?" Cassie asked.
"Yes sure!" Jane said and walked out of the room.
Her demeanour and countenance changed the minute she stepped out of the room. She has been wanting to leave, but she didn't want Cassie suspecting anything was wrong with her.
She headed directly to Grace's room and knocked on the door. Everyone obviously has a partner in this house. She can't just walk in anymore.
"Grace!" She called, and in some minutes, the door was opened, and Grace was by the door with her blouse ruffled and her hair scattered all over her face.
"Mrs Smith!" Mike appeared by the door with his lips stained with lipstick. Jane's eyes fell on Grace's lips, and she noticed her makeup was smeared.
"I'm sorry if I'm interrupting anything. I can wait, so I will just come back." Jane said.
"Nonsense! You can come in. I will see you at dinner, Mike." Grace said shyly.
"Yes my love," Mike agreed and kissed Grace briefly on the lips. Mike walked away, and Grace pulled Jane into the room and quickly locked the door.
"Okay! So you want to tell me what's going on? Are you both so serious?" Jane asked Grace, and she blushed.
"Well let's just say we can't keep our hands away from each other. Thank goodness that you came here in time." Grace said, and Jane laughed softly.
"Don't laugh, Jane, it's not funny." Grace glared.
"I'm sorry, but I can't help it." Jane said and then stopped.
"Well I just hope you know what you are doing. He's married, and you know that." Jane said.
"I know, and that will be sorted out soon." Grace assured Jane.
"So what's up? Aren't you supposed to be in the room all day making babies?" Grace teased Jane and she covered her face with her palm, blushing.
"Stop it, I actually came to talk to you about something serious." Jane said with her smile frozen.
"Okay, now you are giving me chills. Why are you sounding so serious all of a sudden? What's happening?" Grace asked, and Jane exhaled.
"Remember the time we went to the hospital when we were looking for Cassie?" Jane asked, and Grace nodded.
"Yes, I remember well." Grace answered.
"You know the doctor said something about me having twin. A boy and a girl, I can't stop thinking about what the doctor said.
"I do not think that he's mistaken. The details he gave about me were so accurate that he couldn't have gotten something like that wrong." Jane said.
"Are you sure about that, Jane?" Grace asked.
"Yes I am, and I want to look into it. I can feel it in my gut, and I think Mrs Whitney might know something." Jane added.
