Chapter 25 - Chapter 24: Battle It Out

*The next day*

*Grunt*

Rasps and grunts filled the training yard. Five slender figures could be seen fighting.

"Break!" Susan shouted. As soon as they heard her, they plopped down.

Gasping for air, Jaxon asked, "Do we have to do this?"

"I thought you said we needed all the strength we could get?" Hayley questioned sarcastically. Jaxon and Hayley started bickering.

"Enough fighting! If you want to fight then sure," Susan interrupted. "First match, Hayley versus Jaxon starts in 3...2...1,"

Knowing it would be a waste of time to argue, Hayley and Jaxon sat up and got into a defensive position. At one, they leapt towards each other.

Hayley threw a heavy punch towards Jaxon's stomach. Seeing this Jaxon twisted his body to the right to avoid it. In return, Hayley crouched and used the momentum from the punch to twist her body towards Jaxon's side. Noticing it was not in his favour, he quickly leapt backwards, helping him avoid her punch in the nick of time.

"They are better than I thought," Susan complimented.

Smiling June added, "I bet they were holding back some anger they had towards each other."

Not minding this, she raised her left leg towards Jaxon's right ankle. Going in for a kick, Jaxon hastily jumped back. Hayley utilized this opportunity to veer around on her left foot and performed a high kick with her right leg towards Jaxon's chest.

Suddenly purple lightning wrapped around Jaxon's body. Feeling the threatening energy, Hayley instinctively shrouded her foot with fire.

"We have to stop them!" June shouted out.

"Sierra, use your ability," Susan commanded.

Closing her eyes Sierra tried gathering energy, feeling it, she clapped her hands in Jaxon and Hayley's direction. As Hayley's foot collided with Jaxon's chest. The rebound from the air barrier threw them back. As well as everyone and everything in the yard.

*Cough, cough cough*

As everyone coughed the dust gradually settled down. Susan slowly sat up. Looking at Hayley and Jaxon who were gasping for air. Rubbing between her brows, she sighed, "Jaxon, Hayley are you two alright?"

Both raised a thumb. Getting up she helped Sierra and June up. "Now we know Jaxon's ability," Sierra said rubbing her throat. "And so does the yard." June pointed towards the ground and the dummies were scattered around.

The ground was scorched black, either by Hayley's fire or Jaxon's purple lightning.

"Wait, didn't we see him do this in the illusion?" June questioned as she looked at Hayley and Jaxon still lying on the ground from exhaustion. Holding her chin Susan answered, "Yeah we did. But that was -as you said- an illusion."

"That does not make it any less false. " Sierra corrected.

"We'll find out soon enough. Go help those two idiots up." Susan crossed her arms as she nudged her head in their direction. The sky slowly darkened, as if it was warning them.
