Chapter 39 - Chapter 39: Don't Try to Cheat Her Out of Her Money

Before Victor returned, the news exploded that a hotel under the Parker Corporation was haunted, and several celebrities were the first to expose it. Because the Parker Corporation's hotel in L City is located near the film city and is the highest standard hotel in that area, celebrities naturally choose to stay there.

Victor came out of the conference room and snatched Polly Sutton into the office, with Andrew Lindsey and another two staff members following them in.

Polly was pushed into the lounge by Victor, and he went out to handle the haunted hotel matter.

Polly didn't even have the time to retort before being shut in the lounge; this man was still as domineering as ever.

"The corporation should issue an official statement suing all the accounts spreading rumors, no matter what kind of account, if they've forwarded over five hundred, sue them all."

"But among them are a few celebrities."

"Can celebrities spread rumors then? They are all college graduates, do they really believe in ghosts or are they deliberately spreading rumors without knowing the truth?" Victor spoke in a deep voice, already arranging for Andrew to book the flight to L City.

The two responsible for the Parker Corporation's website looked at each other. Not offending celebrities is the basic way of handling matters, but their new president clearly doesn't understand.

"President, regarding this matter..."

"The principle of the Parker Corporation is not to fawn over anyone, flatter anyone. From now on engrain this into your bones. If there's any problem, let them find me directly. Is there anything else?"

The two dared not say anything more, only complying with Victor's orders, even if feeling resentful.

Inside the lounge, Polly listened to the conversation outside. With Victor's way of handling things, it's no wonder people of the Parker have issues with him.

"President, could this matter be done by those people again?" Andrew asked worriedly.

Victor leaned back in his chair, pinching the bridge of his nose. Polly came out of the lounge, looking at Victor pinching his nose. "If I ask you for money now, will you strangle me?"

Victor heard Polly's words, lowered his hands, and looked at her, "You really dare to ask for money."

Polly: "That's because I'm sure I'll win the bid."

Victor looked at the little arrogant person in front of him and his mood improved somewhat, he turned to Andrew and said, "Transfer one million from my personal account to each of her senior brothers and sisters."

Polly's eyes smiled like a little fox, calculating that she still had three million left. However, she waited for a while and noticed Victor wasn't saying anything further.

"My, what about mine?" Polly extended her hand, blinking at Victor. Where was her money, that thick wad of cash?

"Included in the thirty million, I'll give it to you all at once in the end." Victor employed the same tactic she previously used when deducting from the thirty million.

Polly: "..."

She felt as though her money was going to fly away.

"I have to go to L City for some matters, anything else?" Victor said, already standing up intending to go to the airport.

Polly retracted her hand angrily, really feeling that Victor was trying to swindle her money.

"Are you bankrupt, needing to defer payment for three million?" Polly said discontentedly.

"You'd better pray I never go bankrupt, or I won't have thirty million to divorce you."

"It's thirty-three million!" Don't try to swindle her money.

Victor dressed and looked at the woman still hung up over the three million, suddenly feeling that sometimes being simple-minded is quite good.

Victor and Andrew left, Polly thought that Victor smiled slightly when he left, although the smile was not obvious, she saw it.

Victor went to L City that day, Polly received a message from her senior sister, saying she'd received a million and asking what was going on.

Polly waited for a ride under the Parker Corporation building, sat on the flowerbed, and called her senior sister.

"Victor gave it, it's what you all deserve." Polly turned back to glance at the Parker Corporation skyscraper, "When the tower is about to fall, how can the ants survive alone?"

"What on earth?" Emma Turner didn't understand why Polly suddenly became poetic.

"For my thirty million, I can't let Victor go bankrupt. No, thirty-three million." Polly saw the ride approaching and got in directly.

"Victor is going bankrupt? Can't be, even a dying camel is bigger than a horse, you shouldn't be fooled." Emma felt her junior sister was almost certainly being deceived. "But I saw the news saying the Parker Corporation's hotel is haunted, it's quite a big deal with several celebrities exposing it, what's going on?"

"Senior sister, do you think there really are ghosts in this world?"

"I think you've been haunted. How could there be ghosts in this world? Mostly, it's people pretending to be ghosts."

"Exactly, it's a truth any normal person would understand. Don't those big celebrities know?" Polly took her phone to look at those celebrities' Weibo accounts. One had more than 20 million followers, posting such news wasn't tempting fate?

Parker Corporation's action was swift, lawsuits and police reports happened simultaneously, turning social news into entertainment news instantly, with fans starting to say the Parker Corporation felt guilty, especially this one top-tier actress's fans who were the loudest.

"Tsk tsk tsk, the internet is about to turn upside down, do these fans know what they're doing? They're about to ruin their idol, the official statement is out, yet they're saying the Parker Corporation feels guilty, don't they know that their idol is promoting superstitions?" Emma clearly was browsing the news, and as a fangirl herself, she naturally found more than Polly did.

Isn't it just promoting superstitions? Victor was helping them fan the flames, making more people notice these superstition-promoting celebrities. Victor, such a person, no matter who it is, if they provoke him, they pay the price.

Ruthless, and rather exhilarating.

Official media quickly began reposting science-believing posts, and several celebrities' Weibo accounts instantly deleted posts, issuing an apology. The general message being that as public figures, they shouldn't post unverified things, or believe others and involve themselves with tales of gods and ghosts.

From the occurrence of the event until its closure, it was only about an hour.

The haunted hotel incident was also reported to the police by the Parker Corporation and promised to give the public an explanation within 24 hours, even so, unsurprisingly, the Parker Corporation's stock still declined significantly.

Polly was happily watching the drama unfold when a message came in from her senior brother.

[Senior Brother: I found the type of timber you wanted me to look for yesterday, at an L City timber market. They've recently registered that they'll have a batch of timber for sale the day after tomorrow, among which is the type you're looking for.

Polly: L City? I remember L City doesn't produce that type of timber.

Senior Brother: Maybe the timber merchant brought it over. Want to go check it out?

Polly: Absolutely!]

Polly had the driver re-route to the airport. If she could catch Victor, she could save the money for travel and hotel. She really was a little genius.

Though the little genius, Polly, did not see the message from her senior brother intending to accompany her.
