Chapter 36 - chapter 36

Leo

I am so frusted, it's shocking Tris making move first. I wanna spend more time with him. I was hard earlier but as soon as Jermy contacted that they got a lead on Tris attacker, It diverted my attention. After taking shower I tried my best to not think about stuff.

My only priority right now is Tris's safety. I called a few of my pack members for a meeting in the secret chember at library—those who are working on identifying Tris's attackers.

The chamber was dimly lit, the round table surrounded by eight of my most trusted. As I entered, Jeremy pulled a chair out for me.

Everyone looked tense. This secret room is used only by me, and only those I choose are allowed inside. It's a eight member of special squad which only do as I order.

Heth is leader of this squad. He is pwerfull, intelligent and has leader quality still needs to follow Jermy. This Squads are not allowed to disobey my order, we are bondedwith spell.

If anyone goes against me, they will suffer by loosing their all major senses. And they have to live their whole life like that.

They all stand up as I entered the chamber.

Jermy was standing beside Heth.

"Anyone with valuable information?" I asked, scanning their faces.

"I think we've got a lead, but we're not sure," Heth said nervously, holding out a paper.

"What have you all even been doing until now?" I growled, snatching the paper from him and tossing it on the table.

"Let's at least hear them out," Jermy said, standing up from beside me.

I was disappointed. "If you're not sure, then what's the point of this meeting?" My anger was boiling over.

"We went to the Silbet tribe, as you mentioned—the symbol you described," Heth said, passing me a paper with a drawing on it: five dots connected in a circle, with a bird and a knife piercing through it.

"Yes, that's the symbol I gave you to investigate. So?" I looked at them expectantly.

"The Silbet tribe didn't create it. They're known for making binding tattoos for servitude, but they've never seen this one before," Heth explained.

"Which means someone else created it. What does it mean? Are there other tribes we don't know about?" Jermy asked.

"Did you find anything else? Who made it?" I asked, hoping they were finally making progress.

But silence filled the room. No one spoke. Seriously?

"You found nothing?" I stormed toward Heth and grabbed him by the neck. His chair clattered to the ground as I lifted him high enough that his feet left the floor.

"We… we found… something—" he choked, face turning from red to pale, sweat breaking on his forehead as he struggled to breathe. All I wanted was to make him suffer for wasting my time.

"We need to ease up. They're the best we've got," Jeremy said calmly, fully aware that I wouldn't actually kill him.

I dropped Heth and slammed my hands down on the table. Jeremy was right. If these guys can't figure it out, no one else can.

Coughing, Heth managed to speak. "Only a high-level witch… can create that symbol. Its purpose is to target a specific person—like a gang that accepts contracts to kill."

Charad helped him up.

"Anything else? Do we know where they're based? How to approach them?" Jermy asked, sharp and focused.

"Not exactly. It's like they appeared from nowhere and vanished just as fast," Heth said, still recovering.

"We should speak with the elders. They might know something," Jermy suggested.

"No. I don't want anyone else to know about this," I said, dropping into the chair again.

"It's hard to bait them when we don't even understand their motive," Charad added, helping Heth back into his seat.

"We could track witches capable of making the symbol. That should help us narrow it down," Heth said quickly, cutting off Charad, who seemed ready to suggest something more extreme. Heth was still rubbing his neck; the marks from my fingers clear on his pale skin.

"Fine. Contact me as soon as you find something. Dismissed."I punched the table in frustration.

Everyone left—except me and Jeremy.

"Why can't we ask Tris if he wants to help?" Jeremy said.

I narrowed my eyes. "What are you trying to say?"

"Tris is the only confirmed target. We could use him… as bait," he said, meeting my gaze.

"You're seriously suggesting that?" I glared at him. The only reason I held myself back was because I cared about him. Otherwise, he wouldn't have dared say that.

"We think he's safe here, but we don't know. At first, I thought it was a random attack. Now? I've got a bad feeling." Jeremy's voice was cold. "Because of him, our clan is in danger."

Why doesn't he get it?

"What's your duty to me?" I was loud, clear and deadly serious.

"To follow your orders, sir." He lowered his gaze.

"And my duty to you?" I stepped closer.

"To keep us safe." I put my hand on his head.

"Why?" I asked squeezing his head.

"Because you'll do anything to protect the clan."I pressed him down to make him kneel.

"And?" I asked.

"To protect him," Jeremy said quietly.

"I'll do anything to protect him—he's my other half. I protect you because it's my duty," I said. "Don't make me regret that. Because I can abandon those duties again… and next time, I won't come back just to put Tris in danger."

"Understood," Jeremy said, dropping to his knees and clenching his fists.

I left the room. It's hard to choose between the ones you love. I never wanted to be a leader. Life is really messing with me.

I just hope Tris stays by my side. I can't afford to lose him again.
