Lenny thought she had misheard.
What?
Childhood betrothal?
She's eighteen this year, and she's childhood sweethearts with a thirty-year-old uncle?
How does that even work?
She wasn't even born when he graduated elementary school.
She just entered elementary school when he graduated from university.
She barely got into college, and he's already graduated with a Ph.D. and been in society for years.
How does this count as childhood sweethearts?
And that's not even the most shocking part!
The even more shocking thing is they were once arranged to be married!
Wait a minute...
She's twelve years younger than him, how were they arranged like that?
Lenny quickly interrupted her grandma,
and asked in surprise.
"To be exact,
it was when you were still inside your mother,
that the engagement was set!" her grandma replied.
"If I had been a boy, wouldn't I be in a bromance with that uncle?" Lenny blurted out.
The next second, she was tapped by her mother.
Lenny looked at her mother with resentment,
I was just stating the truth, okay!
"If you were a boy, none of this would be happening today!" her grandma sighed in response.
"True!" Lenny nodded, agreeing wholeheartedly.
But then she realized, why was she nodding her head!
"Grandma, I'm only eighteen, I'm still a minor...
Well, okay, I'm an adult now, but I'm still not the legal marrying age!
Are you really willing to sell me off like this?"
"We couldn't even give you away for free, let alone sell you!" her mom muttered on the side.
Lenny was instantly in tears.
Mom, are you really my mom?
"Now Old Mr. Tunner is critically ill, and the only thing on his mind before he passes is his grandson's marriage.
He's specifically chosen you to wed.
Because there was a marriage agreement between the families, our family has no choice!"
"Grandma, can I refuse?"
"Sure! As long as you're willing to be disowned, sever all ties, and be never recognized again!" Grandma replied succinctly.
"That's harsh!" Lenny exclaimed, clicking her tongue.
And so, when Lenny went home for winter break, before the break was over, she inexplicably became the betrothed granddaughter-in-law of the Tunner family.
The marriage is expected to be completed within the year, to bring good fortune!
Bring good fortune my foot, she's only eighteen for goodness' sake!
And she doesn't even know what that uncle from the Tunner family looks like.
If he's handsome, she could maybe accept it, but if he's ugly, can she give a bad review and return him?
