Chapter 36 - Lost

After the battle, Ryo felt a familiar surge of energy within him as his body absorbed the residual power from the fight. His skills had sharpened, his instincts felt keener, and he knew his status had likely improved. Curious to see the gains, he opened his status window and reviewed his progress.

Ryo grinned as he saw the increases. His Teaching skill had risen significantly thanks to his recent training with Issei, and he was just one level away from maxing out Swordsmanship. He felt a sense of accomplishment, not just because of his growing stats, but because the training sessions and battles were giving him a sense of purpose that was becoming rare in his life.

Satisfied, he closed the status window and looked over at Issei, who was still catching his breath from watching Ryo's battle. Sona and Ophis stepped closer, their expressions a mix of concern and admiration.

"Impressive, as always," Sona said, crossing her arms. "But do you ever get tired of picking up enemies along the way?"

"Enemies? No," Ryo replied with a smirk. "They're practically gifts for me to sharpen my sarcasm on. Besides, nothing brings a team together like a common foe."

Ophis, with her usual cool demeanor, added, "We'll be ready for whatever comes next. Though, Ryo, maybe tone down the attitude just a bit. We can't keep saving you from every new enemy you provoke."

Ryo chuckled, giving her a confident wink. "Where's the fun in that? And besides, I'm not planning on making this an everyday thing. Just enough to keep things interesting."

Issei, still looking a bit starstruck, piped up, "I hope one day I'll be able to handle enemies like that. Maybe even with a bit of your flair."

Ryo clapped him on the back. "Stick with me, and you'll get there. Who knows? Maybe someday you'll be saving me from all these so-called 'gifts' life throws our way. Until then, keep your balance and remember: confidence is key. Oh, and sarcasm. Lots of sarcasm."

With their spirits high, they turned and walked back to the clubhouse, ready to face the next day. The bonds they shared and the strength they continued to build were proof that, together, they could take on anything—even if Ryo's sarcasm made things just a little bit more entertaining along the way.
