Chapter 41 - Wow

The next morning dawned gray, heavy clouds hanging low over the city like an omen. Despite the victory over Riser and the defeat of the Archon, there was little celebration. The energy in the atmosphere had shifted. The battle may have been won—but peace felt like a fragile illusion.

Ryo stood atop the academy's tower, overlooking the city. The wind tugged at his cloak, his mind distant.

"You're quieter than usual."

He turned to see Sona approaching, her hands clasped behind her back. Her glasses were slightly askew, her usually immaculate uniform dusty from yesterday's fight.

"Trying to figure out if that was a one-time freak event," Ryo replied. "Or the start of something much worse."

Sona nodded solemnly. "Given what Ophis said, we can't assume anything anymore."

Ryo exhaled slowly, his gaze scanning the horizon. "I always thought training Issei and beating Riser would be the climax. But that was just the warm-up, huh?"

Sona adjusted her glasses. "If what attacked us was truly an Archon… we're not just dealing with devils, angels, or dragons anymore. We're in cosmic territory now. Eldritch. Unknowable."

He gave a dry laugh. "And here I thought surviving the Underworld was an achievement."

Meanwhile...

Deep within a sealed chamber beneath the Devil King's palace, several high-ranking devils convened. Sirzechs, his expression grim, held a holographic projection of the Archon's energy signature.

"This isn't from any known realm," he said. "Not Heaven. Not Hell. Not even the Dimensional Gap."

Ajuka Beelzebub frowned. "It's foreign. Beyond even the Old Ones."

Grayfia stepped forward, her voice even colder than usual. "And it was after Ophis."

Sirzechs nodded. "And Ryo."

Ajuka looked up, intrigued. "That boy again. He's more than he seems."

"They all are," Sirzechs murmured. "We need to watch them. Support them if we can. But if another Archon appears..."

No one finished the sentence.

Training in the Unknown

Back at the academy, Ryo gathered his team again—Issei, Sona, Ophis, and a reluctant Azazel, who had shown up uninvited with energy readings and a bag of chips.

"You know," Azazel said, crunching loudly, "when primordial horrors show up, most people run. Not train harder."

Ryo ignored him. "We're not most people."

He turned to the group. "If we're going to stand a chance against what's coming, we need more than raw power. We need control. Knowledge. And unity."

Issei raised a hand. "Question. What exactly are we training for now?"

Ryo's eyes gleamed with something sharp and serious. "To fight things that don't follow rules. Reality-breakers. Beings that can erase you by speaking your name wrong."

Issei swallowed. "Coolcoolcool. Love that. No pressure."

Sona stepped in. "Which is why we're establishing a new training protocol. Multi-dimensional resistance, energy shielding, and combat against warp-space anomalies."

Azazel whistled. "Intense. Count me in."

"You're not part of this team," Ryo deadpanned.

"I am now," Azazel grinned.

Later That Night

Ryo sat alone by the training field, the moon hanging low and blood-red.

Ophis appeared beside him without a sound. "You should rest."

"I know," he said. "But my head's spinning."

She sat beside him, her voice uncharacteristically gentle. "You carry too much. Let us share the weight."

Ryo glanced at her, a ghost of a smile on his face. "You're learning to be human."

"And you're remembering how."

They sat in silence for a moment, the bond between them stronger than words.

And above them, far beyond the moon, something stirred. Watching. Waiting.
