Chapter 35 - Charm or ego

The air crackled with tension as Ryo and Issei stood side by side, watching the mysterious figure across from them. The man sneered, his aura dark and filled with malice. Ryo could tell that this opponent wasn't just a run-of-the-mill villain; his stance and the confidence he carried hinted at someone who had seen his fair share of battles.

Ryo raised an eyebrow, his hand casually resting on his sword. "So, shadowy stranger with a grudge—care to introduce yourself, or do you prefer we just refer to you as 'creepy stalker guy'?"

The man smirked, eyes narrowing. "I go by Kaiden. And believe me, you'll remember my name well after I'm finished with you. I've come to test your strength, Ryo Uchiha, and to see if your reputation as a 'silent killer' is anything more than a hollow title."

Ryo scoffed, flicking his wrist as he unsheathed his sword. "Oh, trust me, my title's quite accurate. You can ask the last few challengers—well, if they were still around to talk about it."

Kaiden's expression hardened, and a flash of energy ignited around him, swirling in ominous, dark hues. Ryo could feel the sinister power radiating from him, and while it was nothing he couldn't handle, he knew Issei wasn't ready to face an enemy of this level yet.

He glanced over at Issei. "Stay sharp, kid. This one's no walk in the park. Watch and learn, but be ready to jump in if things get messy."

Issei nodded, clenching his fists. "Got it, Ryo. I'll back you up however I can."

With that, Ryo turned back to Kaiden, a deadly glint in his eye. "Alright, Kaiden. You wanted to see what I've got? I'll be happy to disappoint you."

The Battle Begins

Without warning, Kaiden lunged forward, his fists shrouded in dark energy. Ryo sidestepped effortlessly, swinging his sword in a quick, controlled arc aimed at Kaiden's exposed side. But Kaiden was fast, faster than Ryo had expected, and dodged just in time.

"Not bad," Kaiden sneered. "But let's see how you handle this."

He unleashed a blast of dark energy, aimed directly at Ryo. With lightning reflexes, Ryo activated his Sharingan, analyzing Kaiden's movements in an instant. He countered the blast with a fireball jutsu, the flames colliding with Kaiden's attack in an explosion that sent shockwaves through the clearing.

"Is that it?" Ryo taunted, a smirk on his lips. "I've had more challenging encounters with rogue ninjas."

Kaiden snarled, clearly irritated by Ryo's calm demeanor. He launched a barrage of attacks, each one faster and more aggressive than the last. Ryo dodged and parried with ease, his movements fluid and unhurried, each action precise and calculated.

Issei watched in awe from the sidelines, absorbing every move. Ryo's control over the battlefield was mesmerizing, as if he were orchestrating a dance rather than a fight. It was the kind of mastery Issei aspired to, and seeing it up close only fueled his determination.

Finally, Kaiden leapt back, breathing heavily, a scowl of frustration on his face. "You're better than I thought. But I've yet to show you my full power."

"Oh, please," Ryo said, rolling his eyes. "Spare me the dramatic buildup. If you've got a 'final form' or whatever, just get on with it. Some of us have lives to get back to."

Issei stifled a laugh, but his attention snapped back to Kaiden as the man's aura darkened further, his eyes flashing with a malevolent gleam.

"Very well," Kaiden growled. "Let's end this."

Kaiden began gathering energy, the ground trembling as his power intensified. But Ryo was unfazed. He tightened his grip on his sword, ready to counter whatever came next. As Kaiden launched his next attack—a devastating wave of dark energy—Ryo activated his Sharingan, anticipating the trajectory perfectly. With a swift motion, he sidestepped and closed the distance, his blade aimed directly at Kaiden's chest.

The world seemed to freeze for a split second as Ryo's sword found its mark, piercing through Kaiden's defenses. Kaiden's eyes widened in shock, but before he could react, Ryo twisted his sword, a flash of power surging through the blade.

"Consider this a lesson in humility," Ryo said coldly, pulling back as Kaiden stumbled, his aura flickering.

Kaiden gritted his teeth, clearly weakened but still defiant. He staggered, shooting a hate-filled glare at Ryo. "This isn't over. You and your student… you'll pay for this."

Ryo rolled his eyes, turning away dismissively. "Yeah, yeah, join the line of people vowing revenge. Trust me, it's a long one."

With a final glare, Kaiden disappeared in a swirl of dark energy, leaving Ryo and Issei standing in the clearing.

After the Battle

As the dust settled, Issei let out a breath he didn't realize he'd been holding. "That… was amazing, Ryo. I mean, you didn't even break a sweat!"

Ryo sheathed his sword, a satisfied smirk on his face. "What did I tell you? Stick with me, kid, and you'll be dodging attacks like that in no time. Of course, with less flair, but hey—you can't have everything."

Issei laughed, shaking his head. "I'll try to work on the flair."

They began walking back to the clubhouse, the thrill of the battle still fresh. As they reached the door, Sona and Ophis were waiting, both of them giving Ryo a knowing look.

"So, the mysterious attacker?" Sona asked.

"Taken care of, for now," Ryo replied. "Seems like I've picked up a few enemies along the way. Guess they just can't handle my charm."

Ophis raised an eyebrow. "Charm, or ego?"

Ryo smirked. "Same thing, really."

They all laughed, but Ryo's mind lingered on Kaiden's words. This wasn't the first time an enemy had come after him and his friends, and it wouldn't be the last. But with allies like Issei, Sona, and Ophis by his side, he knew they could face whatever challenges lay ahead.

And if those challenges included more sarcasm-fueled battles and relentless training? Well, Ryo was more than ready for it.
