"Oh thank goodness," The man sighed in relief as he walked to the entrance.
"Wura, where do you think you are going?" Mero asked.
Wura could not believe her eyes, it felt unreal that he was here right now. He was not supposed to be here, he was supposed to be recovering. She doubted if he was even supposed to be standing up and walking at this moment.
"Sir Mero, you came in due time, her majesty wishes to leave to the battlefield in search of his highness, she untied herself and was about to run away," The man reported. It was almost as if he was looking for someone to scold Wura and he knew that Mero was someone Wura listened to.
"Mero, are you alright?" Wura asked, instantly she moved to help him be seated.
"I am fine Wura," Mero replied. He did not resist her assistance, but his voice did sound displeased.
"What are you doing here Mero? You are supposed to be resting," Wura said worried. She could see the bloody bandages wrapped around his torso. Her heart dropped as she saw his bandages, she felt like it was her fault.
"Wura, can you tell me why you are troubling the poor man here?" Mero asked, he ignored her question as she helped him sit on the couch. He did not need her help to move, he had come here himself, however, he knew that she was worried and he would allow her do whatever it was that would distract her for a while.
"No, you are not going to be the one asking me questions here Mero, tell me, what are you doing here? You should be resting instead of moving around. Your wounds were just stitched and you already want to open up the stiches," Wura scolded.
The man had no choice but to nod in response. As much as Mero was his saviour, truly he was not supposed to be moving right now.
Nora could not believe her eyes when she saw Mero walking into his tent. She rubbed her eyes and gasped, it truly was him, she rushed after him, she wanted to know how he was doing, but before she could enter the tent she heard Wura's voice.
A frown landed on her face, she took a few steps back and shook her head. She did not want to see that woman... no, not right now, not ever. Nora walked away, it was the best thing for her to do.
"The physician told me that I could move," Mero said.
"You are lying, I am sure he did not say you could move, you are supposed to be sleeping right now," Wura said pouring him a glass of water. She forced him to drink it with a stern look on her face. The man nodded, Wura was indeed right, the physician would never have told Mero it was alright to move up and down.
Mero reluctantly drank the water, he winced as he did. It was painful to swallow.
"How do you feel Mero?" Wura asked worried.
"I feel fine..." Mero said.
"Are you sure?".
"Yes, what is with that look on your face?" Mero smiled, Wura looked away, she felt guilty, she was guilty.
"Thank you for staying with her... you can leave now, I will handle everything from here," Mero turned to the man.
"Are you sure Sir Mero? His majesty asked that I stay with her majesty, I am afraid I cannot leave or else I will be in grave trouble," The man replied.
"I am here now, he trusts me, I will explain everything to him, you will not be in any trouble," Mero replied.
"Are you sure?".
"Do I need to assure you?".
"Of course not, of course not Sir Mero. I will take my leave now, please excuse me," The man replied.
"Your majesty, please take care," He bowed to Wura before taking his leave hastily. He was relieved, Wura was no longer his problem, the queen was very stubborn and she did not take no for an answer. She almost gave him a a heart attack when she took off.
Wura frowned at him, so now he agreed to leave when a man spoke to him. How annoying.
"Now Wura, it is only you and I here, tell me, what is the matter?" Mero asked.
Wura turned to him, she looked into his eyes and felt herself melting. She felt so overwhelmed, seeing him right in front of her, she could not lie, she could not pretend, he would know if she was.
"Oh Mero, I am so sorry, so very sorry," She broke into tears. She could not help herself, she could not control herself. Her tears came down as if floodgates had been opened.
"Sorry for what Wura?" he asked.
"Stop pretending, you know it if my fault, I should have listened to you. You would not have gotten hurt if I had agreed to go and seek shelter in time, I am so sorry," She cried.
Mero smiled at her, he pulled her in close as she cried on his left shoulder, "You can never harm me Wura, never.".
"Not intentionally," She cried.
"Even if it is intentionally, whatever you do can never hurt me... you know how I feel about you. So please stop crying, there is no point of crying. It was better to be me than it be you," Mero replied.
Wura nodded, she sniffed and pulled away, she did not want to hurt him anymore. She already knew he was probably in so much pain at the moment she did not want to add any more to it.
"I know you Wura, that is not the only thing that is making you cry, tell me what it is." Mero was not asking, he was demanding in his usual soft tone that made all her worries and fears melt. She always felt safe with him, always.
"Oh Mero, it is terrible... Liam saw us kissing and he is devastated, he is so angry and he hates me right now, and Nora... oh Nora, she hates me even more, she hates me so much and I cannot bear it, I honestly feel like dying, she feels so betrayed and I understand her, all I want is for her to forgive me, I just want her to forgive me," Wura said in one breath, tears were dropping from her eyes once more.
Mero took a moment before he gave a reply. He knew just how terrible Wura must have felt in the moment and he did not want her to feel any worse.
"Give her some time... you know that Nora loves you, she adores you and she cares for you deeply. She is truly just hurt in the moment I am sure she will forgive you soon, just give her some time," Mero said.
"Even if she just needed some time, what about Liam? He did not give me a chance to explain, and he keeps on pushing me away," Wura sighed.
"That is probably because of the situation we are in right now. He only just returned, he needs to go and lead his men and ensure all their safety while trying to figure out what Olamide is planning with his ambush," Mero said.
"I am sure as soon as all of this is over he will give you a chance to explain everything. He loves you, and you love him," Mero smiled. The last thing Wura needed at this moment was more sadness added to her emotions, Mero knew this well and that was why he decided to say what she needed to hear not what he felt.
"I am not so sure about that Mero, Liam is furious, he is so furious... especially because... it was you and not someone else... he hates me, he hates you... I should have never let this happen," Wura groaned, she stood up, paced up and down and buried her face in her hands.
"The last thing you need right now is more stress. Just be hopeful Wura, and pray for his safe return and that of the men with him..." Mero said.
"How can you be so calm Mero? How can you ask such an impossible thing from me?!" She turned to him in anger.
"Because I am supposed to be out there with them. If I could, I would Wura. I would gladly lay down my life for every single one of those men out there and it kills me to be here, it kills me to be seated here while they are all out there fighting for not only their lives but all of ours.".
It was then that Wura realized just how selfish she had been, she should have known better than to ask him such a question. She out of everyone knew just how much Mero cared for his kingdom and people. He would give anything to be able to be out there with them instead of here with her.
