Chapter 20 - It beats only for you

DIANA 'S POV

My day at the beach was already going well when some jerk decided it shouldn't. Of course, a private island like this swarms with prominent people who can do anything like getting high at any time of the day. I'm thankful that Scott came in to my rescue. I wouldn't know what to do if he didn't intervened. Gladly, he saved from a possible scandal. I never expected anything from him, honestly. Actually, when I saw him with Christina getting cozy earlier, I suddenly remembered what kind of guy he really is. Deep inside, I realized that whatever connection we started last night, it was nothing sincere.

"Third and last debt.", I elaborated. "What will I have to do this time?", I asked as I put down the beach towel. With Scott being topless, I noticed some girls taking a glimpse of him every now and then. It did made me feel a little annoyed, with all the eyes staring and whispers buzzing. Well, I can't blame them, he really does look appealing with his sculptured body marked with a badass tattoo.

"I'll be in your bungalow at 5:30 pm, that's just before the sunset", Scott smirked a little, and covered me up again with the towel.

"Do I need to prepare anything?", I asked as I pull the towel down on my legs. "It's humid Scott, I don't feel cold at all", I told him.

"No.", Scott moved closer to me, and tucked a lock of my hair behind my ear. "You keep looking at other people", he said as he focuses on my eyes.

'What is he doing?', I wondered. Scott is getting more touchy, and somewhat flirtatious. IN THE PUBLIC EYE. Did I miss something? I smacked his hand away. At this rate, I'm going to get slapped by the girlfriend anytime now. "Haven't you noticed, they keep staring at you. And I don't like getting attention. Plus, your girlfriend is here", I fixed my wet hair and placed it on one side.

Scott chuckled. "Like no one sees you when you came? I almost poke the eyes out of my pack just by staring at you", he laughed as he tilted his head towards his bunch of friends who look like they ravage the gym everyday. "Don't wear something like this ever.. I like your tattoo by the way", he added as his eyes move down on my body.

Me? I look completely normal unlike the other girls here who appeared to be more seductive, sultry, and prettier. I would've worn a rash guard for I never found my body pleasing. But, Kate was so persistent for me to wear a bikini. She have always admired my physique even if I find myself unappealing. "You always choose the nicest words to please women", I applaud his remarks sarcastically. "I had a tattoo to cover my ugly scar". I said as I lower my eyes. He mumbled something but I wasn't able to hear it.

"Hey… Are you okay?", he suddenly asked in a serious tone as he brush his hair back.

"Yes", I lied, fidgeting with the edge of the towel.

"Doesn't look like it", Scott took my hand and clasped it with both of his hands. My heart fluttered at his touch. Why do men like him find it easy to be this close with women? I tried to pull away, but his grip were to too tight get away from. "Diana", he continued, "I am not gifted with mind reading. But, I'm sensitive with everything about you. I can't exactly explain how but.. I would feel it when you're sad, lonely, angry or in danger. Right now, I can tell something is bothering you. If you won't tell me, I won't fully understand."

I gaped at what he said, then I pulled out my hand from him and felt warmth in my ears. Oh boy. This man is dangerous. "Why would you? Well, It's actually a long story", I'm so confused with how he tenderly look. Ever since we met, he kept tingling my heart strings.

"Hey Scott! We're bored and we want to go boating. Will you take us?", I recognized the voice, but not the kindness. I was expecting her to pull my hair, and drag me through the hot sand. Christina stood behind Scott with her arms crossed. This time, a very furious and jealous girlfriend.

Scott twisted his body to look at her. "I'll tell Cory", he answered timidly. I don't think now is the time to provoke her, Scott!!

"Hi Christina.", I greeted her with a smile.

"Oh I didn't noticed you there, Diana", she raised a brow as she acknowledge me, which still I find too kind knowing her for a while. Well, how could she not notice me when I'm just sitting right beside Scott? She's like ready to start a cat fight.

Moving closer as I lean forward to Scott, I whispered an affirmation to make things fair and right, "You're jealous girlfriend is here to pick you up". There's no other ways to do it but raise my white flag.

Surprisingly, Scott turned his head to me, inching his face on mine much closer. "She's not my girl friend. Why do you keep saying that".

I was startled as I flinch. Clearing my throat, I stood up as I look at Christina who is extremely looking irritated right now. "Hmm.. I'll go ahead and leave you two. Christina, Scott", as I nodded to each of them, and grabbed all of my belongings on the chair.

Scott held my hand with a grip that send a thrilling impulse on my skin, and said, "Later?". I just smiled with no definite answer, then left. I'm not sure what made me go high in spirits at that very moment. Was it Scott getting more expressive, or him clearing out that Christina isn't his girlfriend?

LATER AUTHOR'S POV

After trying on a pile of clothes, Scott finally chose what to wear. He wanted to be more casual, and light with a white V-neck loose polo shirt, and a white pair of loose pants. A more relaxed and approachable look so Diana won't turn her away. He fixed his hair in the mirror and stared at his reflection for a while before wetting his lips. 'Why do I feel like, she still didn't fully imprinted on me?', he thought about how difficult it was to get closer to Diana.

He's getting more desperate now to get a hold of her. Feel her under his body. Take in all of her to himself, making it know to the world that he owns her. Trying the best of his self control, Scott admits it is truly quite a struggle taming himself around his Luna. Tonight, he will make sure that things would finally turn the wolf way. Before leaving, he confirmed with the island staff to set up a nice dinner for two at Diana's balcony. He wanted everything special for his Luna.

A little later, Scott headed to Diana's bungalow. In long strides on the stone path, he pulled out a cigarette and put it between his lips. As he was about to light it up, he stopped thinking that Diana might not want to get a whiff of smoke on his body. It would be better if she would bask in his strong Alpha scent that comes with the wolf imprint. Decidedly, Scott put the cigarette back in his cigarette case and went on. He became seemingly eager and anxious on his way to Diana. Nearly there, he paused at the sight of the beautiful silhouette of Diana's overwater bungalow standing before the tropical sunset. 'It's only been a few hours, and I miss her terribly already', he thought.

Scott led himself to the bridge connecting to Diana's bungalow as he watch the ripples of the calm ocean. The soft waves masked the sound of his footsteps as he head straight to the balcony. The dinner set up that he visioned was exactly how he wanted it to be - a table covered with a white cloth, fresh white flowers arranged from the floor cascading up to the table top, and candles in glass holders surrounding the balcony. His gaze shifted to the lady wearing a white off-shoulder dress, sitting on one of the chairs with her legs crossed. Diana was too engaged in the book that she's reading, she failed to hear Scott standing close by. Scott left his mouth open at the most serene view that he have ever seen in his life. Without pulling his eyes away, he pinned his gaze on Diana who looked effortlessly enthralling just with her hair being blown by the wind.

Diana glanced at Scott, and gasped seeing him just standing there. "Isn't this a little over the top, Scott?", Diana asked closing her book and placing it on the table. She find the dinner setting too excessive for a simple get together.

Scott went over Diana and sat on the chair comfortably. "Isn't it you who prepared this? I'm actually impressed", Scott grinned as he make fun of Diana.

"Is that supposed to be funny?", Diana rolled her eyes. Somehow, she wondered if Scott likes her genuinely, or he's just being playful like how she perceived him to be.They both remained silent as the sun started to set. Scott took a glance at Diana whose eyes were glimmering from the sundown.

"Beautiful. I never knew that sunsets could look more beautiful", Scott said as he stare at Diana. "Would you like to dance with me?", offering his hand.

"There's no music, and I don't dance.", Diana whispered shyly at Scott. She rigidly plastered her body on the seat, refusing such a bizarre request.

"I don't dance too. I guess, it's okay to look silly. There's no one here.", Scott said as he look around and then, forcibly grabbed her hand to drag her up.

Diana's heart fluttered again at his touch. She landed on his hard chest, with their hands together. She thought this guy is too flirtatious, that he can make any fragile girl fall for him so easily. They did a promenade dance position as they sway side to side. Scott mumbled a tune that flustered Diana. She chuckled at how silly he can be in front of her and wondered if shows this side of him with others. They both laughed as Scott twisted and turned Diana a couple of times. The balcony was suddenly with warmth coming from the Alpha and his Luna. Scott began to take it slow. He rested Diana's hands around his neck then placed his hands on her waist. He pulled her closer, then hummed the same tune that he played when he first met her. They swayed steadily, following the sounds of the waves.

"What song is that?", Diana immediately recognized the song. Definitely, she heard it somewhere before.

"It's a lullabye my mother used to sing to me", he rested his chin on the top of her head, closing his eyes and feeling the rhythm as they dance slowly.

"So, how many girls fell for this?", Diana asked as she intertwined her fingers behind his neck.

"You're the first.. and the only person I will do this with", Scott said as he opened his eyes and looked down to meet her gaze.

"Your heartbeat is different. It's usually fast, but now it matches mine.", Diana said as she rested her ear to his chest.

Scott swallowed a lump in his throat, as he feel Diana's body against him. "It beats only for you", he said without holding back.

"Does it beat well enough… for a doctor like me?", Diana closed her eyes as she bit her lower lip. She didn't want to ruin the night, but, she thought Scott needs to know. He deserves to know before they go any further.

"Is that a joke?", Scott unknowingly gripped her waist a little hard.

"I'm not the type who make jokes.", Diana looked at Scott as she put her hands down.

Suddenly, silence took over the balcony. All that's left was the gleaming lights from the candles flickering at the soft breeze of the starry night. Scott released Diana, without breaking his gaze at her. Hoping he heard it wrong.

"I was sincere when I offered my friendship. But, I want to be real and honest with you. I will continue to be your friend, even if I am the person you hate the most", Diana breathe deeply and gave out her palm to Scott.

Scott was tormented as her voice echoed in his head. Every time he hears the word 'doctor', old wounds become fresh. He remembered how his mother pleaded the doctor for a cure, how his desperate dad became hopeful knowing he can have a happy life ahead, and most importantly, how that certain doctor brutally killed his father. His eyes darkened as he clench his hands to a fist. 'The moon goddess always play tricks on me', he thought to himself. Without saying a word, he left.
