Chapter 26 - She’s Definitely Not a Human

AUTHOR'S POV

Scott slept all morning in his penthouse. After being told that Diana have left the island on the seaplane, he took the yacht right away and sailed across the sea to go back to the city in no time. Leaving the pack behind, he endured the long sea trip alone making phone calls to his people. On his way back, he made arrangements to find his Luna despite with very little information about her. While waiting for his connections to do their jobs, he had no choice but to go home bent out of shape.

Checking the time on the classic black double-belled alarm clock on his side table, it's 1:00pm already. He then shifted his gaze on the wild red roses on the side. Not too long, all three are about to wither. He laid back down on his bed as he close his eyes tightly with his fist on his forehead. Later, he checked his phone from under the pillow, only to find missed calls and text messages from his siblings, foster parents, Lucas, Christina, and some from work. Above all the people who reached out to him, only one person gained his attention. He sat upright and read the message from his assistant, Jim.

Asst. Jim: Boss, Mission Accomplished. Please see file.

Scott's eyes squinted on the file sent by his assistant. "DW Medical Hospital", he read out loud.

SCOTT'S POV

I wanted to take the rest of the day off as I have been reading Diana's file over and over again. Contemplating if I should see her or not, I found myself sitting in my home staring at her pictures that come with the files Jim sent me. By twilight, I was bombarded by several calls from my father. The old man was too excited to see my face as soon as he heard I'm back. Eventually, I drove fast in my heavily tinted blue sports car reaching the Devlins' Residence shortly.

"Good afternoon, Alpha Scott! Mr. Devlin is inside the library.", the household staff greeted me nervously. I've always looked difficult to other people to the point that I scare them away. I'm not bothered though, at least I keep a safe distance from them. She then opened the door for me, and immediately, I saw the old man drinking several pills in his little corner.

"Do those pills ever work? They've increased from the last time I saw you", I approached the old man and sat on his table.

"Ah! Scott! I've always thought we are from a bloodline of wolves.. not chickens ha ha! Why the hell did you get cold feet? I didn't know marriage scares you", he said, as he prepare a glass of whiskey for me.

"I didn't chickened out. You're bloody children drugged and kidnapped me", I took the glass and gulped a little of the liquor that he poured.

"Sometimes I doubt if you're an Alpha like your parents. Your siblings with Beta bloodline took you out? Now that's something", he offered a toast with his glass of water.

Stanley happens to be my mother's only sibling. When my mother inherited the Alpha bloodline, Stanley became Beta. They separated after they imprinted with their partners, and only reconciled days before her death. After the death of my father, he took me in. "That's how much I trust your family. I take everything you give me", I smiled at the old man who seems to be enjoying teasing me. "About the wedding.. ", I started to open a sensitive chapter that I am more eager to talk about.

"Don't worry about that. Your mother, Priscilla, is taking care of it. We'll have you wedded in a few weeks", the old man said.

"Why are you forcing me to marry that girl?", I curiously asked. Ever since this marriage was brought about, I was never informed about any particular detail especially the side of the bride and the reason behind the fixed marriage. I was just given a wedding date, and a suit. The old man held a long pause, as he stare at his glass of water.

"The truth is.. it is for you and me", he looked outside the window, and sighed audibly. "I needed something from Alva Woodsworth. You see, she holds some medications that keep my tremors go away, and it allows me to walk like how I used to. With one pill, everything is normal.", he said as he shifted his gaze back to me. "I promised to give her prototypes of machines that will enhance the potency of her next drug formulations. Since it will be long term agreement, we decided to seal the deal with a union of marriage", the old man said as he quiveringly cross his legs.

"What does it have to do with me?", I asked as I try to understand what good it gives me to marry a stranger, pretending that I don't know Diana.

"Well, they are humans. It's safe for you from finding your Luna. Isn't that what we're trying to avoid?", Stanley said as he replied in a serious tone.

Humans? But I imprinted on her. She's definitely not a human. I thought. Alpha wolves have very strong sense of smell compared to other bloodlines. We can easily sense humans, wolves, vampires, Nagualli and werewolves. Diana has a very faint scent of wolf in her. Maybe that's the reason why even the pack cannot sense it. Wolves, vampires and werewolves have very strong scent that any wolf can detect. As for the Nagualli, only the strongest bloodlines of wolves can sense their stench.

"Why would you not let me find my Luna? You know that's impossible", I said as I furrowed my brows in confusion.

"Before your mother died, she told me that whatever happens, I should keep you from meeting your Luna because bad things will start to happen", he said as he clasped his hands on his lap. "That's why I decided to marry you off to a human. The marriage will surely keep your circle little. You know, you work then go home to you human wife. That will keep you safe Scott", he continued.

"What kind of bad things?", I asked as I stare on his trembling hands.

"That's all I know. Your carer back then should know more. Remember, Kristia? Unfortunately, the poor girl have stayed hidden ever since the murder of your parents", the old man said with a deep sigh, looking tired.

"I better go then. You must be tired.", I said as I stood up from the table. I went to him, knelt on one knee and held his trembling hand. He patted my head and gave me the gentlest smile that he have always given me.

"Stay for dinner, will you? Your mother and siblings would be happy to see you", Stanley invited. Once more, I couldn't say no.

Things just got more complicated. By the looks of it, it seemed like Alva Woodsworth already cut off the medication supplies for Stanley. He's telling me the truth now because he's desperate. If I marry Diana, Stanley will get his medications. Now the question is, why am I forbidden to meet my Luna?

AUTHOR'S POV

It was almost 7 in the evening when the Devlins finished their family dinner. It was a night of good food and good times. The whole residence suddenly became warm and filled with laughter with the presence of the adopted son who is the talk of the evening. The joke's on Scott for being dragged by the siblings. Then, the tables have turned to Sebastian being stressed with running the business and babysitting Damon, the wild laid-back brother. Damon began apologizing to Scott because of his low productivity in the business. He's terrible with his attendance and too poor in making decisions. While Reina had her head held high being the most independent among the siblings. She did most of the patch works, and kept things in order.

As the night go deeper, Scott called it a night and bid farewell to the Devlins. If there's any place that he'd call home, it is where the Devlins are. Scott checked his watch for the time, and find it still early for a night stroll. He started the car, and rallied the road to a place no one would imagine. Scott didn't have to check the GPS for the location, for he have memorized in his mind, word per word the address of where he wants to go. Next thing he knew, he is entering the driveway going to DW Medical Hospital. He just wanted to see where she works. Scott circled the hospital vicinity a couple of times before stopping at the hospital's main entrance. Not later, he was stunned to see a familiar lady with an incredible captivating scent that lured him in. He didn't imagine that he'll find her here today, and at this time. Scott swallowed a lump in his throat and followed the lady whom his heart has been longing to see.
