Chapter 68 - No Magic Exists

As the battlefield calmed down and colorful elemental attacks fizzled out, a procession of a wolf corpse carried by plant roots followed by a goat caught everyone's attention.

Soon it neared the position of where Datu Storm and Datu Dagat were fighting one of the thunderbeast.

"Leslie? What are you doing?" Elijah asked pinching his nose as the smell of rotting flesh filled the air.

Leslie turned around to see the corpse being followed by the goat she saved.

"Oh? What are you doing here?" Her voice were sweet as if its the most innocent in the world.

'Saw body, followed it.' The goat replied as it touched her hand wanting to be pet.

'My cub!' the wolf exclaimed filled with emotions, mostly sorrow and grief. 'What are you playing' it growled, now filled with more anger.

"I can revive your cub." Leslie calmly said, as if its suppose to be easy.

Storm and Dagat nearby heard what she said and looked at each other with surprise, and doubt. Both of them thinking the same thing.

'She's going to do what?'

'No you can't, no magic exists that can revive the dead, and don't you dare turn my cub into an undead!' the wolf growled, baring its teeth.

"Please, give me a chance." Leslie pleaded. She feels its wrong that the cub of this magnificent and powerful creature be killed, plus according to Alex he killed it on accident and didn't understand its implications.

Leslie then touched the corpse of the cub, roots began to coil around her hands and began pulsing lime green aura? A unique greenish color began flowing into the lifeless body.

She felt the energy within the roots move and began to be pushed into the cub.

For some reason, she could feel the decayed body parts be brought back to functional levels. Muscles, vessels, even the bones began reforming. After that came the organs; lungs, intestines, then the heart.

Leslie could also feel the newly formed bone marrow replace the dead blood cells which the heart promptly pumped.

Then came the most sensitive part, the brain and nerves. Leslie felt the nerves be brought back to a functional state, then she felt something was off, she can't feel any consciousness at all! Even though she could feel the heart pumping which means the brain must be working, if she remembers her biology class and first aid training correctly.

Storm, Dagat, and Elijah stared in awe of the wonderous scene, verdant green is swirling around Leslie and the dead cub, they could see the particles be infused into the corpse.

Leslie, completely unaware of the spectacle she's displaying, lifted her head as an idea came to her, "Elijah! I need you to perform cardioversion!" Leslie called out.

"Cardio- what?!" Elijah called back.

"I need you to jumpstart its brain! Like a defibrillator!" Leslie responded with urgency.

"I don't know how!" Elijah shouted back.

"It's fine! This cub should be able to absorb large amounts of electricity!" Leslie encouraged.

Elijah then started walking towards Leslie, wary of the big thunderbeast. He sat opposite to Leslie.

"Place your hand here and here," Leslie guided Elijah's hands to the cub's nape and chest, "Give it a little shock." she instructed.

Elijah, still hesitant, just channeled a tiny bit of lightning magic. No reaction.

"Give it another one, with more power this time," Leslie urged.

'It's fine, its not human, plus as Leslie said, it should be resistant to lightning.' Elijah convinced himself as he ramped up the power, maybe a little too much.

Leslie felt electricity climb up her arm, but oddly enough it only tickled her, even though it would've knocked a normal person unconscious.

The parent thunderbeast watched with rapt attention, even the other thunderbeasts sensed the convergence of large amounts of magic on this region of the decimated battlefield.

Then the warriors and other datus also took notice, a spectacle of tiny balls of lime-green light swirling unto a single place..

Leslie felt something inside the cub, it seems like it worked! But she suddenly felt dizzy, and the swirling of lime-green light wavered. Elijah noticed, "You're using too much magic, your energy might be depleted soon." He said.

"But I'm so close, I can feel it." Leslie's voice sounded drowsy, and her eyes felt heavy, she wants to close her eyes and rest for a moment but her goal is so close!

The goat who's just watching on the side walked up to Leslie and nuzzled her, 'Take mine' it said.

Without thinking so much, a small root wrapped at the goat's horn, and began pulsing lime-green, but the direction is different, instead of pulsing into the goat, its pulsing away and into the ground.

The light pulsing from the roots connected to Leslie's hand shone brighter, and she felt some strength come back to her.

"Thanks." Leslie pet the goat.
