Chapter 69 - What's That?

Alex, who's resting, felt something and he was jolted awake and sat upright in an instant.

"What's that?" Alex pondered as he saw the lime-green light. But what he saw, that others didn't, was a vein-like structure of the pulsing, flowing light.

He didn't really 'see' it perse but somehow an image formed in his mind that displayed it, and when he followed the end, he saw Leslie and Elijah, but on the other end he saw the pulsing light coming from the big tree at the center of the island.

He could feel a connection to it, like its something he should know but forgot about it.

While Alex was figuring out what he's seeing, Leslie and Elijah are busy trying to revive the cub.

Elijah kept zapping it with lightning magic every now and then as Leslie monitored the regeneration of dead cells. She finally felt its brain gain some activity, no matter how small.

Then a few seconds later the cub coughed and then vomited an alarming amount of dark, almost black, blood along with a few clumps of what looks like flesh.

It slowly opened its eyes as Leslie signaled Elijah to stop his lightning magic.

The cub slowly opened its eyes.

Shock.

Everyone was shocked, to say the least. Leslie really did brought back the cub from death.

"It worked!" Leslie is elated, she actually brought back something to life, even the goat she helped wasn't a rotting corpse.

Thud.

But suddenly something behind Leslie fell on the ground. It was the goat she helped.

Leslie's eyes widen. "I knew it was too good to be true," She heard Elijah muttered under his breath.

"What was too good?" She asked, filled with concern and worry as she nudged the goat but it wouldn't respond. Tears start to fill her eyes, "But he was strong a minute ago!" Leslie cried.

Elijah held her shoulders, "He might've given his life so we could revive this cub."

Tears overflowed Leslie's eyes, "But I was able to revive him without- without..." Leslie sobbed, words caught up in her throat.

Elijah hugged Leslie, trying to comfort her.

As this happened, the tree roots finally receded into the ground and it released the thunderbeast.

The cub slowly stood up and walked towards its mother, which in turn got on its knees and started licking her cub furiously. The cub cuddled to its mother's belly and starting sucking in milk.

"Maybe I can- I can..." Leslie quickly held up her hands, trying to activate her magic once more... but nothing happened. "C'mon! Work! Please work!" She pleaded but she suddenly felt strength leave her body and her vision became blurry and fainted in Elijah's arm.

Elijah, not much surprised that his friend fainted from exhaustion, most likely due to depleting her magic, slowly laid her on the barren ground.

The mother thunderbeast looked up at Leslie, then stood up.

AWWOOOO!!!!

It howled, which caused Dagat and Storm to quickly activate their magic, Dagat actually closed to firing his water javelin, but they also noticed that no clouds formed, and no lightning fell.

AWWOOO!!!!

They heard from the other sides of the battlefield as the clouds hanging in the sky began to clear up. Seeing this, Dagat finally let go of his water javelin as it slowly disappeared into thin air.

Alex who's still observing the lime-green light, was brought back from his trance-like state and looked up to see the cumulonimbus clouds filled with electric charges slowly dissipate.

Wait, electric charges?

Alex pondered, when he looked at the ground again the glowing green light disappeared. "What was that?" he muttered.

When he finally decided to look around, he saw Leslie fell limp in Elijah's arm, he also saw the other two electro fenrirs make their way towards them, and oddly enough the electro fenrir cub he killed is walking around the bigger electro fenrir.

"Did Leslie revived the cub?" Alex pieced the events together, he also saw the goat laying still, he couldn't sense any magic in the goat, and the way the goat is laying incredibly still and- "Did the goat gave his magic to the cub?" he muttered under his breath again.

Alex slowly stood up, his body not as tired as before, then slowly walked towards Elijah and Leslie.

"Alex, don't move around too much," Storm said. Alex only nodded.

Alex bend down, "What happened?" He asked as he thought about the weird glowing lines he vividly saw.

"The goat Leslie saved probably Sacrificed its life so she can bring the cub back to life," Elijah explained as he remembered something from an anime he watched countless times by now. The law of equivalent exchange.
