Chapter 44 - Chapter 44:Eyes in the cave

The next day, Lorentz and Harold were speaking in the chamber. Lorentz asked, "Shall we go to that place today?" Harold replied, "Did you forget? Ken said that after fifteen days, on the sixteenth day, he would return. Why should we go today?"

Lorentz insisted, "We must go ahead of time. If we wait until tomorrow, others may suspect us. Since we often go there, it will raise doubts. So let us go tomorrow with Oberion. Only then will the magical path open." The two agreed.

After some time, Oberion came to meet them. Lorentz and Harold asked, "Why have you come here?" Oberion answered, "Tomorrow your friend will enter. I must create the magical doorway again. You will surely receive my help. But we also have a doubt." Lorentz asked, "What doubt?" Oberion explained, "The reason I created the magical path was because certain beings would come through it to help us. They are the ones who oppose Ratrangasan's cruel laws. His son lives among them, hidden behind the island city. They will help us defeat Ratrangasan. That is why I opened the path. But they did not come that day. They only appear on new moon nights. They are very dangerous."

After this, Oberion left them to rest. Soon, the great minister Bimbisan summoned them. A warrior came and said they must go. Bimbisan told them, "I called you for a reason. Once every fifteen years, the moonlight festival appears in the skies of Amaravati. At that time, the people celebrate it like a grand festival. This time, you must also join. On that day, we will go to a special place for worship. The king wishes you to come with us."

Harold asked, "Another person is with us. Where is he?" Lorentz explained, "He is unwell and resting." Bimbisan replied, "No problem. With rest, he will recover. But you three must surely come."

Only then did they realize that the festival was tomorrow. They became anxious, knowing Ken must arrive by night, or else they would face great danger.

The next day, they hurried with Oberion to the place. Ken did not respond to their calls. Oberion explained, "No matter how much you shout, he cannot hear. This is a wall created by magic. I will open the path. If your friend is inside, he will surely come. Do not worry."

Oberion opened the magical doorway. Ken had already packed everything into boxes and was ready. As soon as the path opened, Oberion brought everyone inside and closed the door. They were astonished. Lorentz and Harold, upset, asked, "Why did you bring everyone here?"

Ken explained everything that had happened. After hearing it, Lorentz and Harold decided, "No one else must enter. Take the families northward, set up tents, and stay safe. Do not bring anyone here. We will return."

Oberion agreed, saying, "I will watch over them. You must go quickly to the palace." The three went to the palace, where Bimbisan, Parantakan, and Rudrasena were waiting.

Bimbisan welcomed them and arranged chariots: one for himself, one for Rudrasena, and one for Parantakan. Warriors accompanied them for protection. They traveled northward through the forest until they reached a huge cave.

The cave was sealed with magical powers. Inside, two enormous red eyes glowed. Through a small opening, some creatures entered. A terrifying sound echoed through the cave, shaking the ground. The sight of those eyes was dreadful.

As the sound rose, some began chanting a hymn, and the noise subsided. Lorentz and Harold asked Bimbisan, "Who is inside?" Bimbisan replied, "We must not speak of this here. Once we return to the palace, I will explain."
