Chapter 11 - Knight Life

Lore sat down and greeted Knight General Koba "Good evening, Sir". Lore stated at all the food and couldn't help but start drooling. Steak, lamb, pork, cheese, bread, vegetables, soup, and stew. There was so much food, it was quite literally a feast. "Go ahead and dig in. This is in your honor afterall." Koba said with a warm smile. Lore gulped and his stomach could be heard rumbling. He stabbed a piece of meat and started chowing down.

"Lore, from tomorrow and onwards you are my Fledgling Knight, and I will see your rise to Squire. If luck should have it I might even see you become an Apprentice. For your first six months here you will train in the first half of the day, in the afternoons you'll study Knight etiquette and history as well as magic. After dinner you will patrol for at least three hours. Then you may return and rest. How does all of this sound so far?" Koba said with a serious expression and stern tone. He wasn't really asking for Lore's opinion he just wanted to gauge the young man's determination.

Lore was scarfing down his food like it was the first meal he had eaten in years. He stopped and looked up at Koba. "In all honesty, Sir, if I wasn't training and becoming as strong as possible, I'd leave. My goal for joining the Knights was to become the best." Lore spoke with a serious tone and a determined fire burned in his eyes. "Hahaha! Well spoken lad. I think I'll grow to like you yet. in all honesty I chose you for the skills znd talents you demonstrated. I'll teach you everything I can and in return you serve me faithfully. Sound like a decent deal?" Koba took a sip of wine while explaining. Lore nodded and swallowed the food in his mouth "How long do you think I'll be here with you, Sir? I'd also like to know about what kind of Knight you are. What type of magic do you use?" Lore had a multitude of questions and felt mo remorse in asking.

"You can remain a fledgling for up to three years but I can see your potential so I don't see it taking it three. I'm sure I can get you to Squire in a year maybe a year and a half. Squire's have a much larger range of duties. Being a Fledgling is like the predatory phase for Squire." Koba stood up from the table and stared at Lore for a moment and continued to speaking "We start bright and early tomorrow. I'll be over seeing your combat training. Get some rest Lad. You'll need it." Koba strolled out of the dining hall.

Lore sat there for a while, and kept eating. He too had a lot on his mind; he pondered what Lord Koba had said to him. Lore was ready, but he was skeptical of the motives of Lord Koba. Lore wasn't the smartest guy in the Kingdom, and so he wasn't sure if he could keep up with Koba's schemes. "Should I seek out another Knight General to train under? Or can I take everything he wants me to do with a grain of salt? Ultimately, I won't end up a puppet." Lore was in deep thought as he strolled down the hallway back towards his room. He entered his room and undressed for bed. How could he himself use Lord Koba, or does he just fall in line? Thoughts like this plagued him. Shaking his head he laid down and swiftly drifted off to sleep.

Lore dreamt that night of beautiful adventures, longing to make a name for himself.

In the morning, a sharp knock was heard on Lore's door. With a start Lore sat up. "Who's there?" Lore yawned as he spoke. Ovi opened the door and stuck his head in." Lord Koba sent me to wake you for you first day, but he says to not grow accustomed to it. Now please hurry along and come eat, Sir. Then it's off to combat training." Ovi close the door behind him after saying this.

Lore pulled his close on and went to the dining hall. A simple pourage sat on the table. Lore grabbed it and ate quickly. He grabbed a glass of water and washed down his breakfast. He stood up, and departed to look for the training hall.

After fifteen minutes of wondering Lore found an open pavilion with weapons and shield hanging from the walls. Lord Koba stood waiting in the center. Looking over his shoulder he said to Lore "Alright let's begin".
