Chapter 17 - Frozen Tundra

Lore, Koba, and Rita sat around the fire as they waited for the food to be ready. As the day came to an end snow could be seen blanketing the ground. The wind soon picked up, snd a snowstorm formed outside the cave. Once the smell of the stew filled the cave, Lore served two bowls to Koba and Rita, and proceeded to serve himself. The group chatted around the fire for a couple of hours before they decided to call it a night, and sleep. Lore threw more wood onto the fire, and set his sleeping sack down.

In the morning, everyone got up, and began preparing to go hunting. Koba had made a plan for them to explore the mountain range systematically.

They would begin at the eastern side of the mountain range, and move westward until they found their target. The fields of snow looked endless when you stared out at them, and if you looked too long everything would look the same. The only distinct landmark was Dragon's Back Mountain which was black as ink.

After everyone ate a quick meal before departing the cave. Trees were strewn about everywhere; snow sat on their leaves like a thick layer of sugar. Everyone was dressed in lined combat gear. The fur inside kept them warm even in the coldest weather. They walked eastbound until they reached the end of the mountain range. They then began ascending the mountain. From there they could survey the land. The snow crunched under each footstep, and the sound of heavy breathing was the only sound around. The group could be seen hiking up the mountain steadily. After two hours they were two-thirds up the mountain. They turned to gather their surroundings. All around them they could see trees and snow. Arctic animals could be seen scattered along the landscape. They were particularly watching for the Mammotooth. Rumors say that they congregate near the western side of the mountain range. Koba's ulterior motive was to expose Lore to a frigid snd dangerous environment. Koba had almost no intention of helping Lore on this trip and if he perished then so be it.

Before Lore had departed he had grabbed a longbow from the armory, and a quiver of twenty arrows. He had a sword on his hip, but while hunting was primarily using his bow. Lore saw a lobe Saberfox walking around the mountain. It hadn't noticed them, and so Lore took aim. A Saberfox was a mutated subspecies of foxes that grew in size and strength. They have large powerful fangs, a muscular lean body, and two fox tails. They had long ears and sharp yellow eyes.

Lore knocked an arrow and enchanted it with a piercing spell. He took aim and loosed the arrow. A powerful force pulled the arrow at an incredible speed. The arrow whizzed through the air and perforated the foxes head and coming out of its eye, dieing instantly. He walked over and collected the meat in a bag. In the cold it wouldn't spoil as quickly. Once Lore was finished they began back on their search. Not much talking was done because none of them were very extroverted. Rita was chatty but Lore, and Koba gave short, and brief answers that led to little conversation.

They had been walking for a few more hours, and they were about a one-third of the way along the mountain range. They had seen many different animals like: Artic Squirrels, Snow Goblins, Tundra Wolves, and occasionally they spotted the rare Snow Demon Lion and Glacial Ogre's. None of them messed with the group because of Koba and Rita, but Lore would pick off some of the smaller creatures and store them for stew later.

At approximately six o'clock at night the sun started to set. Our group began walking to a nearby cave. Inside the cave was a goblin nest that Lore exterminated quickly. Ice elementals are weak to fire so he cast Fire Explosion and eradicated them all swiftly.

Once they tossed all the bodies out of the cave they set up camp, and Lore threw some snow in the pot, melting it and bring it to a boil. He then prepped dinner for everyone. They ate simply, and didn't complain about the quality not being the best. It had been a long day and they just wanted to eat their fill. Lore pulled out his Magic Tome and began studying. As the night grew darker and colder, loud footsteps could be heard making their way to the cave. Lore, Koba, and Rita all sat up and looked at the entrance to the cave. Lore cast an illumination spell and tossed it closer to the entrance. As the light grew closer, a pair of red eyes appeared in the darkness, and then large white lion became more visible. Lore stared dumbfounded at the two creatures that stood before them. A giant white-furred, black-Maned, red eyed Lion. It practically was as tall as the cave entrance which stood around five meters. It's head was just underneath the head of the cave. It was staring right at the group, znd then released a blood curdling roar.

ROAR!!
