The room suddenly got filled with a small but graceful lullaby. The box I was holding had small people dancing together, they wore small ballroom clothes and masks similar to the lady's.
The tune was simple but for some reason it made me feel like I was in a dream, though that could be from being up in the middle of the night.
I looked at the box more and discovered some items, such as a ring made of gold with a small diamond encrusted in it. The next was a dried out flower that looks to be a blue bell, and the last thing was a old photo covered in dust.
I looked up at the woman to see her response to the items, however her face was turned away, almost as if she was hiding from them.
Out of curiosity I gently rubbed the dust off the photo to get a better picture of the story unfolding. I looked to see two people sitting by a window holding each other in their arms.
We both then heard a noice coming from the other side of the door. The lady quickly motioned for me to hide by frantically pointing to a corner of the room that has a painting against it. My legs had never run faster as I was behind the painting before a pin could drop.
A few seconds later we both heard the door unlock and open. I kept my head down and focused on controlling my breathing, making sure it was almost silent. I then heard a man's footsteps walk into the room with a tap of something metallic against the hardwood floor.
"Maria..why must I always find you up here.." Mourned a familiar voice, its saddened tone rang with a hint of frustration.
You could hear the lady's metal cogs turn inside her cheek amids the silence of the room. Maria..is that the lady's name? I thought to myself.
The man then asked for the lady to leave then room. She complied with his request, hesitantly at first. Then it was just me and him, alone in this dark room hardly lit by candle light.
All I heard was the quiet sound of breathing and the occasional creak on the floorboards of the room. By this point I was terrified, my entire body was on fight or flight mode, however I kept myself still as I could...
