Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: Damn the Eyes

"Oh? What's that supposed to mean, huh? You saying that the rest of us don't do anything noteworthy?"

"Well… yes. That is what I am saying." His blunt words took Godspeed aback.

"Really then!? I may not know much about anything in other parts of the land, but soon enough the Saharan Empire will end up dependent on 'us.' Mark my words."

But the Bartender simply waved him off. "Yes yes. Now what else is there to recall? Mm… ah yes. Seeing the internal conflict going on in the Eternal Kingdom, other Kingdoms around, especially the Gauss Kingdom, are also taking an interest in this political issue. I wouldn't be surprised if one of them took their chance and moved in on the unsuspecting land." His words chilled God.

'Damn. If that's true, then a huge ass event might pop up from this. A 'Total War' scenario or something I'd guess. The player's progress in this world could end up inhibited. Hmm. How can I stop this?'

"Can I ask something else?" God asked. The Bartender gave a nod.

"Do you know if Saharan will get involved?" Hearing the question, the normally lazy-looking eyes of the bartender opened up in surprise for a second. Realizing this, he immediately reined himself back in.

"Ah? And why such an inquiry?"

"Uh, I, uhm… just like gathering information?" The unconfident and uncertain answer made Mr. Tender's eyes close into even smaller slits.

"And what if we were? Would you betray your country just for someone of the same race as you?" His suddenly powerful gaze seemed to have some power contained in it, as if it was pushing into God's soul. His green eyes started to glow just a tad bit brighter, the luminescence shining on his nose and cheeks.

'I've gotta play along. His eye's 'innate powers' are messing with my stats. If it weren't for the small blessing I got from Yatan after receiving my class, than he could look right through me and take action.'

'No, no! Of course not! It was just out of plain curiostity that I asked. Really!" The anxious answer did nothing to convince the Bartender though. His eyes kept trying to bore into him, looking for the truth.

A few seconds passed like this: A man staring intensely at another in his eyes, while that stared-at man was sweating profusely and fidgeting. But none of them turned their eyes away from each other.

A scene like this could cause many misunderstandings.

"*Cough*" the fake cough God made was brought by the many looks he was getting in the bar. With the noise, the Bartender finally broke eye contact with him. After a moment the only word he uttered was…

"Blurry."

"W-what?"

"Your 'Soul' is blurry to me."

"?!" His jaw fell wide open at the words. But the shocked expression he was wearing wasn't enough to convey the emotions he was feeling inside.

'What the hell is this guy's ability? I thought it had something to do with staring at your stats like the 1st Red Knight, but… this is something of a totally different caliber!'

"What does that even mean?"

"It means 'Your Soul is blurry to me,' plain and simple." It seemed that he would refuse elaborate on the previous event, no matter how much God pressed.

"Haaah…" Finally, the Bartender sighed. "Although I can't tell your true intentions, and seeing as you're not reported on any accounts I've received, I suppose I will trust you…"

"Oh. Than—"

"… albeit barely. And as to answer your question earlier…" He took one more look at God's eyes. The dark green eyes once again brightened, even stronger than last time.

"Uh---!!!"

[The Confidential Bartender's ever-seeking eyes are staring at you.]

[The ever-truthful eyes have begun digging into your essence.]

[You have resisted.]

'Gosh damn! This guy's really trying to look into me!' Even more sweat began to slide down his back. 'If it weren't for the confidentiality bonus I got from Yatan, I would've been screwed once he obtained my class!'

Mr. Tender finally closed his eyes. "Hmph." He opened them once again, returning them to their normal hue. "No, it does not seem that the Great Saharan Empire will choose to move on this matter. I would be surprised if we did, seeing as it was just an issue from a measly kingdom."

"…Ah! Yeah. Thanks for the answer." He completely forgot what they were even talking about before he met those nosey eyes, so it took him a bit to realize what the man was saying. "Well then. I…. will see you at another time then." He hurriedly rushed out of the bar, not wanting to be under the gaze of those prying eyes any longer.

[The Confidential Bartender's ever-seeking eyes are staring at you.]

'Tch!' Seeing the message pop up once again, he quickened his step to go outside.

Real Life was in uproar. The assassination of the Prince of one of the only Neutral Kingdom in Satisfy? And it being done by a player no less? And even more surprising, it was someone everyone knew. They nicknamed him:

'God Grid.'
