Chapter 43 - Chapter 43: Lightbulb

[Moonshine]

[The quest has been accepted]

'With this Job Quest accepted, I can move forward with the plan.'

[The quest was basically a recap of what Godspeed was talking to Moonshine regarding the elimination of guards and infiltration into the camp, but in a more formal format.]

In a flash, God used his speed to disappear from my view.

'I swear, one of these days, I will make him show me who he really is,' I declared in my mind. There is no way we can just continue like this without me knowing a single fact about this free-spirited man!

But I digress.

I immediately crouch, making sure to keep my torso and above hidden in the grass. Thankfully, these monsters chose a relatively disadvantageous location to spawn in. It made sense now why they have sentries posted at every corner.

I take my time with every step as I head towards the west sentry. I chose this one because it seemed to be the least observant at the time. Every now and then it would just pace in a circle, taking a look forward every minute or so. Or, it would twirl its sword in the air, and throw it into the ground with a grin.

Completely. Utterly. Distracted.

It's obviously detached from the world at the moment, and that provides me the perfect chance to ambush.

Five minutes into my slithering, I arrived left of the monster. I wanted to make sure that when I attacked, the other sentry on post wouldn't detect any signs of a struggle immediately, at least, without it coming over here itself.

"Hooooo...." I breathe out gently as I prepare myself. I cannot let myself to fail at the first step. I need to get inside so I can advance with my Quest. I do not have many Days left until the expiration of this Class Change Quest.

I hone my focus right where I want to strike. I reach out my hand in preparation for my attack.

....

Click!

"...hrmf..."

CHKK!

[You have defeated a High Hobgoblin Warrior Inductee.]

[... ]

And with a single move, the sentry has died. All it took was a click of my tongue, them turning around, and a thrust of my spear.

"So far, so good."

I follow along the wall, still crouched to avoid detection, until I come across the west entrance of the Grounds.

There, on each side of the entrance, stood a Hobgoblin. Right here, is my time of action. What do I do?

'It seems impossible for me to try to take out both of them at the same time. The moment I display any sort of 'intent,' I would jeopardize the quest and get attacked. But even then, I know there must be a way to take them out quickly.'

I try my best to call out my talents as I rub my temples.

'Let's see: What have I been taught, what have I been taught...'

"...

...Lightbulb!" I exclaim a taaaad bit too loudly.

"Hrmf!" Immediately, one of the two Hobgoblins started scanning in its peripheral. I cover my mouth and clamp my hand over my heart, as if that would help deafen and suppress the beating it's making.

"Hooooar..." As if it was about to take another step, It started to lean forward, and slant its eyes, like a predator trying to keep its prey in sight.

Bap. *Grumbling*

...And yet it stopped. Its partner stuck its sword in front of its chest to pause him, and it seems that it... told him to forget about it?

'Wow... these monsters are much more intelligent than I thought at first. they can communicate with each other, and it may be possible that they have some sort of broken language that they can understand each other with.'

'Hmm. If only pets were like this on the other side... I mean, real life! What am I talking about!?' I quickly shook my head to get rid of those ridiculous thoughts. It seems that these past few weeks with that so called 'God' was changing my mindset towards...This... a bit more than I expected, damn it.

'Tch. Damn, I've started cursing again... And there it goes again for Fu---... calm it Soph... don't act out here... just keep your self leveled, and concentrate...'

Once the Hobgoblins stopped their focus on my area, I began setting up my 'lightbulb' idea.

I took out a spear that I was using for training(shorter than what I was using earlier), and laid it right where I was, its head facing towards me. At the end of the handle, I put a stone that I found on the the ground, making sure it balanced well so it wouldn't fall.

I then slowly moved away from it, making sure I didn't cuz much visual disruption in front of the monsters' visages. Once I was far enough away, I set the spear that I used to kill the previous Hobgoblin with on it. Specifically, I put them handle on top of blade. On top of the end of the spear's handle, I put a heavier stone half off the end, making sure that with enough pressure, it would totter off.

Then, once again I began to skulk away from the weapons. Given more distance, I set down a practice sword.

Yes, I know I have a lot of weapons. When you get trained by a High-Ranker(I think) to become a knight, you are required to have/learn proficiency with various weapons. Thankfully, the purchase of these weapons all came from His pocket, and I needed to pay no interest.

'Now that's a deal I would like to offer.'

Now, the plan has been prepared. All that matters is to find the perfect timing and Launch.

And it didn't take much time for that timing to come.

As the earlier restless Hobgoblin was turning his face to the left, I pressed down on the blade of the sword. With that, It caused the blade from the spear in front of it to rise up, dropping the large stone onto the short spear, Finishing the chain reaction with---

Fwoop!!!

A rock being launched into the air.

Thud!

Two Hobgoblins becoming extremely vigilant.

"Grrrr....."

And me reaching for my sword.
