Two hours before Destiny came home, she stopped walking.
She didn't know why.
One second, she had been following Renee down the pavement, listening to her talk about something she'd found funny in the library.
The next, she was standing completely still.
Renee took another few steps before realizing she was alone.
"Destiny?"
Destiny didn't answer.
She stood with one hand hanging loosely at her side, her eyes fixed on nothing.
"Destiny?"
Renee turned around.
"What are you—"
Destiny suddenly pressed her fingers against her temple.
Renee's smile disappeared.
"Are you okay?"
Destiny swallowed.
"Yeah."
Her voice was quiet.
Too quiet.
"I just…"
She rubbed her temple.
"I have a headache."
"Do you want to sit down?"
"No."
She started walking again.
Renee followed.
"You sure?"
"Yeah."
A few seconds passed.
Then Destiny stopped again.
This time, her breathing changed.
She heard something.
Not a sound from the street.
Not a car.
Not a person.
