CHAPTER FIFTY
THIS IS ALL BECAUSE OF HIM
By the time Destiny and Renee reached the house, neither of them had much left to say.
The walk had been quiet.
Not peaceful.
Quiet in the way a room became quiet after somebody had said something that could not be taken back.
Destiny's head still hurt.
Not as badly as it had in the forest, but there was a dull pressure sitting behind her eyes, refusing to leave. Every now and then, she would press two fingers against her temple and close her eyes for a second.
Renee noticed every time.
She didn't mention it.
She simply stayed close.
Their shoulders occasionally brushed as they walked.
Destiny's pace was slower than usual, and Renee unconsciously matched it.
Neither of them spoke about what had happened.
Not the blood.
Not the pain from the sudden migraine
So they walked.
When Destiny's house finally came into view, she stopped briefly at the gate.
The house looked normal.
The curtains were open.
The front porch was empty.
