Chapter 21: The Yellow Flash vs. the Lightning Duo

Thunder roared across the northern frontier.

Smoke and fire covered the valleys as thousands of Leaf and Cloud shinobi fought across the mountains.

Kunai clashed.

Ninjutsu lit the battlefield.

The Third Great Ninja War had reached another turning point.

At Konoha's command post, Jiraiya watched the battle unfold from a high ridge.

Reports arrived one after another.

"The left flank is holding."

"The center is under heavy pressure."

"The right flank is collapsing!"

Jiraiya pointed toward the center of the battlefield.

"Commit the reserve companies."

A jonin hesitated.

"What about Captain Minato?"

Jiraiya smiled.

"He's already moving."

A streak of yellow flashed across the battlefield.

One moment, Minato stood beside Team Minato.

The next…

He was gone.

Leaf shinobi looked up.

"The Yellow Flash!"

Cloud shinobi immediately reacted.

"It's him!"

Panic spread through the enemy ranks.

Several jonin instinctively threw marked kunai away, refusing to let Minato use them.

Standing atop a rocky cliff, A watched calmly.

"So…"

"You're finally here."

Another yellow flash appeared.

Minato stood several meters away.

Neither man spoke.

The pressure radiating from both shinobi silenced the battlefield around them.

Even nearby jonin withdrew.

Everyone understood…

This was a battle beyond their level.

Without warning—

A disappeared.

Lightning exploded beneath his feet.

His fist shot toward Minato's head.

Minato vanished.

The punch shattered the mountainside.

Before A could recover—

A Rasengan formed in Minato's hand.

A twisted at the last instant.

The spiraling sphere struck his shoulder instead of his back.

The impact launched him through several massive boulders.

Cloud shinobi stared in disbelief.

"He actually hit Lord A…"

Dust settled.

A slowly stood.

His Lightning Release Armor flickered.

Then…

He smiled.

"Excellent."

Nearby, Killer B balanced Samehada-sized blades across his shoulders before spinning them effortlessly.

"So that's the Flash, moving quick and bright,

Let's see if he can last all night!

Fool, ya fool!"

He looked toward the Leaf forces.

"Who's next?"

Meanwhile…

Obito, Kakashi, and Rin led a platoon of Leaf shinobi toward the collapsing eastern flank.

A Leaf jonin pointed ahead.

"Cloud elite squad!"

Twenty veteran Kumogakure shinobi blocked the mountain pass.

Leading them were three elite jonin.

One specialized in Lightning Release.

Another wielded twin axes.

The last was a sensor ninja.

Obito frowned.

"They're coordinating every movement."

Kakashi nodded.

"If we don't stop them…"

"They'll surround our forces."

The enemy commander pointed his blade forward.

"Kill them."

The mountain pass erupted into chaos.

Lightning bolts tore through the air.

Earth exploded beneath their feet.

Rin moved constantly through the battlefield, healing wounded Leaf shinobi while avoiding enemy attacks.

A Cloud jonin suddenly appeared behind her.

Before he could strike—

Obito intercepted him.

Steel clashed.

"You'll have to go through me."

The jonin laughed.

"So be it."

The enemy attacked relentlessly.

Unlike previous opponents, these jonin had fought together for years.

Every attack complemented another.

Every weakness was covered.

Even Obito found himself being pushed back.

"They're good…"

Kakashi appeared beside him.

"Then let's be better."

The two charged together.

Obito's Sharingan tracked every enemy movement.

His three tomoe spun rapidly.

"Kakashi!"

"Right side!"

Kakashi instantly adjusted.

A Lightning Release attack narrowly missed him.

Without Obito's warning…

It would have struck directly.

The enemy sensor ninja stepped backward.

"Those eyes…"

"He predicts everything."

The axe-wielding jonin growled.

"Then blind him."

All three elite jonin attacked Obito simultaneously.

Across the battlefield…

A and Minato continued exchanging blows.

A's speed increased with every attack.

Minato answered each strike with Flying Thunder God.

Neither could land a decisive hit.

Leaf and Cloud shinobi could barely follow their movements.

"They're too fast…"

One Cloud jonin whispered.

Killer B watched from a nearby cliff.

He twirled a sword around one finger.

"Brother's smiling, what a rare sight,

Guess this Flash can really fight!

Fool, ya fool!"

Instead of joining the duel, B looked toward another section of the battlefield.

Leaf reinforcements were moving toward Minato.

"Can't let that slide."

He jumped from the cliff.

Jiraiya's eyes widened.

"Killer B is moving!"

An officer asked,

"Toward Captain Minato?"

Jiraiya shook his head.

"No…"

He looked toward Team Minato's position.

"…toward Obito's unit."

Obito forced back another elite jonin with a Great Fireball.

The flames briefly separated the battlefield.

He took a deep breath.

Something felt wrong.

His Sharingan scanned the mountain ridge.

Then…

His eyes widened.

An enormous chakra signature.

Unlike anything he had felt since returning to the past.

He whispered quietly.

"…He's here."

Far above the battlefield…

Killer B landed on a cliff overlooking the battle.

Eight swords rested across his back.

He grinned.

"Let's see who's got the fire and flair,

Hope you kids came well prepared!

Fool, ya fool!"

Obito stared at him.

Memories from the Fourth Great Ninja War flooded his mind.

He knew exactly how terrifying the Eight-Tails' jinchūriki truly was.

For the first time since his second chance began…

Obito felt genuine fear.

The battle for the northern front had only just begun.
